\"Offers a critical analysis of the conventional wisdom regarding ASEAN and its efforts to transform Southeast Asia's security environment\"-- Provided by publisher.
The Making of Southeast Asia
2012,2013
\"Amitav Acharya has written a splendidly ambitious book. Travelling from the discipline of International Relations to the historiography of Southeast Asia and back again, it draws upon a range of methodologies to analyse the issue of identity in the configuration of Southeast Asia. But it provides more than an academic assessment. With this book, Acharya must be judged to have contributed not just to the study of Southeast Asian regionalism, but to the process itself.\"
–Anthony Milner, Basham Professor of Asian History, Australian National University
ASEAN 50 : regional security cooperation through selected documents

The making of the ASEAN Charter
2009
On the historic occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2007, the leaders of the ten-member countries signed the ASEAN Charter. This is an important milestone for the regional group as the Charter will make ASEAN stronger, more united and more effective. The Charter embodies the ASEAN community's purposes and principles, organs and decision-making process; a new legal personality; a system for the settlement of disputes; and an ASEAN Human Rights Body.
Asia rising
2008
China, India and Japan are among the biggest players in the global economy today. However, Asia's future depends not just on its impressive growth rates or its immense natural resources and human talent; rather, it also hinges on the quality of leadership provided by the major nations and associations of Asia, and their ability to overcome persisting rivalries and respond to new transnational challenges.
50 years of ASEAN and Singapore
\"On the 8th of August 2017, ASEAN will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. ASEAN is of great importance to Singapore, the region and the world. In 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN in short, was founded by five countries in Southeast Asia which had just gained independence from their former colonial masters, united by a determination for the region to live in peace and stability. Singapore was one of the five founding members of ASEAN, together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. The grouping was joined later by Brunei (1984), Vietnam (1995), Laos and Myanmar (1997), and finally, Cambodia (1999). ASEAN is today a very successful inter-governmental organization which promotes peace, stability, economic development and regional integration. This volume brings together 50 essays written by Singaporeans who have played a part in the partnership between ASEAN and Singapore. The reader will be able to glean an insight into the workings of ASEAN and Singapore's contributions to ASEAN through the lens of diplomats, academics, civil society leaders and officials\"--Provided by publisher.

ASEAN: WHAT IT CANNOT DO, WHAT IT CAN AND SHOULD DO
I believe that the best way I can contribute to this excellent effort at a greater understanding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is to highlight what I see as elements in the nature of ASEAN — what it is and what it is not, what it can do and what it cannot do, what can be expected of it and what should not…

COVERING ASEAN FOR THREE DECADES
“It was so boring. Why do you keep on covering ASEAN?” asked a rookie journalist from Khao Sod Daily at the Cha-am Summit, Hua Hin, in February 2009.
“Nobody else does it”, I replied without hesitation.
That was a very pompous answer given to a 21-year-old beat reporter who was in a hurry to know why I have been so consistent in reporting on the affairs of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) — a subject she found herself disinterested in and disconnected from. Actually, there are better reasons why following ASEAN affairs can be rewarding, engaging, fun and educational…
