MP didn't dishonour Canada's war dead
Jacques de Winter's recent letter decrying NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice's statements about the politics of the First World War is an ugly look into the mentality of historical distortion. Boulerice was correct: unlike the Second World War, the \"Great War\" wasn't a justifiable war against genocidal Nazis.
New Democrat MP slighted our war heroes
On the 96th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney demanded an apology from [Alexandre Boulerice]'s blog in 2007. Boulerice shot back with: \"He is the minister who is making the largest cuts in support programs for disabled veterans.\"
Canada Post: the fight is far from over
\"With this government's marked trend toward privatization, I would like to know if this is also their plan for Canada Post. Canadians are adamant about continuing to receive their mail at home,\" said NDP Labour critic Alexandre Boulerice (Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie), who was joined by Susan Dixon - the woman behind the petition to keep home mail delivery, which now has 200,000 signatures.
NDP student stance a sign of maturity
So it appears with the official Opposition in Ottawa, an NDP caucus dotted with rookies, students and accidental MPs drawn from a demographic that sparked post-election jokes about the daycare centre in the Commons. Alexandre Boulerice, the high-profile MP from Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie has joined the marchers, as has 23-year-old Eve Peclet, the MP from La Pointe-de-l'Ile. Pictures of an arrest of an NDP MP - see last week's arrest of Quebec Solidaire MNA Amir Khadir - would have raised questions outside Quebec about the maturity of an Opposition caucus.
NDP stance on students a display of maturity
The party would have been tarred by their opponents for aligning themselves with protests that now include smoke bombs in the Metro, vandalism of ministers' offices, and threats to disrupt the Montreal Formula One Grand Prix this weekend and deprive the city of tourism revenue during festival season.
Senator Mike Duffy back to claiming Ottawa living expenses
The Senate administration confirms [Mike Duffy]'s expenses are within the rules after he collected the necessary documents to prove he's a resident of Prince Edward Island, like a health card, driver's license and paperwork from the Canada Revenue Agency. In an email to CBC News, Duffy said: \"I filed my claims as the Senate rules provide, as was approved by Senate administration, and as Judge Vaillancourt agreed was applicable.\" In April, that judge found Duffy not guilty of 31 charges of fraud and breach of trust. Senator Mike Duffy has gone back to filing for his living expenses, nearly 1700 dollars in expenses between March and June, for the same kinds of claims that landed Duffy at the centre of the Senate scandal back in 2013 and for which he was fully cleared. Katie Simpson has the story.
