LeBron, Inc. : the making of a billion-dollar athlete
With eight straight trips to the NBA Finals, LeBron James has proven himself one of the greatest basketball players of all time. And like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan before him, LeBron has also become a global brand and businessman who has altered the way professional athletes think about their value, maximize their leverage, and use their voice. LeBron, Inc. tells the story of James's journey down the path to becoming a billionaire sports icon -- his successes, his failures, and the lessons both have taught him along the way. With plenty of newsmaking tidbits about his rollercoaster last season in Cleveland and high-profile move to the Lakers, LeBron, Inc. shows how James has changed the way most elite athletes manage their careers, and how he launched a movement among his peers that may last decades beyond his playing days.
Strong decays of Formula omitted as a fully open-flavor tetraquark state
We have studied the strong decay properties of the recently observed [Formula omitted] by considering it as a [Formula omitted] fully open-flavor tetraquark state with [Formula omitted]. In the framework of QCD sum rules, we have calculated the three-point correlation functions of the two-body strong decay processes [Formula omitted], [Formula omitted] and [Formula omitted]. The full width of [Formula omitted] is obtained as [Formula omitted] MeV, which is consistent with the experimental observation. We predict the relative branching ratios as [Formula omitted], implying that the main decay modes of [Formula omitted] state are [Formula omitted] and DK channels in our calculations. However, the P-wave decay mode [Formula omitted] is also comparable and important by including the uncertainties. To further identify the nature of [Formula omitted], we suggest confirming them in the DK and [Formula omitted] final states, and measuring the above ratios in future experiments.
LeBron
Presents a definitive biography of one of the greatest athletes of all time that chronicles not only LeBron James' meteoric rise to fame but also his solid family, political activism, and business empire.
Relative age effects and implications for sport performance in elite Chinese junior male basketball players
Background The relative age effects (RAE) have been a hot topic in the field of sport research, and although the phenomenon has been found in most sports in China, there is currently no literature on the RAE phenomenon in Chinese basketball, which has implications for explaining some of the phenomena in that sport. A large body of research suggests that RAE contributes significantly to the phenomena of brain drain and inequality in sport participation. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether RAE exists in Chinese youth men’s basketball and whether RAE has an impact on the performance of athletes and teams, thus supporting the subsequent proposal of measures to balance the age effect. Methods This study analyzed the date of birth and performance rankings of all male athletes ( n  = 3926) who participated in the Chinese Youth Basketball Championships (U14, U15, and U17) from 2021 to 2023. The study divided the month of birth into quarters and semesters. Differences between actual observed and theoretical birth date distributions were statistically analyzed using the chi-square test, and subsequent calculations were made using the dominance ratio test. Results It was found that RAE was present in all three groups of Chinese youth male basketball players ( p  < 001). The percentages of athletes born in the first half of the year were 61.2% (U14), 59.9% (U15), and 59.0% (U17), and the percentages of athletes born in the first quarter were 38.6% (U14), 35.8% (U15), and 34.8% (U17). Conclusions As a result of RAE, U15 athletes born closer to the beginning of the year are likely to achieve better results, whereas athletes born closer to the end of the year are less likely to achieve athletic excellence.

Dynamic visual attention characteristics and their relationship to match performance in skilled basketball players
Dynamic visual attention is important in basketball because it may affect the performance of players and thus the match outcome. The goals of this study were to investigate the difference in dynamic visual attention characteristics between highly skilled basketball players and nonathletic college students and to explore the relationship between visual attention and game-related performance among the basketball players. In total, 24 highly skilled basketball players and 24 nonathletic college students participated in a multiple object tracking task. The task was conducted so that either the number of targets that were visually tracked or the speed at which a given number of tracked targets moved was altered to examine the difference in dynamic visual attention characteristics between the basketball players and nonathletic college students. The relationship between visual tracking speed (VTS) and game-related statistics, including assists, steals, mistakes, fouls and points scored recorded for every match during the season, was assessed among the basketball players by using Pearson correlations. A significant main effect of target tracking load was observed ( < 0.001), with visual tracking performance significantly decreased as target number increased. In addition, the speed at which the targets moved had a significant effect on visual tracking performance ( < 0.001), with tracking performance significantly decreased as target speed increased. However, no significant difference was observed in the abilities of basketball players and nonathletic college students to simultaneously track up to six targets. By contrast, a significant interaction between group and target speed was found ( < 0.001), with the visual tracking accuracy of basketball players significantly greater than that of college students at the higher target speeds examined ( < 0.001). Among basketball players, there were positive, large, and statistically significant correlations in the accuracy in VTS trials and the number of assists ( < 0.001) and between the accuracy in VTS trials and the number of steals ( < 0.001). The advantage of skilled basketball players to handle dynamic visual information in a multiple object tracking task was not attributable to the target number but to the target speed. Those athletes with greater dynamic visual attention were more likely to successfully assist or to steal the ball, enhancing performance of the athlete as well as contributing to a more successful team match. These findings may inform basketball training programs to improve player and team performances during matches.

The semi-leptonic form factors of Formula omitted and Formula omitted in QCD sum rules
In this work, the full leading order results of the form factors for [Formula omitted] and [Formula omitted] are obtained in QCD sum rules. Contributions from up to dimension-5 have been considered. For completeness, we also study the two-point correlation function to obtain the pole residues of [Formula omitted] and [Formula omitted], and higher accuracy is achieved. For the three-point correlation function, since stable Borel regions cannot be found, about [Formula omitted] uncertainties are introduced for the form factors of [Formula omitted] and [Formula omitted]. Our results for the form factors are consistent with those of the lattice QCD within errors.
Basketball (and other things) : a collection of questions asked, answered, illustrated
\"Thirty-three chapters, each chapter ... a different basketball question that needs to be answered. Some of them are obviously crucial ... and some of them are secretly crucial. But all of them are approached in ways that ([the author] hope[s] you think) are smart and fun and nuanced\"--Back cover.
When Mexicans Could Play Ball
In 1939, a team of short, scrappy kids from a vocational school established specifically for Mexican Americans became the high school basketball champions of San Antonio, Texas. Their win, and the ensuing riot it caused, took place against a backdrop of shifting and conflicted attitudes toward Mexican Americans and American nationalism in the WWII era. \"Only when the Mexicans went from perennial runners-up to champs,\" García writes, \"did the emotions boil over.\" The first sports book to look at Mexican American basketball specifically,When Mexicans Could Play Ballis also a revealing study of racism and cultural identity formation in Texas. Using personal interviews, newspaper articles, and game statistics to create a compelling narrative, as well as drawing on his experience as a sports writer, García takes us into the world of San Antonio's Sidney Lanier High School basketball team, the Voks, which became a two-time state championship team under head coach William Carson \"Nemo\" Herrera. An alumnus of the school himself, García investigates the school administrators' project to Americanize the students, Herrera's skillful coaching, and the team's rise to victory despite discrimination and violence from other teams and the world outside of the school. Ultimately, García argues, through their participation and success in basketball at Lanier, the Voks players not only learned how to be American but also taught their white counterparts to question long-held assumptions about Mexican Americans.
