'Looking for slightly more perfection': Sir Thomas Beecham and recording
2013
'That Thomas Beecham has joined the directorate of the National Gramophone Co., is significant [in] that the Marathon record is going to make a bold bid to educate the public to a very high standard of music; other than Landon Ronald whose fame rests partly on The Gramophone [Company]--HMV of course--no name carries more weight in English musical circles.' This extract from an industry news column 'Notes and News' in an unidentified trade magazine, dated February 1913, is the first document to greet the enquirer into the Beecham files held at the EMI Archive. It indicates succinctly that Sir Thomas Beecham became involved in the recording industry very early in his career in both a business as well as an artistic capacity.

Pallbearers wearing pink - Kyla Dorsey-Williams' favorite color - carried her small white casket from a hearse to the altar of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Queens Village. The casket was surrounded by an illuminated \"K\" and pink flowers. \"I know right now you are feeling a lot of pain inside,\" the church pastor, A'Kim Beecham, told her. \"You did a good job as a mom.\" \"You can tell by all the parents and the teachers that she had an impact on them,\" Beecham said. \"What you are going through right now, there's nothing that we can really say, but in time God will speak a word to you.\"

Never 'short' Human Nature

Beecham, Steve
2016
It's fun when a director whose movie credits include \"Anchorman\" and \"Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby\" tackles issues like cdo's - \"collateralized-debt obligations.\" Riffing off a book by Michael Lewis (\"The Blind Side,\" \"Moneyball,\" \"Liar's Poker\"), director Adam McKay makes it mostly understandable. An actress in a bubble bath defines subprime mortgages. Chef Anthony Bourdain compares some bundling of mortgages to making a stew from leftover seafood (\"It's not old fish; it's a whole new thing\"). And economics professor Richard Thaler and singer Selena Gomez equate a \"synthetic cdo\" to side-bets at a Vegas blackjack table. \"I don't put the blame on anybody. Nobody was out to try to hurt anybody,\" [Steve Beecham] told me after watching the movie. \"It basically was a bubble burst.\"

Human papillomavirus: Push for more high school students to be immunised against HPV; Health authorities have launched a new campaign aimed at getting more high school students immunised against human papillomavirus, a virus which can cause cervical and other cancers
2015
\"The figures from the Gold Coast indicate that roughly one in three or one in five people under the age of 30 carry the HPV virus, which is the wart virus, and if you have contact with the wart virus you are much more likely to develop the early stages of cervical cancer which then can progress to invasive cancer, so already seeing a 70 per cent reduction in cases of cervical cancer is a huge outcome so far,\" she said.
