Management of Change
Over the past few years, perhaps the most exciting changes to Bluebeam Revu have been the added features and changes made in the way of document management. Instead of being solely a markup tool, Revu is growing into a powerful construction document management tool. Three of the biggest additions are Digital Slip Sheeting, Bluebeam Sets, and Tags. This chapter covers the main features and capabilities of these additions. With the addition of Digital Slip Sheeting, Bluebeam simplified the revision process, freeing up the workforce by enabling the computer to manage mundane tasks, and create a quick and easy way to differentiate between new drawings and old drawings. Bluebeam Sets functionality offers the best of both worlds without introducing human errors. Tags are a unique way to store a piece of information about a PDF file by extracting that information directly from the file.
In the Field
In today's world, connecting the field to the office is a desired goal and Bluebeam has a number of features and one secret weapon, the iPad Revu app that can make significant strides to accomplish that. This chapter focuses on the iPad that has completely revolutionized the construction industry and Revu for iPad has enabled many of the great things Bluebeam users love in a tablet format that is easy to take on the go. It also focuses on the three apps for iPad: Bluebeam Vu, Bluebeam Revu, and BREAKGROUND. BREAKGROUND is an editorial‐type app that was recently introduced by Bluebeam. The remaining two apps, Vu and Revu, are Bluebeam's secret weapons, the way Bluebeam connects the office and the field. The most significant hurdle for the user is typically adjusting to the device interface. The camera integration is surely one of the most widely used tools in Revu iPad.
Go Digital, Engineering
This chapter gives a strong focus to the benefits of electronic documents and digital workflows. These benefits include measuring, sketching, comparing documents, layers, and 3D PDFs. There are two ways to set the scale in a PDF document, Define it or Calibrate it to an existing measurement. The measurement is subject to accuracy issues dependent on the size of the drawings, the accuracy of the scale, and the skill of the measurer. In Bluebeam Revu, measuring a drawing is greatly simplified. Sketching is simple in Revu, even for those who do not know any of the CAD platforms. Bluebeam created two document comparison tools, Compare Documents and Overlay Pages. Both function to illustrate the differences between two or more very similar documents. Each has a specialty and a specific use case. The chapter illustrates how to use each of the methods and offers some helpful tips to follow along the way.
Redlining
This chapter focuses on how Bluebeam is suited to redline or markup. Screen Layout of the Bluebeam consists of the command bar, the status bar, the navigation bar, toolbars, panels, tabs, and profiles. The Profile sets everything from which toolbars are displayed along the perimeter, to which panel each tab belongs to, to which tool sets are available for use. The chapter explores the ways Bluebeam Revu has made navigating simple. In Revu, the mouse enables many capabilities and features within the various markup tools. Tool Chest enables the ability to store, reuse, and share common markups. One of the more recent and advanced features of tool sets is the ability to assign a scale. The newest feature of tool sets is the ability to create a legend of the tools in a particular tool set. Also under the tool set properties menu is the Legend button.
