The Stars were Shining
Melchior opens the collection with a rather touching tribute to Covent Garden for their faith in him and constant support. It is hard to imagine a current singer speaking thus in decades to come. Pattiera, for many years the leading tenor at the Dresden Opera house, contributes the Tosca air that supplies a title for the collection. Taken from a film, this version does not compare with his 78-rpm recording but is nevertheless an interesting addition to his discography.
