Hacking web apps : detecting and preventing web application security problems
How can an information security professional keep up with all of the hacks, attacks, and exploits on the Web? One way is to read Hacking Web Apps. The content for this book has been selected by author Mike Shema to make sure that we are covering the most vicious attacks out there. Not only does Mike let you in on the anatomy of these attacks, but he also tells you how to get rid of these worms, trojans, and botnets and how to defend against them in the future. Countermeasures are detailed so that you can fight against similar attacks as they evolve. Attacks featured in this book include: . SQL Injection . Cross Site Scripting . Logic Attacks . Server Misconfigurations . Predictable Pages . Web of Distrust . Breaking Authentication Schemes . HTML5 Security Breaches . Attacks on Mobile Apps Even if you don't develop web sites or write HTML, Hacking Web Apps can still help you learn how sites are attacked-as well as the best way to defend against these attacks. Plus, Hacking Web Apps gives you detailed steps to make the web browser - sometimes your last line of defense - more secure. More and more data, from finances to photos, is moving into web applications. How much can you trust that data to be accessible from a web browser anywhere and safe at the same time? Some of the most damaging hacks to a web site can be executed with nothing more than a web browser and a little knowledge of HTML. Learn about the most common threats and how to stop them, including HTML Injection, XSS, Cross Site Request Forgery, SQL Injection, Breaking Authentication Schemes, Logic Attacks, Web of Distrust, Browser Hacks and many more.
Network Anomaly Detection
This book discusses the detection of anomalies in computer networks from a machine learning perspective. It examines how computer networks work and how they can be attacked by intruders in search of fame, fortune, or challenge. You'll learn how to look for patterns in captured network traffic data to unearth potential intrusion attempts. Coverage includes machine learning techniques and algorithms, a taxonomy of attacks, and practical tools for launching attacks, capturing packet or flow traffic, extracting features, detecting attacks, and evaluating performance.
The browser hacker's handbook
Hackers exploit browser vulnerabilities to attack deep within networksThe Browser Hacker's Handbook gives a practical understanding of hacking the everyday web browser and using it as a beachhead to launch further attacks deep into corporate networks. Written by a team of highly experienced computer security experts, the handbook provides hands-on tutorials exploring a range of current attack methods. The web browser has become the most popular and widely used computer \"program\" in the world. As the gateway to the Internet, it is part of the storefront to any business that operates online, but it is also one of the most vulnerable entry points of any system. With attacks on the rise, companies are increasingly employing browser-hardening techniques to protect the unique vulnerabilities inherent in all currently used browsers. The Browser Hacker's Handbook thoroughly covers complex security issues and explores relevant topics such as:Bypassing the Same Origin PolicyARP spoofing, social engineering, and phishing to access browsersDNS tunneling, attacking web applications, and proxying—all from the browserExploiting the browser and its ecosystem (plugins and extensions)Cross-origin attacks, including Inter-protocol Communication and ExploitationThe Browser Hacker's Handbook is written with a professional security engagement in mind. Leveraging browsers as pivot points into a target's network should form an integral component into any social engineering or red-team security assessment. This handbook provides a complete methodology to understand and structure your next browser penetration test.
A Comprehensive Review of Cyber Security Vulnerabilities, Threats, Attacks, and Solutions
Internet usage has grown exponentially, with individuals and companies performing multiple daily transactions in cyberspace rather than in the real world. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has accelerated this process. As a result of the widespread usage of the digital environment, traditional crimes have also shifted to the digital space. Emerging technologies such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), social media, wireless communication, and cryptocurrencies are raising security concerns in cyberspace. Recently, cyber criminals have started to use cyber attacks as a service to automate attacks and leverage their impact. Attackers exploit vulnerabilities that exist in hardware, software, and communication layers. Various types of cyber attacks include distributed denial of service (DDoS), phishing, man-in-the-middle, password, remote, privilege escalation, and malware. Due to new-generation attacks and evasion techniques, traditional protection systems such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, access control lists, etc., are no longer effective in detecting these sophisticated attacks. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find innovative and more feasible solutions to prevent cyber attacks. The paper first extensively explains the main reasons for cyber attacks. Then, it reviews the most recent attacks, attack patterns, and detection techniques. Thirdly, the article discusses contemporary technical and nontechnical solutions for recognizing attacks in advance. Using trending technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, cloud platforms, big data, and blockchain can be a promising solution for current and future cyber attacks. These technological solutions may assist in detecting malware, intrusion detection, spam identification, DNS attack classification, fraud detection, recognizing hidden channels, and distinguishing advanced persistent threats. However, some promising solutions, especially machine learning and deep learning, are not resistant to evasion techniques, which must be considered when proposing solutions against intelligent cyber attacks.
Mobilizing the C-Suite
Cyberattacks are more destructive than ever, but your C-suite can stop them. This book tells you how. Cyberattacks are worse now than ever before. To defeat cybercriminals, companies must focus on the low-hanging fruits of cybersecurity. It's all about the basics. Companies laid low by ransomware failed to practice good cyber hygiene by recklessly allowing weak or reused passwords, not turning on multifactor authentication, or neglecting to install patches to known software vulnerabilities. Adding insult to grievous injury, many companies failed to mitigate cyber doom by not encrypting their devices, not implementing a data backup plan, or the mother of all blunders, not training their workforce on basic cyber hygiene. Worse still, hidden risks abound for the unwary. A devastating cyberattack is just moments away when C-suite leaders close their eyes to the hazards of shadow IT, data offshoring, mobile devices, and social media. Mobilizing the C-suite: Waging War Against Cyberattacks was written to galvanize C-suite leaders into deploying the basic cybersecurity controls vital to defeating cyberattacks, and to support frontline cybersecurity professionals with companywide cyber hygiene training. Most importantly, the book was written to introduce real-world cybersecurity principles to college students—if our future generation of company leaders enter the C-suite with cyber-savvy, then destructive cyberattacks are not a foregone conclusion.
