It is known that several factors can have a positive effect on the artistic development of pupils, but it has not yet been investigated whether such development can also be positively influenced by the contemporary visual arts. Mainly because it is multi-layered and complex to understand, the question here is whether teachers can incorporate contemporary visual arts to the same degree and extent as other visual arts content to exert a positive influence on the development of artistic skills. Therefore, in this paper we present the results of a pedagogical experiment conducted to examine the effects of incorporating contemporary artistic practices on the development of artistic creativity skills in eighth graders (N = 121). Through the study, we were able to demonstrate that the inclusion of contemporary art practices in art lessons does have a positive impact on the development of art design skills among eighth graders.

Application of artistic design innovation in promoting rural cultural brand construction
2024
To conduct an in-depth analysis of global users’ emotional and aesthetic preferences for rural cultural brands and to accurately assess the varying popularity of different design elements across countries, this study utilizes the EmoRuralSim simulator in combination with artificial intelligence and text mining techniques. The study creates a virtual environment for emotion and language simulation and constructs a Design, Emotion, Region (DER) relational model. By building a virtual user group that encompasses the languages and cultures of 15 countries, and employing an intelligent recommendation system, the study achieves precise matching of regional preferences with product styles, offering personalized design recommendations. The findings indicate that Brazilian users favor festive, vibrant, and colorful elements, with a preferred style leaning towards folk cultural activities and art exhibitions. Their match degree, product preference index, and regional adaptability score are 78%, 0.75, and 8.2, respectively. Additionally, users from Russia, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and Thailand exhibit high emotional resonance with designs related to rural architecture, handicrafts, and performing arts, with evaluation values of 0.89, 0.82, and 0.81, respectively. This study reveals the complex interactions between emotions and design elements in a cross-cultural context, providing valuable insights for the international promotion of rural cultural brands.

A Method for Style Transfer from Artistic Images Based on Depth Extraction Generative Adversarial Network
2023
Depth extraction generative adversarial network (DE-GAN) is designed for artistic work style transfer. Traditional style transfer models focus on extracting texture features and color features from style images through an autoencoding network by mixing texture features and color features using high-dimensional coding. In the aesthetics of artworks, the color, texture, shape, and spatial features of the artistic object together constitute the artistic style of the work. In this paper, we propose a multi-feature extractor to extract color features, texture features, depth features, and shape masks from style images with U-net, multi-factor extractor, fast Fourier transform, and MiDas depth estimation network. At the same time, a self-encoder structure is used as the content extraction network core to generate a network that shares style parameters with the feature extraction network and finally realizes the generation of artwork images in three-dimensional artistic styles. The experimental analysis shows that compared with other advanced methods, DE-GAN-generated images have higher subjective image quality, and the generated style pictures are more consistent with the aesthetic characteristics of real works of art. The quantitative data analysis shows that images generated using the DE-GAN method have better performance in terms of structural features, image distortion, image clarity, and texture details.

As China’s housing market shifts from quantity expansion to quality improvement, consumer expectations for both functionality and aesthetics in residential products are rising. Drawing on the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) framework, this study develops a perceptual mechanism model to examine how display design identity and facility service satisfaction influence millennials’ willingness to purchase improved housing, mediated by an elevated sense of style and moderated by upward social comparison. Based on structural equation modeling with 491 valid responses, the findings reveal that facility service satisfaction has a significant direct effect on purchase intention, while display design identity affects behavior indirectly through an elevated sense of style. Moreover, the elevated sense of style serves as a critical mediator in multiple pathways, and its effect is significantly moderated by upward social comparison. This study contributes to the housing consumption literature by clarifying how functional and symbolic factors jointly shape purchase intentions, especially under the influence of social comparison dynamics. It also highlights the role of artistic display design as a symbolic stimulus that enhances style perception and self-identity among younger consumers, offering practical insights for improved housing design and marketing strategies.
