Towards a Sustainable Cultural Identity for Arabic Calligraphy in Furniture Design Through Artificial Intelligence Applications
Sustainability is a modern design philosophy, and this concept prompted this study to focus on the possibility of achieving sustainability principles practically by using artificial intelligence techniques to create sustainable contemporary furniture elements inspired by the heritage and arts of Arabic calligraphy. Heritage-inspired design has cultural meaning and significance as a type of sustainable thinking. Arabic calligraphy has multiple forms and the possibility of adapting it, in addition to its role in enriching the cultural and creative stock. This study aimed to benefit from Arabic calligraphy as a source to enrich and sustain furniture design that is characterized by authenticity and modernity, and to preserve a heritage design product by reformulating it using artificial intelligence methods. In a way that enhances belonging and preserves the community’s heritage and values from extinction, this study followed the descriptive analytical approach in identifying the origins and characteristics of Arabic calligraphy, analyzing its vocabulary, reformulating it, and drawing inspiration from it to enrich furniture designs, in addition to the experimental approach in the applied study through the use of different techniques and materials. The results of this study concluded that there are various aesthetic values in the use of Arabic calligraphy that can be used to create contemporary furniture designs using artificial intelligence techniques to preserve its sustainability. In addition to opening up broad possibilities for creativity and innovation by integrating Arabic calligraphy into furniture design using artificial intelligence technology, this study recommended the need to pay attention to studying the sustainability of heritage and arts in general in appreciation of art and its preservation.

The Role of Arabic Calligraphy in Displaying the Aesthetics of Linear Configurations in the Kiswah of Kaaba
The Kiswah of the Kaaba, in the Saudi era, is adorned with Arabic calligraphy, executed in the complex Thuluth calligraphy. These calligraphic formations are compatible with the aesthetic and spiritual function of the Kiswah of Kaaba. In addition, the contribution of these formations and Arabic calligraphy creates formative elements of a distinctive aesthetic nature that glorifies the kiswah with a special kind of spiritual beauty associated with the writing of Qur’ānic verses. Arabic calligraphy, especially the Thuluth script, is one of the essential Arabic fonts that express the aesthetic values of Arabic calligraphy in the covering of the Kaaba. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the role of Arabic calligraphy and the characteristics of the Thuluth line, which have enhanced in highlighting the aesthetics of the linear formations of the Kiswah. The study also aims to discuss the aesthetic features and patterns that characterize the linear formations. The method used in this study is the content analysis method, bearing in mind that the primary tool used is inference based on observation. The study concluded that the Thuluth font possesses several aesthetic and technical characteristics compared to the rest of the other Arabic fonts. Moreover, these technical characteristics gave this line an evident prominence in decorating and beautifying the covering of the Kaaba with the appearance of the single letter in several bodies through the morphological diversity of the character drawing. Undermining the Familiar and Embodiment Content in Arabic Calligraphy
Contrary to deconstruction and its destructive pursuit, the concept of undermining the familiar seeks to refute the constants and its known limitations. It is done through the process of receiving and what is imposed by the formation of the word or text or the structural and design structure in general, along with the Arabic calligraphy in particular. This is based on the recipient's understanding and interpretation of the dual phenomenon and the content's manifestation. More accurately, the disclosure of its reality through its expressive phenomenology; for that sake, the research was devoted to studying “undermining the familiar and embodiment content in Arabic calligraphy” including four chapters. The first chapter comprised the methodological introduction, the second chapter dealt with the concept of undermining the familiar and its representations in Arabic calligraphy, and to embodiment the content along with its use in Arabic calligraphy. While, the third chapter represented the research procedures and the community reached (32) compositions, in which the analysis concluded several results. The fourth chapter clarified the most important concept. The sample calligraphers were able to focus on the design relationships of the theoretical framework. The current study acquainted with undermining the familiar and embodiment of the content for those concerned and interested in the art of Arabic calligraphy, it also focused to benefit from the energies of letters and their constructive movements in building, modernizing, and renewing the arts of Arabic calligraphy. Moreover, the research also suggested studying the design treatments in order to embody the content in the formations of Arabic calligraphy.

ASM Based Synthesis of Handwritten Arabic Text Pages
Document analysis tasks, as text recognition, word spotting, or segmentation, are highly dependent on comprehensive and suitable databases for training and validation. However their generation is expensive in sense of labor and time. As a matter of fact, there is a lack of such databases, which complicates research and development. This is especially true for the case of Arabic handwriting recognition, that involves different preprocessing, segmentation, and recognition methods, which have individual demands on samples and ground truth. To bypass this problem, we present an efficient system that automatically turns Arabic Unicode text into synthetic images of handwritten documents and detailed ground truth. Active Shape Models (ASMs) based on 28046 online samples were used for character synthesis and statistical properties were extracted from the IESK-arDB database to simulate baselines and word slant or skew. In the synthesis step ASM based representations are composed to words and text pages, smoothed by B-Spline interpolation and rendered considering writing speed and pen characteristics. Finally, we use the synthetic data to validate a segmentation method. An experimental comparison with the IESK-arDB database encourages to train and test document analysis related methods on synthetic samples, whenever no sufficient natural ground truthed data is available.
