Union City celebrates progress on BART transit hub development
\"We've been waiting for this day for a long time,\" Mayor Mark Green said, noting that the city's first discussions on the project go back to the late 1980s. \"It's taken waves after waves after waves of people to get this done.\" \"That connection really needs to happen,\" [Larry Cheeves] said. \"This project has a strong affordable housing component, so it's important that the people who need BART to get to work will have this access, which will make it so much more convenient to get to.\" A pedestrian pushes a stroller across 11th Street to the new Station Center affordable housing complex on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 in Union City, Calif. Senator Dutton recognizes six area businesses
While learning about quality assurance/quality control at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Van Nuys and majoring in biology at Cal State San Bernardino, [Ben Cook] fell in love with beer and its culture. Wanting to learn more, he attended and graduated from the Master Brewers Program under Professor Emeritus Michael Lewis and Charles Bamforth at the UC Davis. Following graduation Cook sought out and found the perfect brewing equipment, a great location adjacent to the Redlands Airport and aptly named his brewery Hangar 24.

Barristers' anger as CPS prefers cut-price solicitors ; LEGAL ANALYSIS
\"The civil side of the Bar is thriving.\" Indeed so. \"Work comes in different ways these days but touch wood we have plenty of it,\" says Julia Hornor of Blackstone Chambers. \"The juniors here are very busy and some of our Silks are almost completely booked up to Easter,\" adds Michael Kaplan of 4-5 Gray's Inn Square. BUT barristers who act mainly for defendants are very gloomy. \"It's awful,\" says Colin Cook, senior clerk at Garden Court Chambers. \"The general public don't even know what's going on. And it's going to get worse.\" He complains that the CPS is doing more work in-house to meet its financial targets. \"They're recruiting would-be lawyers who couldn't make it at the Bar,\" Cook says bluntly. \"We have seen a substantial fallingaway,\" he continues. \"I have to work harder than I have ever had to in order to find new work. Juniors in all sets of chambers are now suffering.\" Sally O'Neill QC, chairman of the Criminal Bar Association, confirms the reduction in the work available to the independent criminal bar over the past two years.
HISTORY REVEALS ITSELF DEPUTY BARBARA COOK PIECES TOGETHER HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF JAMES CITY COUNTY
She undertook the project in January 1994, thinking she would present it to Sheriff Walter Dutton for his birthday that year. [BARBARA COOK] and Dutton share the same birthday - Nov. 24. However, as she gathered information on former sheriffs, Cook found the task more involved and time-consuming than she'd ever imagined. One of the most interesting stories she has run across concerns the 1916 three-way race for sheriff, between incumbent Sheriff Walker Ware, E. Meanly and Louis Trice. Meanly won by popular vote and Trice was second. However, after the election, Meanly, known for his \"hot\" temper, was approached by a man named Martin who asked how the sheriff-elect expected to arrest someone for losing his temper and getting into a fight when he couldn't control his own. After that encounter, Meanly declined to post the necessary bond, giving Trice the position by default. Trice served as sheriff for 28 years until his death in 1944.
