Potential Therapeutic Effect of Resveratrol on Aspirin Induced Acute Gastric Ulcer in Rats
2018
This study aimed to evaluate the potential therapeutic effect of Resveratrol in treating aspirin-induced acute gastric ulcers in male albino rats, through physiological, biochemical, and histopathological assessments. A total of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: a normal control, an aspirin-induced ulcer group (200 mg/kg body weight), and two groups treated orally with Resveratrol at doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg daily. At the end of the experiment, gastric tissue was examined, and ulcer length, gastric juice volume, pH, and total acidity were measured, in addition to oxidative and inflammatory markers. Results revealed that the aspirin group exhibited significant increases in ulcer length and gastric secretion volume with a marked decrease in gastric pH, while Resveratrol administration notably ameliorated all ulcerative parameters. Treated rats showed shortened ulcer length, reduced secretion, elevated pH, and improved antioxidant and anti-inflammatory profiles. Histopathological examination confirmed mucosal restoration and reduced hemorrhagic and necrotic areas. The higher dose (50 mg/kg) demonstrated superior protective and healing effects compared to the lower one. The study concluded that Resveratrol exerts strong protective and curative effects against aspirin-induced gastric ulcers, primarily due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to promote mucosal regeneration. Further studies were recommended to confirm its potential as a natural adjunct therapy for NSAID-induced gastric injury. Abstract Written by Dar AlMandumh, 2025, Using AI.

Effect of Probiotic Camel Milk-Enriched with Carica Papaya Oil or Extract against Indomethacin-Induced Gastric Mucosal Toxicity in Rats
2022
Camel milk was known for its unique value which makes it a valuable source in the field of medicine as antidiabetic, wound healing, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective and antiulcer agents. Therefore, the current study was performed to investigate the potential effect of probiotic camel milk-enriched with papaya oil or extract as antioxidant and antiulcer agents on indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers in rats. Thirty-five male albino rats (190- 200g), were fed on a standard diet and divided into seven groups (5 rats each). Rats of the first group received distilled water and served as normal control. While the other six groups were induced gastric ulceration by a single oral dose of indomethacin (30 mg/kg BW), then these groups were classified into ulcer control, PCM (probiotic camel milk 5 ml/kg BW), PO (papaya oil 5 ml/kg BW), PE (papaya extract 5 ml/kg BW) and their mixture (PCM plus PO), and (PCM plus PE) in 1:1 (v/v) ratio (PCM: PO/or PE). At the end of the study (5 weeks), blood and stomach samples were collected for biochemical analysis. The results revealed that administration of probiotic camel milk significantly (P<0.05) increased gastric pH, the curative ratio of gastric ulcer length, Cyto P450, PGE2 relative to indomethacin-induced ulcer rats. The most effective treated groups were probiotic camel milk incorporated with papaya oil or followed by papaya oil which significantly (P<0.05) decreased gastric ulcer length, the volume of gastric juice, Cox-2 compared with the ulcer group. Activities of glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase in the probiotic camel milk enriched with papaya oil or extract groups were increased significantly compared to the ulcer group (P<0.05). The current study concluded that probiotic camel milk enriched with papaya oil or extract treatment may play a protective role against indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers in rats, which may be due to the enhanced antioxidant enzymes.

قرحة المعدة
2024
The present study was designed to investigate the curative effect of date palm and date biscuits on gastric ulcer. The effect of date and date biscuits on the nutritional and gastric ulcer healthy status. Thirty adult albino male rats Sprague -Dawley strain weighting 180 ±10 g were classified into five groups,(6 rats each) , (-ve) group and four rat groups which administered orally of Piroxicam drug (30 mg/kg) After 24 h fasting as induced-gastric ulcer and reclassified into (+ve) group ,treated with 20 mg/kg b.w of Omeprazole drug , treated with 200 gm date powder , treated with 200 gm of date powder biscuit groups. The study was assigned for 60 days. The results revealed that, the control (+ve) group showed a significant decrease in final weight, weight gain, feed efficiency ratio (FER), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxides (GSH), (GSHR), (GSH-PX), (GSH-ST) compared with control (-ve) group.but showed significant increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) , hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), C-Reactive Protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (ILK) and prostaglandin (PEG2) compared with (- ve) group. The date powder, and date powder biscuit groups showed a significant increase in final , weight gain. food intake, (FER), organ stomach, (CAT), (SOD), (GSH), (GSH-R), (GSHPX), (GSH-ST),but showed significant decrease in (MDA), (H2O2), (CRP), (ILK), (PEG2) at p<0.001 compared with (+ve) group. The histopathological results showed that treated groups it became nearly normal tissues compared to (+ve) group. It can be recommending that the consumption of date powder and date powder biscuit can lower gastric ulcer with increase of antioxidant enzymes

Potential Protective Effects of Lemon Verbena \Aloysia Citriodora\ Leaves against Gastric Ulcer in Rats
2022
Lemon verbena (Aloysia citriodora) is an herb characterized by containing a large amount of phenols such as flavonoids and phenylpropanoids, which have been found to play an effective role in controlling digestive disorders. So that, this study sought to evaluate the gastroprotective properties of lemon verbena against stomach ulcers in rats induced by ethanol. Randomly , thirty male Albino rats were divided into five groups (6/each). Rats were injected with ethanol to induce stomach ulcers. The antiulcer activity of lemon verbena leaves ethanol extract (LVEE) were estimated at different doses (50 and 100 mg/kg body weight) and compared with omeprazole (OMZ) which used as a standard drug at dose (40mg/kg body weight). To find out the possible mechanisms of action, data of the present study estimated the levels of oxidative stress parameters. Gastric juice volume, pH, and other stomach ulcer examinations as well as histological examination of gastric ulcers were done. Rats that were given ethanol only (positive group) showed significant elevations in ulcer score, ulcer index (UI) and decreases antioxidant enzymes. Moreover, the levels of malonaldehyde (MDA) remarkably increased in the positive group compared to the negative group. The pretreatment of rats with LVEE at different dose levels not only improved stomach ulcer measurements and the activities of antioxidants but also significantly reduced the concentration of MDA in stomach tissues. These results confirm that LVEE has gastroprotective properties by stimulating antioxidant enzymes. Finally, lemon verbena leaves powder has been used in bread flour with the goal of producing a fortified bread that can be recommended for stomach ulcer patients.

Background: Alhagi maurorum is a medicinal plant found in different regions of the world including the eastern part of Libya. Aim: It is widely used in liver diseases with its hepatoprotective activity but its effect as an anti-ulcerogenic is not known locally. This study was undertaken to investigate the anti-ulcer effect the Alhagi maurorum has. Methods: A camel thorn extract (CTE) was prepared and administered to a group of mice for five days before they received ethanol to induce gastric ulcers. Comparable groups were a negative control group of mice that received normal saline and a positive control group of mice that received ethanol. The histopathological study of all stomachs was performed and graded according to the lesion scoring system. Result: Statistically, the mice that received CTE showed a significant improvement in the lesion score as compared to the animals that received ethanol. Conclusion: We conclude the Alhagi maurorum has gastro protective activity against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers.
