Ejercicio físico y envejecimiento saludable; impacto sobre el bienestar general y la aptitud física en adultos mayores
Introducción: el ejercicio físico es crucial para el envejecimiento saludable, ofreciendo múltiples beneficios en la aptitud física y el bienestar general de adultos mayores.  Objetivo: evaluar los efectos de tres tipos de ejercicio físico (baile, ejercicios-coordinativos y programa-multimodal) sobre capacidad funcional y bienestar general en adultos mayores de una ciudad colombiana.  Metodología: estudio cuasi experimental con 450 adultos mayores que asistieron a encuentros diarios en tres grupos de tercera edad, participaron voluntariamente y firmaron consentimiento informado; se aplicó Senior-Fitness-Test y escala T-WHO5.  Resultados: el ejercicio multimodal tuvo mayor impacto en el mejoramiento de las capacidades físicas mientras que el baile en el bienestar psicológico; la intervención centrada en coordinación fue la menos efectiva. Discusión: En concordancia con otros autores se identificaron no solo los efectos principales de cada intervención, sino también cómo las variables de tiempo, edad y las interacciones entre estas influyen en los resultados obtenidos.  Conclusiones: las intervenciones no producen el mismo impacto en todos los grupos de edad; en las personas mayores, es necesario adaptar los programas de actividad física a las características y habilidades particulares para optimizar su efectividad.
Importance of physical fitness in physical literacy and life satisfaction of Physical Education students
In recent years, research on physical literacy has experienced remarkable growth, identifying the factors in this multidimensional concept that may play a role in the acquisition of healthy habits. In addition, multiple studies have identified significant correlations between physical literacy and quality of life, although they did not find a reason for this relationship. One of the factors that could explain this behavior is physical fitness. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the role of physical fitness and its components in the relationship between physical literacy and life satisfaction. For this purpose, the Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze the differences in the scores of the questionnaires applied, Spearman's rho, to determine the correlations between physical literacy and life satisfaction, using Hedges' g for the interpretation of the effect size. In addition, a mediation analysis was conducted to understand how physical fitness affects the relationship between literacy and life satisfaction. A moderation analysis was then applied to explore whether variables related to physical fitness modified the correlation and added to the prediction model. Finally, the reliability and validity of the questionnaires were tested using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's omega coefficient. The results showed that physical fitness, especially cardiorespiratory fitness, was a moderator and mediator in this relationship, demonstrating that increasing cardiorespiratory fitness enhances the effect of physical literacy on improving life satisfaction among high school students.
Sibling's resemblance in health-and performance-related fitness among Brazilian youth
Introduction: Physical fitness (PF) is recognized as a crucial element for fostering various health and performance benefits in children and adolescents. Although PF is determined by ge-netic and environmental factors, little is known about the degree of influence of these factors on PF expression among siblings.Objective: This study aims to examine the degreeof sibling resemblance on PF components as well as estimate the influence of individual and contextual factors on sibling resemblance on PF among Brazilian children. Methodology: The sample comprised 784 pairs of siblings (405 boys; 5-15 years), from Lagoa do Carro, Brazil. PF was assessed with the 20-m shuttle run, standing long jump, handgrip strength, shuttle run, 20-m dash, and sit and reach. Anthropometry, biological maturation, gross motor coordination, and school characteristics were also measured.Results: In general, sibling intraclass correlations differed significantly across sib-ship types for all PF tests. Same-sex siblings (brother-brother or sister-sister) had higher resemblance in the sit and reach, shuttle run, standing long jump, and 20-m dash tests (ρ between 0.06 and 0.36), while opposite-sex pairs (brother-sister) showed higher resemblance in 20-m shuttle run, handgrip, and total PF tests (ρ between 0.05 and 0.27). Further, both individual and school characteristics were associated with the magnitude of sibling resemblance. Conclusions: Our results show significant sibling resemblance in PF traits in Brazilian children.In addition, individual and school characteristics are associated with different PF