Brokerage firm to appeal court award favoring B.C. client
1987
Donald J. McKinlay, lawyer for Midland Doherty Ltd., said the firm will appeal a Vancouver county court judgment awarding $62,080 to local investor Victor Thomas Baker, whose savings were virtually decimated in Midland's hands. In his written judgment, Judge Harry Boyle said Richard J. Billingsley, while employed as a broker at Midland, told civil engineer Baker that Billingsley had a high degree of training and competence in the purchase and sale of securities. He also told Baker that Midland was a full-service firm able to provide top quality service and advice and that investment selections would be suggested that would suit Baker's needs and objectives.
