The extermination of the American bison
\"When William Temple Hornaday wrote this text for the Smithsonian Institution in 1889, the thirty million buffalo that had once roamed North America had been reduced to a few hundred. Alarmed by this decimation, Hornaday - a hunter, zoologist, writer, and the Smithsonian's chief taxidermist - set out for Montana to collect specimens for preservation at the Smithsonian. One of the main results of his trip was The Extermination of the American Bison, a timely recounting of the history and destruction of the buffalo, and a landmark work in early conservation advocacy.\"--Jacket.

Necessity leads to Shoeuphoria
\"You just have to keep looking every day,\" she said. \"I work with few different suppliers, so I'm always getting them to send me the newest stuff out there. It's fun, though; it's one of those jobs where it's fun to do that kind of stuff, to stay on top.\" \"If the weather would co-operate a little better,\" she said with a laugh on Wednesday afternoon as wind whipped snow around outside. \"The first couple of weeks were great. We've had such positive comments from people coming in. So many women say, 'Thank goodness, St. Albert needed a shoe store.'\" \"It's a great space in the mall, right on the corner with all the windows,\" she said. \"It was a fairly smooth transition. ... Once the weather warms up, I've got all the new spring and summer stuff out, so I'm sure I'll have an influx of women looking for new shoes.\"
U.S. has done much good in the world
When I read Emil Bizon's rant (\"U.S. dubious 'power for good' ,\" The Journal, May 23) I concluded that either he does not know the good that is attributable to the U.S., or he does not want to know.
Busy boulevard
