VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
Congratulations, South Bend! You have chosen Pete Buttegieg to be the standard bearer for the Democrats in the November general election. I am a proud Republican. Until I crossed over to vote for Pete, I had never cast a ballot for a Democrat in my life. I hope that the day comes when we will have outstanding men like Pete running for local office on both sides of the aisle. Unfortunately, this is not the case here in South Bend, which is a one-party town and which does not bode well for the democratic process here. To get the best and brightest, both parties need to know that they have a real shot at winning in November. Some may say that they don't vote Republican because the candidates are not as good as on the Democratic side. I would remind those Democrats that in a city that hasn't had a Republican mayor in more than four decades, the current political situation here is not amenable to the best and brightest running in the Republican camp. We should vote for the man, not the party. This is what I did on May 3.
