Structural Study and Evaluation of Previous Restoration Work of Mohammad 'Ali Pasha Mosque at the Citadel in Cairo
Mohammad 'Ali Pasha Mosque at the Citadel in Cairo is considered one of the main landmarks in Egypt. It majestically stands at a northwestern bend of the Citadel and it is visible from numerous locations in Cairo. It has become the symbol of the Citadel, to the point that its name is given to the whole complex in the colloquial Egyptian parlance . This paper studies analytically the static and dynamic structural behavior of this great mosque using computer numerical modeling techniques, to reach the main reasons for past cracking and failures in its domed-roof and other structural elements, which occurred by the end of 19th Century. A number of 3D-models are analyzed to study the mosque, in both original and after restoration conditions, under static (i.e. dead and live loads) and dynamic (i.e. Eigenvector modal analysis, response-spectrum and time-history) cases of loading. Besides, structural evaluation of major restoration project, in 1930s, is conducted to determine the current structural safety status of the mosque.

العمارة الدفاعية الإسلامية في العصر الأيوبي : أسوار صلاح الدين حول القاهرة والفسطاط /
هذا الكتاب يعد كتاب العمارة الإسلامية في مصر تأليف الأستاذ كريزويل مرجعا أساسيا للباحثين في العمارة الإسلامية خاصة في مصر، ونظرا لأهميته فقد قام علماء أجلاء بترجمة فصول منه إلى العربية، منهم د. عبدالرحمن فهمي الذي ترجم جزءا كبيرا من الفصل الثاني من الجزء الأول، ونشره تحت عنوان «قصة تأسيس القاهرة»، كما قام د. جمال محمد محرز بترجمة ما يتعلق بتاريخ وعمارة قلعة الجبل الفصل الأول والفصل الثاني بالجزء الثاني من الكتاب، ونشر تحت عنوان وصف قلعة الجبل». ثم نشر د. عبد الوهاب علوب بعد ذلك ترجمة الجزء الأول من الكتاب كاملا. وفي هذا الكتيب أقدم ترجمة للفصل الثالث بالجزء الثاني من هذا الكتاب، والذي جاء به تحت عنوان : أسوار صلاح الدين، وقصدت بهذا الجهد المتواضع أن أتم ترجمة ما جاء بالجزء الثاني من الكتاب المذكور عن العمارة الحربية.

يتناول الكتاب تاريخ ووصف لمسجد محمد علي باشا الذي شرع في إنشاءه سنة 1246 هـ / 1830 م، ووضع أساسه على الصخر، واختيرت الحجارة الضخمة لبناؤه، وكانت تربط بكانات من الحديد يسبك حول أطرافها بالرصاص، واستمر العمل به حتى وفاة محمد علي باشا سنة 1265هـ / 1848 م، وذلك بمناسبة إتمام إصلاحه في عصر الملك فاروق الأول وهو يتناول تاريخ المسجد وموقعه وتصميمه ومهندس الجامع ووصف للمسجد والخلل الذي حدث به وأسبابه.
