Novato man charged in alleged machete attack

After additional investigation, police identified the suspect as Christopher Butler, 23, said Novato police Sgt. Jay Demski. Butler was arrested after a traffic stop Monday night on Hamilton Parkway. Police recovered the suspected machete from Butler's vehicle, Demski said.

[Christopher Butler] is already out on $900,000 bail in Contra Costa County, whose prosecutors earlier this year were the first to charge him and former Central Contra Costa Narcotics Enforcement Team commander Norman Wielsch with conspiring to sell stolen drug evidence and other crimes. Wielsch, a 50-year-old Antioch resident, was indicted federally with Butler and is scheduled to appear before a federal judge Monday.

About 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Claremont and West Covina police officers searched a residence in the 1000 block of South Orange in West Covina where they believed counterfeit money was being made. \"This office receives 20 (thousand) to 30,000 in counterfeit bills a week,\" said Christopher Butler, resident agent in charge. \"Fifty to 75 percent of those are bleached $5 dollar bills.\" \"When you look at the watermark, it should be Ben Franklin looking back at you, not Abraham Lincoln,\" Butler said.
