Oklahoma couple climbs away their stress
\"Since 2006 we've taken 120 kids out there,\" she said. \"They're on probation when they are in the program, so it's hard to know what has happened to them after the program.\" \"I've written a lot of article-length stories about climbing,\" she said. \"I haven't had anything published, but it is fun. [Stephen P. Alcorn] is a photographer by college education. I think he's the only photographer-judge around.\" \"I've climbed higher places, like at Grand Teton in Wyoming or Yosemite in California,\" she said. \"My goal would be to climb Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. One of Stephen's goals is to stand on top of Mt. Rainier in Washington.\"
Penasco wins with class
PEnASCO -- The Lady Lobos of Escalante stopped short of offering the Penasco Lady Panthers a ridehome. It was the only cordial gesture of the night the Lady Lobos didn't make. The Lady Panthers belted out a nine-point run to end the first quarter ahead 15-4, and extended the lead to 22-4 before Chelsea Spill hit the bottom end of two free throws with 4:42 left before the half. Spill had five of the Lady Lobos' eight points in the second quarter, as Penasco took a 27-12 lead into the locker room. By the time Vanessa Garcia drained a 3 for Penasco with 1:25 left in the third quarter, the Lady Panthers were ahead 41-18. Even with the bench playing much of the final period, Penasco never faltered.
Progress for city's disabled 'damned slow'
Rochette, who will be 58 next month, determined to live on his own despite being confined to a wheelchair. But that's a lot easier said than done in Sudbury. At least two people in Sudbury know exactly where Norm Rochette is coming from. They both work trying to improve the lives of disabled people in Sudbury, and they have a challenge for municipal leaders. Susan Alcorn MacKay is director of the Glenn Crombie Centre for disability services at Cambrian College. She is challenging Mayor Dave Courtemanche to declare an accessibility week in Greater Sudbury to draw attention to the needs of the disabled.
Bailey carries Argos to sectional title
Argos girls soccer coach Jon Alcorn calls Alyssa Bailey the best player in Northern Indiana. For Bailey, it was a happy night as Argos won its third sectional title in the last four years. The senior forward, who is being courted by Division I programs, is back in fine form after missing all of last season with a torn ACL. Argos, who won the regional in 2000, took control with two goals in a 1:52 span of the opening half. Bailey tallied at 32:53, assisted by sophomore Krista Null. Sophomore Emilee Stone then curled in a great long shot, off a pass from Melissa Vanduyne. Another Bailey tally, this one in which she dribbled in and beat the keeper, made it 3-0 at halftime.

'LITTLE BITTY' GIRL TACKLES TRESPASSER
Melissa Alexander, a Valley View High School junior, said her training in track and running bases for the varsity softball team came in handy, as did her ability to handle horses, which she cares for at her family's property on Stiver Road in rural German Twp. German Twp. police were called after Melissa's cousin, 21-year- old Jennifer Alcorn, saw a vehicle pull up slowly in front of the driveway, back up and stop. Three men jumped out and ran up the driveway, where the family's four cars were parked. Alcorn, staying with Melissa's parents while her house is being built, went upstairs to alert her aunt, Vickie Stanley. BILL REINKE/DAYTON DAILY NEWS JENNIFER ALCORN, 21, (left), and cousin, Melissa Alexander, 17, demonstrate how Alexander used a rope to tie up a trespasser.
