Observations of badgers in the Burren, Co. Clare
2023
Camera traps were employed to survey and monitor badger setts in the Burren region. A total of six setts were discovered and documented, with camera traps strategically positioned near four of them. In one case, a camera trap was placed between two setts. However, it was observed that badger occupancy was sporadic and infrequent at these setts. In addition to badgers, the camera traps also recorded the presence of red foxes, pine martens, and various small mammals. The process of locating these setts proved challenging due to the absence of clear paths and the presence of substantial spoil heaps, which are accumulations of discarded earth or debris. These difficulties in pinpointing badger setts may pose a hindrance to the capture of badgers for vaccination purposes, potentially impacting efforts to eradicate bovine tuberculosis in the region.

Journeys in the wild : the secret life of a cameraman
From Gavin Thurston, the award-winning Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II cameraman with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough comes extraordinary and adventurous true stories of what it takes to track down and film our planet's most captivating creatures. Gavin has been a wildlife photographer for over thirty years. Against a backdrop of modern world history, he's lurked in the shadows of some of the world's remotest places in order to capture footage of the animal kingdom's finest: prides of lions, silverback gorillas, capuchin monkeys, brown bears, grey whales, penguins, mosquitoes - you name it he's filmed it. From journeys to the deepest depths of the Antarctic Ocean and the wide expanse of the Saharan deserts, to the peaks of the Himalayas and the wild forests of the Congo, Gavin's experiences describe much more than just the incredible array of animals he's filmed. He invites you to come inside the cameraman's hidden world and discover the hours spent patiently waiting for the protagonists to appear; the inevitable dangers in the wings and the challenges faced and overcome; and the heart-warming, life-affirming moments the cameras miss as well as capture.
Kentucky Renaissance : the Lexington Camera Club and its community, 1954-1974
\"Dozens of American cities witnessed the founding of camera clubs in the first half of the 20th century, though few boasted as many accomplished artists as the one based in Lexington, Kentucky. This pioneering book provides the most absorbing account to date of the Lexington Camera Club, an under-studied group of artists whose ranks included Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Van Deren Coke, Robert C. May, James Baker Hall, and Cranston Ritchie. These and other members of the Lexington Camera Club explored the craft and expressive potential of photography. They captured Kentucky's dramatic natural landscape and experimented widely with different techniques, including creating double and multiple exposures or shooting deliberately out-of-focus images. In addition to compiling images by these photographers, this book examines their relationships with writers, publishers, and printmakers based in Kentucky at the time, such as Wendell Berry, Guy Davenport, Jonathan Greene, and Thomas Merton. Moreover, the publication seeks to highlight the unique contributions that the Lexington Camera Club made to 20th-century photography, thus broadening a narrative of modern art that has long focused on New York and Chicago. Featuring a wealth of new scholarship, this fascinating catalogue asserts the importance and artistic achievement of these often overlooked photographers and their circle\"-- Provided by publisher.

This paper proposes a near-central camera model and its solution approach. ’Near-central’ refers to cases in which the rays do not converge to a point and do not have severely arbitrary directions (non-central cases). Conventional calibration methods are difficult to apply in such cases. Although the generalized camera model can be applied, dense observation points are required for accurate calibration. Moreover, this approach is computationally expensive in the iterative projection framework. We developed a noniterative ray correction method based on sparse observation points to address this problem. First, we established a smoothed three-dimensional (3D) residual framework using a backbone to avoid using the iterative framework. Second, we interpolated the residual by applying local inverse distance weighting on the nearest neighbor of a given point. Specifically, we prevented excessive computation and the deterioration in accuracy that may occur in inverse projection through the 3D smoothed residual vectors. Moreover, the 3D vectors can represent the ray directions more accurately than the 2D entities. Synthetic experiments show that the proposed method can achieve prompt and accurate calibration. The depth error is reduced by approximately 63% in the bumpy shield dataset, and the proposed approach is noted to be two digits faster than the iterative methods.

Design and Implementation of Doorcam in Home System using Raspberry Pi
by

Cameras
2020
This paper discusses how to develop a doorcam system that is implemented at home at an affordable price. The system was built using a Mini PC Raspberry Pi, and a Pi camera to obtain an affordable price for the doorcam system implementation. The results of tests that have been carried out were the system had succeeded in notifying the homeowner when there were guests who were visiting the house. The system will send a notification message and display the image captured by Pi camera via the Telegram application when the guest press bell button. The system worked with delay below 5 seconds. This system can work well when done during the daytime, because the Pi camera used is not equipped with lights, so the captured images that are sent cannot show guests coming to visit in front of the house.
