Steel Corrosion in Concrete
1997,2014
Poor durability of concrete is a major cause of problems in modern building and civil engineering structures in all countries: the annual cost of investigating and repairing deteriorating reinforced concrete structures runs into many millions of pounds. This book explains the fundamentals of the corrosion of steel in concrete. It is comprehensive a
Introduction. Mechanisms of Steel Corrosion. Relations Between Corrosion and the Structure and Properties of Concrete. Corrosion Measurements. Corrosion Damage. Corrosion Measurements. Corrosion Control. Specificaitons and Design. Repair and Rehabilitation. Index.
Design and Analysis of Connections in Steel Structures
2018
The book introduces all the aspects needed for the safe and economic design and analysis of connections using bolted joints in steel structures. This is not treated according to any specific standard but making comparison among the different norms and methodologies used in the engineering practice, e.g. Eurocode, AISC, DIN, BS.Several examples are solved and illustrated in detail, giving the reader all the tools necessary to tackle also complex connection design problems. The book is introductory but also very helpful to advanced and specialist audiences because it covers a large variety of practice demands for connection design. Parts that are not taken to an advanced level are seismic design, welds, interaction with other materials (concrete, wood), and cold formed connections./p
Steel detailers' manual
2008
This highly illustrated manual provides practical guidance on structural steelwork detailing. It: describes the common structural shapes in use and how they are joined to form members and complete structures explains detailing practice and conventions provides detailing data for standard sections, bolts and welds emphasises the importance of tolerances in order to achieve proper site fit-up discusses the important link between good detailing and construction costs Examples of structures include single and multi-storey buildings, towers and bridges. The detailing shown will be suitable in principle for fabrication and erection in many countries, and the sizes shown will act as a guide to preliminary design. The second edition has been updated to take account of changes to standards, including the revisions to BS5950 and includes a new chapter on computer aided detailing.

Fully revised and updated, this Eighth Edition is an invaluable tool for all practicing structural, civil, and mechanical engineers as well as engineering students. Responding to changes in design and processing standards, including fabrication, welding, and coatings, this resource introduces the main concepts of designing steel structures; describes the limit states method of design; demonstrates the methods of calculating the design capacities of structural elements and connections; and illustrates the calculations by means of worked examples. Design aids and extensive references to external sources are also included.

Earthquake effects
2014,2013
Observation and research into the performance of steel structures during recent large earthquakes, such as those in Mexico City, Loma Prieta, Northridge, and Kobe, has produced some very interesting results; not least in emphasizing differences in the seismic effects of near-source and far-source earthquakes. This book presents a critical review of the huge amount of technical information generated from these observations. The authors consider all types of steel structures, and present a new philosophy for their effective and safe design.

Structural design
2002
These two volumes of proceedings contain nine invited keynote papers and 130 contributed papers presented at the Third International Conference on Advances in Steel Structures (ICASS '02) held on 9-11 December 2002 in Hong Kong, China. The conference is a sequel to the First and the Second International Conferences on Advances in Steel Structures held in Hong Kong in December 1996 and 1999. The conference provides a forum for discussion and dissemination by researchers and designers of recent advances in the analysis, behaviour, design and construction of steel structures. Papers were contributed from over 18 countries around the world. They report current state-of-the art and point to future directions of structural steel research, covering a wide spectrum of topics including: beams and columns; connections; scaffolds and slender structures; cold-formed steel; composite construction; plates; shells; bridges; dynamics; impact mechanics; effects of welding; fatigue and fracture; fire performance; and analysis and design.
Building with Steel
2012,2007
A handbook for quick, goal-oriented reading and implementation. Case study projects exemplify common norm details using large-scale drawings. The fundamentals of planning load-bearing structures provide design and planning help.
