A survey of depth and inertial sensor fusion for human action recognition
2017
A number of review or survey articles have previously appeared on human action recognition where either vision sensors or inertial sensors are used individually. Considering that each sensor modality has its own limitations, in a number of previously published papers, it has been shown that the fusion of vision and inertial sensor data improves the accuracy of recognition. This survey article provides an overview of the recent investigations where both vision and inertial sensors are used together and simultaneously to perform human action recognition more effectively. The thrust of this survey is on the utilization of depth cameras and inertial sensors as these two types of sensors are cost-effective, commercially available, and more significantly they both provide 3D human action data. An overview of the components necessary to achieve fusion of data from depth and inertial sensors is provided. In addition, a review of the publicly available datasets that include depth and inertial data which are simultaneously captured via depth and inertial sensors is presented.

2015
A meta-analysis was conducted on the effects of technology-enhanced stories for young children's literacy development when compared to listening to stories in more traditional settings like storybook reading. A small but significant additional benefit of technology was found for story comprehension (g+ = 0.17) and expressive vocabulary (g+ = 0.20), based on data from 2,147 children in 43 studies. When investigating the different characteristics of technology-enhanced stories, multimedia features like animated pictures, music, and sound effects were found beneficial. In contrast, interactive elements like hotspots, games, and dictionaries were found to be distracting. Especially for children disadvantaged because of less stimulating family environments, multimedia features were helpful and interactive features were detrimental. Findings are discussed from the perspective of cognitive processing theories.

2020
The use of mobile applications (apps) has been growing in the world of technology, a phenomenon related to the increasing number of smartphone users. Even though the mobile apps market is huge, few studies have been made on what makes individuals continue to use a mobile app or stop using it. This study aims to uncover the factors that underlie the continuance intention to use mobile apps, addressing two theoretical models: Expectation confirmation model (ECM) and the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2). A total of 304 questionnaires were collected by survey to test the theoretical framework proposal, using structural equation modelling (SEM). Our findings indicate that the most important drivers of continuance intention of mobile apps are satisfaction, habit, performance expectancy, and effort expectancy.

A novel bit-level color image encryption using improved 1D chaotic map
2019
This paper introduces new simple and effective improved one-dimension(1D) Logistic map and Sine map made by the output sequences of two same existing 1D chaotic maps. The comparison analysis of the proposed improved 1D chaotic map and previous 1D chaotic map confirmed the accuracy of the improved chaotic map. To investigate the applications of the improved chaotic system in image encryption, a novel bit-level image encryption system is proposed. Experiments and analysis prove that the improved chaotic map and the algorithm has an excellent performance in image encryption and various attacks.