traits and in-fluence the magnitude of intrapair shared variance, especially for brother-brother siblings. Introducción: La aptitud física (AF) es reconocida como un elemento crucial para favorecer di-versos beneficios para la salud y el desempeño en niños y adolescentes. Aunque la AF está de-terminada por factores genéticos y ambientales, poco se sabe sobre el grado de influencia de estos factores en la expresión de la AF entre hermanos. Objetivo: Este estudio busca examinar el grado de semejanza entre hermanos en los componen-tes de la AF, así como estimar la influencia de factores individuales y contextuales en la semejanza entre hermanos en la AF entre niños brasileños. Metodología: La muestra comprendió 784 pares de hermanos (405 de sexo masculino; 5-15 años), de Lagoa do Carro, Brasil. La AF se evaluó con el 20-m shuttle run, el salto de longitud de pie, la fuerza de prensión de la mano, el shuttle run, la carrera de 20 m y el sentarse y alcanzar. También se midieron la antropometría, la maduración biológica, la coordinación motora gruesa y las características escolares. Resultados: En general, las correlaciones intraclase entre hermanos difirieron significativa-mente entre los distintos tipos de parentesco para todas las pruebas de AF. Los hermanos del mismo sexo (hermano-hermano o hermana-hermana) tuvieron un mayor parecido en las pruebas de sentarse y alcanzar, shuttle run, salto de longitud de pie y carrera de 20 metros (ρentre 0,06 y 0,36), mientras que las parejas de distinto sexo (hermano-hermana) mostraron un mayor parecido en las pruebas de 20-m shuttle run, la fuerza de prensión de la mano y AF total (ρentre 0,05 y 0,27). Además, tanto las características individuales como las escolares se asocia-ron con la magnitud del parecido entre hermanos. Conclusiones: Nuestros resultados muestran una significativa semejanza entre hermanos en las características de la AF en niños brasileños. Además, las características individuales y escolares están asociadas con diferentes características de FP e influyen en la magnitud de la varianza compartida intrapareja, especialmente para los hermanos.

Effects of different physical training models on physical preparation in school physical education
Introduction: Physical preparation is fundamental to school PE, yet heterogeneity exists in the effectiveness of various training models for adolescent fitness, with few empirical comparisons in real educational settings. Objective: This study compared the effects of HIIT, resistance, combined aerobic-resistance, and circuit training on multidimensional physical preparation in secondary school students. Methodology: A 12-week quasi-experimental parallel study included 156 adolescents aged 13–16, cluster-randomized into four intervention groups and one control group (n=39 each). Physical preparation was assessed via cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, endurance, speed-agility and flexibility. Data were analyzed using mixed-design ANOVA, Bonferroni post-hoc tests and effect size calculation. Results: Significant Time × Group interactions were observed across all variables (p < 0.001, η²p = 0.18–0.34). High-intensity interval training produced the largest improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness (ΔVO₂max = +4.2 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹, d = 1.15). Resistance training maximized strength and power development (d = 0.91–0.98). Circuit-based training demonstrated superior muscular endurance (d = 0.96–1.02) and speed-agility improvements (d = 0.87). Combined training generated the most balanced adaptations across domains (mean d = 0.82, SD = 0.09). Post-pubertal participants showed significantly greater strength gains across all models (p < 0.05). Discussion: The findings confirmed distinct domain-specific physiological adaptations across training models, consistent with training specificity literature. Results highlighted the importance of tailored training strategies for targeted physical outcomes in education. Conclusion: Different training models yield specific performance benefits; therefore, schools should implement structured, periodized, and outcome-oriented training programs, with combined and circuit-based approaches offering the most comprehensive physical development. Objetivo: Este estudio comparó los efectos del entrenamiento interválico de alta intensidad (HIIT), el entrenamiento de resistencia, el entrenamiento combinado aeróbico-resistente y el entrenamiento en circuito sobre la preparación física multidimensional en estudiantes de secundaria. Metodología: Un estudio cuasiexperimental paralelo de 12 semanas incluyó a 156 adolescentes de 13 a 16 años, asignados aleatoriamente a cuatro grupos de intervención y un grupo control (n=39 cada uno). Fitness levels of elementary school students based on gender and race in Indonesia: Are there differences?
