Professional training agreement development for undergraduate environmental health internships required by EHAC-accredited program
Presented here is the development of a PTA document with contents that have been derived from surveyed internship providers and interns from government agencies, industry, academia, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Since 2007, 151 University of Georgia (UGA) undergraduates in the bachelor of science in environmental health (BSEH) program have completed internships with a variety of providers, the majority of which (54) were at UGA (Figure 1). Four students completed international internships. Because of these diverse experiences, creating a unified checklist that would benefit each was established using a survey of internship providers from 2010 to 2013 that ranked a list of potential points of discussion (see PTA web hnk at the end of this column).

Amy Dell's VRG Intern Experience: Creating a Vegan World
Seeing the children get excited about VRG's I Love Animals and Broccoli coloring book was adorable, and made me want to work with kids. Cooking in quantity made it easy to prepare a large number of casseroles, because we chopped large amounts of the same ingredients instead of different things. The most influential project of my internship was when I worked with VRG's Nutrition Advisor, Reed Mangels, PhD, RD, on a piece for the Scientific Update column in Vegetarian Journal.
Participating in a Technical Communication Internship
Although the benefits of internships seem clear, the path to participating in a successful technical communication internship experience is not always clear, and advice is scattered across many articles and Web sites. If you are a current student or a practitioner who is considering a return to school, you might have questions about finding internship opportunities, evaluating your options, and getting the most out of the experience. If you are a new internship coordinator, you might wonder how to manage 30-50 separate internships over the course of a semester. If you are an employer, you might have questions about how to establish an effective internship program at your company. Because an internship is a three-way partnership, this tutorial is divided into three sections providing advice to the major participants in this collaborative partnership: students, internship coordinators, and agency sponsors.
Effect of Interns' Learning Willingness on Mentors' Knowledge-sharing Behavior
We examined the effect of interns' learning willingness on the mentors' knowledge-sharing behavior, and examined organizational incentives and mentors' personality traits of openness and conscientiousness as moderators in this relationship. Participants were 180 mentor-intern dyads at 10 teaching hospitals in China. We found that interns' willingness to learn had a significant positive effect on the knowledge-sharing behavior of mentors. The effect of organizational incentives on this relationship was dependent on the mentor's personality, such that when mentors were low in either openness or conscientiousness, organizational incentives strengthened the relationship. Theoretical and managerial implications and directions for further research are discussed.
