Artificial Intelligence Research and Development
2012
One hundred years after the birth of Alan Turing, the great pioneer of computer science, artificial intelligence has become so much a part of everyday life that it is hard to imagine the world without it.This book contains papers from the 15th International Conference of the Catalan Association of Artificial Intelligence (CCIA 2012), held at the Universitat d'Alicant, Spain, in October 2012. Since 1994 the Catalan Association of Artificial Intelligence (ACIA) has fostered cooperation between researchers in artificial intelligence within the Catalan speaking community. The annual CCIA is its international conference, a platform where not only researchers from Catalan speaking countries, but also those working in artificial intelligence worldwide, have found a place to show, discuss and publish the results of their researches and developments. The 23 papers presented here, which include contributions from the AI community all over the world, cover topics such as KDD, DM and machine learning; natural language processing and recommenders; computer vision; robotics; AI for optimization problems and AI applications in the real world. The book also includes the contributions of the two invited keynote speakers at the conference - Oscar Cordón and Eduardo Nebot - which respectively address the subjects of real-world applications of soft artificial intelligence, and challenges of automation and safety in field robotics.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has started the evolution in computer science. It is in good health, as many companies qualify their novelties as 'smart' or 'intelligent'. The term 'society of knowledge' draws society nearer to the future and is a symbol of breakthrough. From this perspective, AI has reached maturity and has exploded into an endless set of sub-areas, getting in touch with all other disciplines, such as situation assessment, analysis and interpretation of music, management of environmental and biological systems, planning trains, routing of communication networks, assisting medical diagnosis or powering auctions. The wide variety of Artificial Intelligence application areas has meant that AI researchers often become scattered in different micro specialized fields. There are few occasions where the AI research community joins together, while computer scientists and engineers can find a lot of interesting ideas from the cross fertilization of results coming from all of these application areas. This book provides a representative selection of papers promoting synergies in the research community and includes papers on: Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Applications, Machine Learning, Reasoning, Planning and Robotics and Multi-Agent Systems. All of the papers collected in this volume would be of interest to any computer scientist or engineer interested in AI.
Artificial intelligence in education : 19th International Conference, AIED 2018, London, UK, June 27-30, 2018, Proceedings
This two volume set LNAI 10947 and LNAI 10948 constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, AIED 2018, held in London, UK, in June 2018. The 45 full papers presented in this book together with 76 poster papers, 11 young researchers tracks, 14 industry papers and 10 workshop papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 192 submissions. The conference provides opportunities for the cross-fertilization of approaches, techniques and ideas from the many fields that comprise AIED, including computer science, cognitive and learning sciences, education, game design, psychology, sociology, linguistics as well as many domain-specific areas.

Logic, Symbolic and mathematical-Congresses
2008
In the twentieth century, logic finally found a number of important applications and various new areas of research originated then, especially after the development of computing and the progress of the correlated domains of knowledge (artificial intelligence, robotics, automata, logical programming, hyper-computation, etc.). This happened not only in the field of classical logics, but also in the general field of non-classical logics. This reveals an interesting trait of the history of logic: despite its theoretical character, it constitutes, at present, an extraordinarily important tool in all domains of knowledge, in the same way as philosophy, mathematics, natural science, the humanities and technology. Moreover, certain new logics were inspired by the needs of specific areas of knowledge, and various new techniques and methods have been created, in part influenced and guided by logical views. Advances in Technological Applications of Logical and Intelligent Systems contains papers on relevant technological applications of logical methods and some of their extensions and gives a clear idea of some current applications of logical (and similar) methods to numerous problems, including relevant new concepts and results, in particular those related to paraconsistent logic. This book is of interest to a wide audience: pure logicians, applied logicians, mathematicians, philosophers and engineers.

2008
In the last decades information modelling and knowledge bases have become hot topics not only in academic communities related to information systems and computer science, but also in business areas where information technology is applied. This book includes papers submitted to the 17th European-Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC 2007). The EJC conferences constitute a world-wide research forum for the exchange of scientific results and experiences achieved in computer science and other related disciplines using innovative methods and progressive approaches. In this way a platform has been established drawing together researches as well as practitioners dealing with information modelling and knowledge bases. Thus the main topics of the EJC conferences target the variety of themes in the domain of information modelling, conceptual analysis, design and specification of information systems, ontologies, software engineering, knowledge and process management, data and knowledge bases. The organizers also aim at applying new progressive theories. To this end, much attention is being paid also to theoretical disciplines including cognitive science, artificial intelligence, logic, linguistics and analytical philosophy. The selected papers cover many areas of information modelling, namely theory of concepts, database semantics, knowledge representation, software engineering, WWW information management, context-based information retrieval, ontological technology, image databases, temporal and spatial databases, document data management, process management, and many others.
