Social skins of the head : body beliefs and ritual in ancient Mesoamerica and the Andes
\"The meanings of ritualized head treatments among ancient Mesoamerican and Andean peoples is the subject of this book, the first overarching coverage of an important subject. Heads are sources of power that protect, impersonate, emulate sacred forces, distinguish, or acquire identity within the native world. The essays in this book examine these themes in a wide array of indigenous head treatments, including facial cosmetics and hair arrangements, permanent cranial vault and facial modifications, dental decorations, posthumous head processing, and head hunting. They offer new insights into native understandings of beauty, power, age, gender, and ethnicity. The contributors are experts from such diverse fields as skeletal biology, archaeology, aesthetics, forensics, taphonomy, and art history\"-- Provided by publisher.
Novel Approach For Personal Identification Using Dorsal Knuckle Crease Patterns: A Pilot Study
Despite the availability of various identification methods, such as fingerprints, ridge density, palm prints, and vein patterns, forensic identification remains a complex challenge. While substantial research has been conducted on the palmar surface of the hand, there has been limited focus on the dorsal surface for identification purposes. The dorsal surface, like fingerprints, contains minutiae and skin crease patterns believed to be permanent. The crease patterns present on the dorsal side of the proximal interphalangeal joints are known as knuckle crease patterns. This research aimed to classify and examine the characteristics of dorsal finger knuckle crease patterns and to explore their potential for determining sex. A total of 800 finger image samples were collected from 80 subjects. The knuckle crease patterns were categorised into six distinct types: Horizontal, Vertical, Oblique, Semi-lunar, Mixed, and Cross patterns. Additionally, the study investigated sex determination based on the distance between creases, revealing that males tend to have a greater average distance between ridges than females. This difference was statistically confirmed using a t-test with a 95% confidence level. The findings indicate that finger knuckle crease patterns are unique, individual, and classifiable, making them a valuable tool for identification and potentially aiding forensic investigations.
Análisis de la Composición Corporal y Condición Física en una Población de Estudiantes con Síndrome de Down: un Estudio de Tendencia (10 Años) en dos Periodos y Grupo de Sujetos Distintos
The aim of this study was to analyze the body composition and physical fitness of a population of students with Down syndrome at two time points (in 2009 and 2019) and different subject groups. It is a trend study that examines the relationship between body composition, physical fitness, and age in a population divided into two groups based on a 10-year interval between evaluations. The results indicate a positive correlation of hip circumference in both groups of women, albeit weaker in 2019 compared to 2009. Men show weaker relationships in 2019 compared to 2009. Physical fitness in women exhibits a somewhat unpredictable trend, with maximum VO2 showing a negative relationship only in 2019, unlike dynamometry, where the positive relationship is observed only in the 2009 group. Men show that flexibility and abdominal capacity have positive relationships in the 2009 group, contrasting with maximum VO2 where the negative relationship is present in 2019. In conclusion, body composition exhibits somewhat unpredictable behavior over time, while physical fitness shows a more homogeneous trend.

There are four kind of strokes are officially know: freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke. The highly repetitive motion that occurs in the normal swimming stroke can predispose elite swimmers to musculoskeletal injuries of the upper limb, knee, and spine. In swimming upper body injurie is oftenly happened. Shoulder injuries are the most common injuries, with prevalence between 40% and 91%. Studies in the literature show that injuries can be experienced in swimming sports, and there are also methods of protection from these injuries. In this study, to explain where and how injuries occur in swimming and how they can be protected from these injuries.
