Yukon bishop faces discipline
2003
Archbishop Crawley, as senior bishop in British Columbia and the Yukon, is Bishop Buckle's supervisor. In his message, he noted that the bishop of New Westminster, Michael Ingham, had inhibited Bishop Buckle from functioning within the diocese of New Westminster and \"I... have required Bishop Buckle to respect that inhibition.\" Bishop Buckle's lawyer, Stanley Martin, said that no formal charge has been filed against his client. Archbishop Crawley, in an interview, acknowledged that no written charge had yet been laid against Bishop Buckle but that \"they know perfectly well what (the charges) are.\" The procedural problem, he said, is that \"General Synod canons and our provincial canons don't exactly jibe on (the disciplining of a bishop).\" Under the General Synod canons, he said, \"we could proceed by me having a hearing and making a decision. It would no doubt be appealed and the appeal would have to be heard by the provincial court of appeal.\" In a separate development, Bishop Ingham on Oct. 15 sent a letter to clergy saying that he has convened a commission to investigate several New Westminster clergy for alleged \"disobedient and disrespectful conduct.\" The commission will make recommendations to the bishop on further action. Bishop Ingham's letter, which did not identify the clergy involved, said the allegations of misconduct have to do with \"a repudiation of the authority of diocesan synod and of vows made to the diocesan bishop.\"

2003
Primates Bernard Malango of Central Africa and Kunnumpurathu Samuel of South India commissioned Bishop Terrence Buckle of the Yukon \"to provide pastoral oversight to those parishes,\" according to Mr. Hawley. Anglican bishops do not have jurisdiction in other dioceses and Bishop Ingham has served notice that Bishop Buckle is inhibited from performing priestly duties in New Westminster, which is based in Vancouver. Bishop Buckle is currently facing disciplinary action from Archbishop David Crawley, metropolitan, or senior bishop, of the ecclesiastical province of British Columbia and the Yukon. Bishop Ingham appointed three parishioners, two of whom were existing wardens, as bishop's wardens to bring \"stability and normalcy\" to the parish. A letter detailing his actions was sent to the church and parishioners on Sept. 5. On Saturday, Sept. 6, the diocese's business administrator, Mike Wellwood, went to St. Martin's with a locksmith. \"We went there to change the locks so we could have access control after the Sunday announcement,\" he said in an interview. St. Martin's refused to co-operate with the diocese in the search for a new priest because the parish does not recognize Bishop Ingham's authority, since he approved the same-sex blessing vote at last year's synod, said Mr. Burns.