This research aimed to determine differences in physical fitness levels based on Race and Gender in Indonesia. It used a comparative quantitative approach. The samples in this research were elementary school students in three provinces: Sumsel, DIY, and NTT. They were selected using cluster random sampling and yielded 254 people. Then, the samples were clustered to equalize numbers based on students’ gender and regional race (South Sumatra, DIY, & NTT). After this process, the remaining 132 people were taken. Students’ physical fitness data were collected using the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI). The data were then analyzed using the parametric Two-Way ANOVA statistics. The results of the Two-Way ANOVA test showed that the race factor variable had a value of Sig. 0.00 < 0.05. This value indicates a significant difference in the TKJI test scores between races in the three provinces: South Sumatra, DIY, and NTT. In the gender factor variable, the Sig. 0.001 < 0.05, meaning a significant difference was also found in the TKJI test scores between male and female students. Furthermore, for the combined race and gender factor variables, the Sig 0.485 > 0.05. Since the Sig value was greater, there is no influence or interaction between the race and gender factors in the three provinces in determining the results of the students' TKJI scores. Differences in physical fitness in terms of race can be caused by differences in physical activity, socioeconomic status, and social factors, such as racial discrimination and interpersonal racial discrimination. These differences can manifest as emotional stress due to increased psychological stress and increased risk of unhealthy behavior, including activities. In addition, the difference in physical fitness was also found between genders. The results show that men have a better level of physical fitness than women. One of the reasons is possibly due to increased fat mass associated with growth and puberty in girls. In addition, boys are often more active than girls. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar las diferencias en los niveles de forma física en función de la raza y el sexo en Indonesia. Este método de investigación utiliza un enfoque cuantitativo comparativo cuyo objetivo es determinar el alcance de las diferencias en los resultados de los niveles de condición física de los alumnos de primaria en función del género (masculino y femenino) y de la raza en tres provincias (Sumsel, DIY y NTT). En esta investigación participaron alumnos de primaria de tres provincias (Sumsel, DIY y NTT). Construction and standardization of a physical and physiological fitness test battery for students of colleges of Physical Education and Sport Sciences
Objective: This study aimed to construct and standardize a physical and physiological fitness test battery specifically designed for students of Colleges of Physical Education and Sport Sciences in the Arab region, thereby addressing a gap in local assessment tools. Methodology: A multi-stage research methodology was employed, beginning with the nomination of a set of preliminary tests and the validation of their content by 16 experts. Subsequently, the psychometric properties of the approved tests (discriminant validity, reliability, and objectivity) were verified using a construction sample of 30 students. Finally, the definitive battery was administered to a standardization sample of 490 students to establish normative performance standards using Z-scores and T-scores. Results: The results showed that the selected tests possessed high psychometric properties. They revealed significant variability in the students' physical and physiological fitness levels, confirming the need for a precise measurement tool. Performance norms were successfully established for components such as explosive power, flexibility, muscular endurance, and speed, in addition to vital physiological indicators. Discussion and Conclusions: This test battery serves as a powerful diagnostic tool that contributes to an objective understanding of students' physical capabilities. It provides educators with a practical framework to identify strengths and weaknesses and to design more effective, individualized training programs. It is recommended that these norms be used as a primary reference for student assessment and guidance, thereby enhancing the quality of sports education and professional readiness in the region. Objetivo: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo construir y estandarizar una batería de pruebas de aptitud física y fisiológica diseñada específicamente para estudiantes de Facultades de Educación Física y Ciencias del Deporte en la región árabe, con el fin de abordar una brecha en las herramientas de evaluación locales. Metodología: Se empleó una metodología de investigación de múltiples etapas, comenzando con la nominación de un conjunto de pruebas preliminares y la validación de su contenido por 16 expertos. Posteriormente, se verificaron las propiedades psicométricas de las pruebas aprobadas (validez discriminante, fiabilidad y objetividad) utilizando una muestra de construcción de 30 estudiantes. Finalmente, la batería definitiva se administró a una muestra de estandarización de 490 estudiantes para establecer estándares de rendimiento normativos utilizando las puntuaciones Z y T. Resultados: Los resultados mostraron que las pruebas seleccionadas poseían altas propiedades psicométricas. Revelaron una variabilidad significativa en los niveles de aptitud física y fisiológica de los estudiantes, lo que confirma la necesidad de una herramienta de medición precisa. Metodologia: Foi empregue uma metodologia de investigação em múltiplas etapas, começando pela nomeação de um conjunto preliminar de testes e a sua validação de conteúdo por 16 especialistas. As propriedades psicométricas dos testes aprovados (validade discriminante, fiabilidade e objetividade) foram posteriormente verificadas através de uma amostra de construção de 30 estudantes. Por fim, a bateria final foi aplicada a uma amostra de padronização de 490 estudantes para estabelecer padrões normativos de desempenho utilizando os escores Z e T. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que os testes selecionados possuíam elevadas propriedades psicométricas. Recomenda-se que estes padrões sejam utilizados como referência primária para a avaliação e orientação dos alunos, melhorando assim a qualidade da educação desportiva e da preparação profissional na região.
