The U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) was formed in response to the failed rescue attempt in 1980 of American hostages held by Iran. Among its key responsibilities, SOCOM plans and synchronizes operations against terrorist networks. Special operations forces (SOF) often operate alone in austere environments with only the items they can carry, which makes equipment size, weight, and power needs especially important. Specialized radios and supporting equipment must be carried by the teams for their radio-frequency (RF) operations. As warfighting demands on SOCOM have intensified, SOCOM's needs for significantly improved radio-frequency (RF) systems have increased.
Toward a Universal Radio Frequency System for Special Operations Forces examines the current state of the art for both handheld and manpackable platform-mounted RF systems, and determines which frequencies could be provided by handheld systems. The book also explores whether or not a system that fulfills SOF's unique requirements could be deployed in a reasonable time period. Several recommendations are included to address these and other issues.

First centre fuselage for Tejas Mk.1A handed over to HAL The first centre fuselage assembly for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk.1A was handed over to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) by VEM Technologies in Hyderabad on 30 May 2025. Later, BEL secured additional orders worth Rs.537 crores that included communication equipment, advanced composite communication system for ship, Jammers, software, simulator upgrades, spares, test rigs, services etc. DRDO ToT for Nibe In an effort to enhance the industrial base in development and manufacturing of indigenous defence equipment, Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), DRDO signed a licensing agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) of Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) and Battery Command Post (BCP) with NIBE Limited, Pune. The technologies transferred to the industry are Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicle (Tracked) Mk-II, Mounted Gun System, Anti-Terrorist Vehicle - Tracked Version, Full Trailer of 70t Tank Transporter for Main Battle Tank (МВТ) Arjun Mk1A, Expandable Mobile Shelter, Vajra-Riot Control Vehicle, Unit Maintenance Vehicle for MBT Arjun, Unit Repair Vehicle for MBT Arjun and Multi-Purpose Decontamination System. 13 contracts awarded under EP In a move to strengthen the Indian Army's operational readiness in counter-terrorism operations, the MoD has concluded 13 contracts under the Emergency Procurement mechanism worth Rs. 1,982 crore.

Strong Defense Outlook Offers Continued Growth for RF Technologies

A need to counter both resurging conventional threats from near-peers, coupled with ongoing asymmetric wars against non-state or pseudo-state actors, will drive military equipment and capability and support procurement opportunities for the defense industry supply chain to a forecast of $827 billion, part of the projected $2.58 trillion global defense budget in 2027 (see Figure 1). Strategy Analytics Advanced Defense Systems service's forecasts for the global military radar market, covering expenditure as well as system shipments across the land, air, sea and space domains, projects the global military radar market will grow at a compound average annual growth rate (CAAGR) of 4.6 percent over the 2017 to 2027 timeframe to be worth over $21.5 billion. Strategy Analytics also predicts: * North America will continue to represent the largest regional end market, but the fastest growth will come from demand in the Asia-Pacific region (see Figure 3). * Airborne radar will represent the largest market, both in dollars and total shipments. * Early warning, surveillance and fire control radars will account for around 76 percent of the global military radar market. * L-, S- and С-Band will represent the largest market, followed by radars operating at X-Dand, which reflect llie primary frequencies used by surveillance, early warning and fire control radars. * The total number of radar shipments is forecast to grow at a CAAGR of 4.6 percent through 2027 to reach 1,607 units. Strategy Analytics forecasts spending on global military communications systems and services will grow to over $36.7 billion in 2026, a compound annual growth rate of 3.5 percent (see Figure 5).
