Exploring How Quality Assurance Manages Prison Students ' Access to Distance E-Learning Education
This study explores the role of quality assurance in managing access to distance e-learning education for prison students. Amidst the rapid expansion of online educational opportunities, ensuring equitable access and high-quality learning environments for prison learners presents unique challenges. Quality assurance mechanisms are crucial in maintaining educational standards and fostering an inclusive, supportive learning atmosphere. The research employs a qualitative methodology, analyzing data from literature and interviewees with prison students that study through distance e-learning programs. Findings indicate that robust quality assurance frameworks enhance the educational experiences and outcomes for prison students by ensuring that course content, instructional methods, and resource allocation are tailored to meet their advanced learning needs. The study highlights the importance of continuous improvement processes, including regular feedback loops and adaptive learning strategies, to accommodate the diverse abilities of prison students. Additionally, the quality assurance in mitigating the risk of educational neglect in remote prison learning setting is emphasised. Effective management through quality assurance not only supports prison students in realizing their potential but also sets a standard for their academic excellence in distance education.
The Influence of the Science Teaching Methods Course and the Practicum Course on Self-Efficacy of Pre-Service Science Teachers of Middle and High Schools in the State of Kuwait
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to examine self-efficacy among students who took Science Teaching Methods course and Teaching Practicum course in the College of Education at Kuwait University. Method: A quasi-experimental design was used in the study. The Science Teaching Efficacy Belief scale (Form B) was administered to pre-service science teachers of middle and high school (n=81), who were enrolled in practical teaching course and those enrolled in the science teaching methods. Results: The results showed that pre-service science teachers in the practicum course had no significant change in sense of self efficacy neither on the Personal Science Teaching Efficacy (PSTE) nor the Science Teaching Outcome Expectancy (STOE) scales. However, there was a high increase in PSTE and STOE scores by students who were enrolled in science teaching methods course which indicated reaching higher sense of self-efficacy. Conclusion: The study recommends that future research should be conducted to include different individuals in different contexts in the schools. This outcome will further inform researchers of related self-efficacy issues in Kuwait.
A Content Analysis of the Pronunciation and Spelling Activities in Action Pack Ten
Pronunciation and spelling are crucial skills for any intelligible form of spoken or written communication. Both are important signs (among others) according to which the quality of any piece of speech or writing is determined. However, EFL learners seldom engage in real-life communications without facing problems in these basic skills. This content analysis aims at finding out whether or not pronunciation and spelling are adequately covered in the Student Book and Activity Book, the extent to which spelling and pronunciation activities are emphasized, and the focus of these activities in Action Pack 10. In order to achieve the purposes of the study, a mixed qualitative/quantitative approach was followed, four content analysis sheets were developed, and frequencies and percentages were used, and a detailed description of the pronunciation and spelling activities were presented. The results revealed that Action Pack 10 includes both of pronunciation and spelling activities. The results, also, showed that a separate section with one activity in each unit for teaching pronunciation is included, and that each activity focuses on meeting one pronunciation outcome (as prescribed in the Teacher's Book of Action Pack 10). Moreover, no particular section for teaching spelling was found, but spelling is explicitly integrated in some of the writing activities. Only 17.5% of the writing activities, included in the Student's Book and Activity Book, have an explicit focus on spelling, as prescribed in the Teacher's Book of Action Pack 10. Implications were made for more spelling activities encompassing various strategies for improving student spelling and more contextualized pronunciation activities to better help students achieve pronunciation-related outcomes.
المدخل إلى التدريس
إن التوصل لمفهوم محكم أو قاطع للتدريس أمر صعب المنال، إذ أن مفهوم التدريس يتطور تبعا لتطور فلسفة المجتمع وأهدافه وتطور مفهوم التربية وأهدافها وتطور الأدب التربوي والنفسي من خلال الكتابات والأبحاث التربوية والنفسية. بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإن التدريس عملية ذاتية تظهر فيها شخصية المعلم وتلعب فيها ذاتيته دورا عظيما، ومع ذلك فقد وجد علم يعتني به له أهدافه العامة والخاصة وأسسه ومبادئه ونظرياته، التي تساعد في كيفية إعداد المعلم لمهنة التدريس، وأهم المبادئ التي تقوم عليها هذه المهنة وكيفية تطبيقها، وأهميتها في إعداد جيل يعمل من أجل تسليم هذه المهمة إلى الجيل الآخر الذي يليه، من هنا فإن الاهتمام بأساليب ومهارات التدريس من أجل إعداد المعلم الكفء يجب أن يعالج بموضوعية وبصدق وبأمانة، وأن تعطى المعلومات الحقيقية والحيوية، وأن تغذى بالخبرات الفعلية والتطبيقات العملية، وكذلك يجب إضافة خلاصة تجارب المعلمين والقائمين بأمور التدريس لما هو موجود أمامهم في المراجع العامة والكتب الكثيرة التي تبحث في هذا الموضوع. من هذا المنطلق يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي تهدف المؤلفة من خلاله تقديم شيء جديد ومفيد لعشاق هذه المهنة. والكتاب موجه إلى المعلمين وإلى طلاب مؤسسات إعداد المعلمين للاستفادة مما جاء فيه لتحقيق خير هذه الأجيال. وهذه لمحة حول أهم النقاط التي تم بحثها في هذه الدراسة.
