Nommo
This article examines the concept of Nommo, which has African roots, within the film Child of Resistance, by filmmaker Haile Gerima of African descent in 1972, emphasising its significance for the self-naming and self-definition of Africana women. It explains the rationale behind analysing Gerima's work from an African womanist perspective by investigating the insights that male filmmakers provide on African women's cinematic representation. By examining particular monologues, scenes, and narrative elements, this article underscores how Nommo connects with the film's representation of African-descent women's self-naming and self-definition. It illustrates the empowerment and resistance within the character's narrative and aims to enhance the conversation about the complexities surrounding gender and the representation of Africana women in cinema.

The Oppositional Gaze Challenging Gender, Race and Class Boundaries
While previous studies on gaze have been influential in elucidating power dynamics, Gloria Jean Watkins' (bell hooks') concept of the oppositional gaze uniquely addresses the intersection of gender, race, and class in the representation of Black women. This study offers a novel application of hooks' theory to literary analysis by examining Jamaica Kincaid's novel Lucy-a work that has yet to be fully explored through this framework. By investigating Lucy's oppositional gaze, this study reveals how Kincaid's protagonist actively resists dominant ideologies, redefines her identity, and critiques racialised and gendered power structures. This research contributes to feminist, postcolonial, and literary studies by demonstrating how Lucy's perspective challenges binary oppositions and provides a powerful lens for understanding marginalised experiences. Ultimately, this study expands the application of the oppositional gaze beyond visual media, highlighting its relevance in literature and its potential to reshape discussions on representation, agency, and empowerment.

Authorial Stance in Black and Blue Novel by Anna Quindlin
The present study is concerned with the writer's ideologies towards violence against women. The study will focus on analyzing an English novel about violence against women so as to see to what extent writers are being affected and influenced by their genders. It also focuses on showing to what extent writer's ideologies are reflected in their works. Gender influence social groups ideologies; therefore, when a writer discusses an issue that concerns the other gender, they will be either subjective or objective depending on the degree of influence, i.e., gender has influenced their thoughts as well as behaviours. A single fact may be presented differently by different writers depending on the range of affectedness by ideologies. The study aims to uncover and reveal the hidden gender-based ideologies, by analyzing the discursive structure of a novel based on Van Dijk's model (2000) of ideology and racism. The selected novel is based on discussing violence against women. The study will later on reveal what the real writer's gender-based ideologies is. Is the writer feminist or anti-feminist? Is he prejudiced? Is he biased?.
