Looking Back to See
2011,2005,2010
A vocal group without peer, The Browns were central artists in the changing sound of country and American popular music at mid-century. They were part of major changes in the entertainment business and American culture, participated in the folk music movement in the '60's, and saw the steady birth of rock 'n' roll up close as they worked with Presley and others. Illustrated with many never-before-published photographs, Looking Back to See is a remarkable story told here for the first time.
The Lives of the Browns
2007
The Browns were an American family singing group from Tulip Creek, Arkansas made up of Jim Ed Brown and his sisters, Maxine Brown and Bonnie Brown. Being country music singers, they sang individually at rural venues until 1954 when Maxine Brown, and younger brother Jim Ed, signed a record contract as a singing duo while eighteen-year-old Bonnie joined the group in 1955, recording several songs that met with only modest success until 1959, and when their 45 rpm folk single called \"The Three Bells\" was a number one hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 pop music and country music charts. With an international following, Bass details the rise and fall of the Browns which toured Europe extensively, recorded further moderate successes on the country music charts and the risk of travel going to and from the venues of their performances.

My bestie is 'coming out' about her gift
by
Weir, Laurie
in
Brown, Maxine
2015
Maxine Brown is a medium. I've hinted of her in this column and about her abilities. I've never 'outed' her per se. It wasn't my story to tell. I had lost a pocket watch that he gave me before he died. Maxine helped me locate it. \"It's in a dark corner of your basement,\" she had told me. \"It's fallen down off a bench or shelf.\" It's great to have a bestie with this talent - yes, I've used her on occasion. She has let me though. I will often ask her \"vibe\" on something troubling me. Other than that, I don't hound her... much.
