The Leibniz-Des Bosses Correspondence
2007,2008
This volume is a critical edition of the ten-year correspondence (1706-1716) between Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, one of Europe's most influential early modern thinkers, and Bartholomew Des Bosses, a Jesuit theologian who was keen to bring together Leibniz's philosophy and the Aristotelian philosophy and religious doctrines accepted by his order. The letters offer crucial insights into Leibniz's final metaphysics and into the intellectual life of the eighteenth century.
Brandon C. Look and Donald Rutherford present seventy-one of Leibniz's and Des Bosses's letters in the original Latin and in careful English translation. Few of the letters have been translated into English before. The editors also provide extensive annotations, deletions, and marginalia from Leibniz's various drafts, and a substantial introduction setting the context for the correspondence and analyzing the main philosophical issues.
Heidegger und die Psychiatrie
2025
Heidegger-Jahrbuch, Band 14.

Daseinsanalysis and Boredom: dialogues between Psychology and Philosophy
The aim of this article is to think, especially from the phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective, the relationship between the attunement of boredom and the daseinsanalysis. Such a thought arises explicitly with the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, making essential the relation between phenomenology and hermeneutics. From this, the possibility of a repositioning of understanding in relation to boredom arises: a solipsist interpretation is avoided and appears an historical interpretation of certain existential disorders that in the contemporary world need renewed interpretations. Philosophy emerges as a fundamental element of the dialogue in this new understanding of the phenomenon of boredom, unfortunately not yet thematized by the main authors of Daseinsanalysis.

Post-Communist Mafia State
2016
Having won a two-third majority in Parliament at the 2010 elections, the Hungarian political party Fidesz removed many of the institutional obstacles of exerting power. Just like the party, the state itself was placed under the control of a single individual, who since then has applied the techniques used within his party to enforce submission and obedience onto society as a whole. In a new approach the author characterizes the system as the ‘organized over-world’, the ‘state employing mafia methods’ and the ’adopted political family', applying these categories not as metaphors but elements of a coherent conceptual framework. The actions of the post-communist mafia state model are closely aligned with the interests of power and wealth concentrated in the hands of a small group of insiders. While the traditional mafia channeled wealth and economic players into its spheres of influence by means of direct coercion, the mafia state does the same by means of parliamentary legislation, legal prosecution, tax authority, police forces and secret service. The innovative conceptual framework of the book is important and timely not only for Hungary, but also for other post-communist countries subjected to autocratic rules.
What your boss really wants from you : 15 insights to improve your relationship
\" Every group that executive coach Steve Arneson speaks to has the same question: what does my boss want? Even a good boss can be hard to read, but many people have difficult bosses. Many bosses aren't clear about their expectations, act in seemingly inexplicable ways, and suggest motives that appear to have nothing to do with helping you achieve your career goals. Arneson says the hard truth is that any efforts to improve, fix, or convert your boss won't work. The secret is to figure out what makes her tick and change your own approach to working with her. The book is divided into three sections and built around fifteen questions--ten to ask about your boss and five to ask about yourself. It begins by showing you how you can study your boss to gain an understanding of what drives his behavior--work style, leadership brand, and motives. Once you understand this, you can consider how your boss sees you. Studying your boss is important, but you also have to look at yourself from her perspective. Finally, you need to take responsibility for the relationship. In this section, you'll find practical suggestions for using what you've learned to change your interactions with your boss and tips for getting the relationship back on track. Arneson includes vivid real-world examples to show how he and his clients have put his advice into practice to gain more meaningful, productive, and enjoyable work lives\"-- Provided by publisher.
Maid for Television
2023
Honorable Mention -- Association for Asian American Studies Book Award in the Media, Performance, and Visual Studies category Maid for Television examines race, class, and gender relations as embodied in a long history of television servants from 1950 to the turn of the millennium. Although they reside at the visual peripheries, these figures are integral to the idealized American family. Author L. S. Kim redirects viewers' gaze towards the usually overlooked interface between characters, which is drawn through race, class, and gender positioning. Maid for Television tells the stories of servants and the families they work for, in so doing it investigates how Americans have dealt with difference through television as a medium and a mediator. The book philosophically redirects the gaze of television and its projection of racial discourse.
