Vernon Under 15s strike silver
Coeur d'Alene then countered before forward Cameron McCrae showed versatility and skill in moving back to defence due to injuries as Vernon played short handed for a portion of the game. [Erik Reardon] cashed in on a cross pass from Deon Smith for the winner. -- The Vernon Incredibles managed a scoreless draw with the Kamloops Blaze in U13A girls action Sunday at Marshall Field. Keeper Kelsey Thompson made a few clutch saves as Kamloops hemmed the Incredibles in for most of the first half. Vernon picked up their play in the second half and got strong showings from Dayna Epp and Kirsten Dodds. Courtney Patton enjoyed the best scoring chance in a goalmouth scramble with a short kick.

\"I'm just excited about playing football and getting back in my routine and my schedule,\" he said. \"I think I've done that pretty well.\" \"I'll stick with that,\" he said. \"I'll just have to rehab it better, and we'll see what it does in the offseason. I'll see what I have to do.\" \"I think recently he's gaining more confidence. I know his shoulder has been bothering him,\" [Olson] said. \"Just being out there is one of those things that's a comfort zone for a lot of us on the team. No matter what's going on in your personal life, when you're out on the field you can let it go and play football, and I think he's been able to do that. And I think he's playing very well.\"
Defense, Special Teams Push Bison to Victory
\"There was a real resolve and determination, especially by our seniors. We had a couple of tough years here,\" coach Craig Bohl said. \"Our guys wanted to make sure we returned Bison football to national prominence. It's not easy to do. I want to thank them because today we returned Bison football to national prominence.\" \"It was a momentum changer,\" Bearkats coach Willie Fritz said. \"We're not a team that's used to playing from behind.\" \"It hit me right in the chest,\" [Travis Beck] said. \"I said, 'I better catch this one.' I did what I could, but I couldn't get in. Luckily, the offense finished it off.\"
Fulton bench gives title relief
\"It was a bit of a foulfest,\" said Fulton coach [Dale Olson]. \"Morgan Conlin, our leading scorer, Jason Reinholcz and Justin Wurz got into foul trouble, and between Morgan and Jason, they played about two minutes in the second half so our bench really picked it up and kept the aggressive play going. I was very happy with how we won that game.\" \"VSS is a good team so we'll have to watch them (at Valleys),\" added Olson. \"We know those guys can score so we knew our bench had to shut them down.\" \"It was a group effort,\" said [Travis Beck]. \"Our bench is not quite as good as our starters, but they managed to play as well as our starters and played tough through it all.\"
Construction springs back, but it's different
\"There is a stronger demand for technological skills,\" said Ken Simonson, chief economist at Associated General Contractors of America. \"Laborers with limited training may not cut it anymore.\" \"Right now, there are a lot of master electricians retiring and they're not changing. They don't care too much about it. But for anybody getting into the trade, it's necessary,\" said [Nickolas Lombardi], 35, a project supervisor from Lakewood, Colorado, who underwent the training after being hired by Power Design Inc., a large electrical contractor that has a 12,000-square-foot training center at its headquarters in Tampa. \"They can assimilate a semi-skilled worker and make them skilled within a few months,\" [Scott Moss] said. \"The people who have figured out the new formula are going to do well in this new upturn.\"
Construction industry picking back up
Yet it's a measure of how hard the sector was hit that at it has regained just 900,000 of the 2.3 million jobs it lost from 2007 to 2011. The annual unemployment rate for construction workers stood at 9.8 percent last year, down steeply from the industry's 20.6 percent annual unemployment rate in 2010, but still significantly higher than last year's national annual unemployment rate of 6.2 percent. \"Right now, there are a lot of master electricians retiring and they're not changing. They don't care too much about it. But for anybody getting into the trade, it's necessary, said [Nickolas Lombardi], 35, a project supervisor from Lakewood, Colorado, who underwent the training after being hired by Power Design Inc., a large electrical contractor that has a 12,000-square-foot training center at its headquarters in Tampa, Florida. Travis Beck's carpenters' union in North Dakota has contracts for 10 projects in 2015 already, and each job will need up to 30 workers, he said. The union's apprenticeship program has room for 50 applicants, about five times the number it did seven years ago, during the heart of the recession.

\"It's a devastating loss to our defense,\" [Chris Klieman] said. \"He's been one of the heart-and-soul guys for that unit for the last four years. You can't replace [Travis Beck].\" \"It's never easy to see as a coach, you know it's part of the game but in the same respect it's always difficult,\" Klieman said. \"I think it would have been more difficult if we played this Saturday with short prep work. We've got to have a Plan A and a Plan B. Some of it will be dictated by what we see offensive personnel-wise.\" \"He'll have to make a decision like [Cole Jirik],\" Klieman said. \"He won't be able to go through the normal winter workouts and prepare for pro day.\"
Missouri Valleyhead confident infuture of league
\"Our hope is not to become collateral damage as this unfolds,\" [Patty Viverito] said Monday on the league's preseason teleconference. \"I think it's pretty clear the top five FBS conferences look very different from the bottom five. I think we could fare very well when you get past those five. Sanford's initial victory New Indiana State coach Mike Sanford said his \"first recruit\" was standout Sycamores' tailback Shakir Bell, who had considered transferring when former coach Trent Miles left for Georgia State. \"There is some validity to those rumors,\" said Sanford. \"I'm very glad he's with us. I'm excited about working with him.\"
Drop the Hammer
[Stewart Hehn]: \" I'd always wanted to be in a hip-hop group. I think the first time I ever got the idea was when I saw [Joe Younglove] perform a song called 'I Like to Rap' at the Rusty Munch (Variety) Show. Suddenly the idea that we could do this popped in my head.\" Hehn: \"I usually start with a riff. I'll loop together a riff, something really simple with maybe just one or two changes, and then [Travis Beck] will lay down a beat. It's not always a strictly hiphop beat, though; a lot of the time it's more of a funk beat, or even really fast, hard-core thrashing. Then these guys just write all of the time, so they always have raps they can add to it. We pumped out so many songs in our first practice alone.\" Beck: \"Not yet, at least. The No. 1 adjective people use to describe our shows and our music is 'fun.' I guess you can't argue with that.\"