The Advantageous Correlation Between Anthropometry and Physical Fitness in Amateur Soccer Players
Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a estreita relação entre peso corporal (PC) e índice de massa corporal (IMC) com a aptidão física em jogadores amadores de futebol.Materiais e métodos: Participaram 31 jogadores de futebol do sexo masculino, com idades entre 18 e 22 anos. O delineamento da pesquisa foi um estudo transversal. A análise estatística foi realizada utilizando o teste de correlação de Pearson (p < 0,05).. Resultados: O valor médio e a categoria de velocidade (3,59 segundos) e menos (> 4,6 segundos), potência muscular da perna (69,42 cm) e muito bom (62-69 cm), resistência muscular (28,90 vezes) na categoria bom (20-28 vezes), a resistência anaeróbica média foi de 50,23 segundos com uma categoria moderada (49,90-55,29 segundos), a agilidade média foi de 13,60 segundos com uma categoria menos (< 25 segundos) e a flexibilidade média foi de 25,22 cm com categoria (> 25 cm). O valor médio da resistência muscular abdominal foi de 38,87 vezes em uma categoria moderada (30-49 vezes). A capacidade aeróbica média foi de 31,47 mL/kg/min em uma categoria moderada (27-45 mL/kg/min). A análise de correlação de Pearson mostrou uma correlação negativa fraca entre BW e IMC com velocidade, resistência anaeróbica, agilidade e flexibilidade. Differential impacts of high and low-intensity physical exercise on brain wave activity and functional connectivity in professional athletes: a systematic review
Introduction: This systematic review explores the differential impacts of high and low-intensity physical exercise on brain wave activity and functional connectivity in professional athletes. The study aims to elucidate how varying exercise intensities influence cognitive and emotional responses, brain connectivity, and overall mental health. Additionally, it examines the potential synergistic effects of integrating neurofeedback training with physical exercise. Method: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Keywords included \"high-intensity exercise,\" \"low-intensity exercise,\" \"brain wave activity,\" \"functional connectivity,\" \"professional athletes,\" and \"cognitive performance.\" Inclusion criteria were studies published in peer-reviewed journals involving professional athletes and examining the impact of exercise intensity on brain wave activity and functional connectivity. Data extraction focused on study design, sample size, exercise intensity, neuroimaging techniques, brain wave activity, and functional connectivity outcomes. Results: High-intensity physical exercise was found to induce significant changes in functional connectivity within affect and reward networks, enhance mood, and improve cognitive performance through increased brain wave coherence and synchronization. Low-intensity exercise primarily enhanced cognitive and attentional processing by increasing resting-state functional connectivity in the fronto-parietal network. Neurofeedback training was shown to enhance brain wave activity, reduce stress levels, and increase self-control over physiological factors. The combined approach of neurofeedback and physical exercise demonstrated potential for optimizing both mental and physical performance in athletes. Conclusion: The findings indicate that high-intensity exercise leads to significant and prolonged changes in brain connectivity and cognitive performance, while low-intensity exercise benefits cognitive and attentional processing. The discussion introduces the Neurofeedback and Physical Fitness Synergy Theory, which posits that integrating neurofeedback with physical exercise can lead to optimal improvements in both physical fitness and mental health. This combined approach suggests a promising strategy for enhancing overall athletic performance and mental well-being. Future research should focus on standardized measures and long-term studies to further validate these findings and explore the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms. Impact of aerobic and heavy resistance exercise on fitness and emotions breast cancer survivors experience cancer-related tiredness
Objective: This study examined how two simultaneous supervised exercise programs affected breast cancer survivors with initial tiredness. Methodology: Thirty two female breast cancer survivors, aged 49 ± 4 years, were randomly assigned to aerobic (n = 16) or heavy resistance exercise (n = 16) exercise programs. Both programs included eighteen weeks of resistance training, but the aerobic component in the former was more vigorous and supervised, with a perceived exertion rating of 7–8, compared to 6 for the heavy resistance exerices interventions. Most of the study addressed felt weariness. Baseline and eighteen weeks endpoints were measured. The Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons placed the statistical significance level at 0.004. Results: The aerobic and heavy resistance exercise program reduced waist circumference (p = 0.035) and other anthropometric parameters (p = 0.029). Elevated p values in pre- and post-intervention comparisons show that aerobic exercise did not provide these advantages. No significant differences were seen between therapies, since all p values surpassed 0.004. Conclusions: In breast cancer survivors, further research is needed to determine if concurrent heavy resistance exercise is better than aerobic.
