Integrating business and market intelligence to expedite service responsiveness: evidence from Malaysia
In today’s business world, Malaysian postal and courier companies are rapidly growing due to recent Covid-19 but they face various challenges due to intense competition in the use of high-tech e-services. The paper examines the role of business and market intelligence in expediting service innovation and responsiveness in Malaysia, which is considered the business hub of Asia. Primary survey data were collected from the 93 managerial staff of postal and courier companies in Malaysia. We employed PLS-SEM methodology to test the relationship between the selected variables of interest. The results indicate that market intelligence and business intelligence are the major contributors to service innovation and service responsiveness. Moreover, the role of knowledge management is crucial in better utilization of external and internal knowledge. Finally, this study provides practical guidelines to practitioners and policymakers of postal and courier companies to devise viable strategies for efficiently realizing service innovation and service responsiveness to the best satisfaction of the end customers.

Online Resource Allocation with Limited Flexibility
We consider a class of online resource-allocation problems in which there are n types of resources with limited initial inventory and n demand classes. The resources are flexible in that each type of resource can serve more than one demand class. In this paper, we focus on a special class of structures with limited flexibility, the long-chain design, which was proposed by Jordan and Graves [Jordan WC, Graves SC (1995) Principles on the benefits of manufacturing process flexibility. Management Sci. 41(4)577-594.] and has been an important concept in the design of sparse flexible processes. We study the long-chain design in an online stochastic environment in which the requests are drawn repeatedly and independently from a nonstationary probability distribution over the different demand classes. Also, the decision on how to address each request must be made immediately upon its arrival. We show the effectiveness of the long-chain design in mitigating supply-demand mismatch under a simple myopic online allocation policy. In particular, we provide an upper bound on the expected total number of lost sales that is irrespective of how large the market size is.
Multi-stakeholder perspective of courier service quality in B2C e-commerce
Under conditions of the rapidly developing e-commerce sector especially during pandemic, ensuring high quality of courier service is essential both for clients, as well as courier companies. However, the literature lacks research linking the perspective of clients and organization in the context of courier service quality. The study aims to identify the factors determining courier service quality, their functions and interrelationships in business-to-customer (B2C) e-commerce. The main effect of research is the relational model, which is an original and complex approach to courier service quality considering the multi-stakeholder perspective of an online shop, a courier company and an e-customer. Apart from scientific contribution, the model can be used into managerial practice to formulate the recommendations for e-commerce and courier service sector. The research process involved using the quantitative method (electronic surveys conducted among e-shops and e-clients) and the qualitative method (in-depth-interviews carried out among courier enterprises). Finally, based on the empirical research results, the structural analysis was used to develop the model. As a result, the following groups of factors were distinguished that determine the quality of courier services: crucial, determinant, result, autonomous and external factors.
Unbearably sad: Pandas take to the sky, depart Washington
This is the day no one in Washington wanted. The three beloved pandas at the Smithsonian's National Zoo departed for China at the end of a lease with that nation. The animals will travel in the cargo hold of a FedEx plane for some 19 hours, with lots of bamboo, treats and water.
Targeted Microbubbles for Drug, Gene, and Cell Delivery in Therapy and Immunotherapy
Microbubbles are 1–10 μm diameter gas-filled acoustically-active particles, typically stabilized by a phospholipid monolayer shell. Microbubbles can be engineered through bioconjugation of a ligand, drug and/or cell. Since their inception a few decades ago, several targeted microbubble (tMB) formulations have been developed as ultrasound imaging probes and ultrasound-responsive carriers to promote the local delivery and uptake of a wide variety of drugs, genes, and cells in different therapeutic applications. The aim of this review is to summarize the state-of-the-art of current tMB formulations and their ultrasound-targeted delivery applications. We provide an overview of different carriers used to increase drug loading capacity and different targeting strategies that can be used to enhance local delivery, potentiate therapeutic efficacy, and minimize side effects. Additionally, future directions are proposed to improve the tMB performance in diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

Analysis of increased motorcycle accidents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a single-center study from Turkiye/COVID-19 pandemisi sirasinda artan motosiklet kazalarinin analizi: Turkiye'den tek merkezli bir calisma
BACKGROUND: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a unique set of circumstances, straining healthcare systems and affecting the way of life in societies around the world. Measures such as social isolation, travel restrictions, and workplace closures have led to an increase in motorcycle use. Consequently, motorcycle accidents have become a significant problem during this period. This study presents detailed research conducted to examine motorcycle accidents during the COVID-19 pandemic and to understand the causes and consequences of the increase in these accidents. METHODS: Th is research evaluated records from a single health examination and used various models to analyze motorcycle accidents within a specified time period. Additionally, retrospective analyses were conducted to examine associations between motorcycle use and crashes in our country before and after the pandemic. The records of 386 patients who were injured in motorcycle accidents and followed up, received treatment, and were recorded at Biruni University Hospital between November 2015 and April 2023 were retrospectively examined. Noted details included the victims' age, gender, injury mechanism, injury site, injury severity, helmet use, presence and location of fractures, time distribution of the accident, and the severity of other important tissue injuries. The relationship between the injury site, fractures, and accident details, and the \"Injury Severity Score\" (ISS) was also investigated. RESULTS: Among the 386 injured victims in motorcycle accidents, 333 were male and 53 were female. Of these, 168 (43.5%) were motorcycle drivers, 137 (35.5%) were motorcycle couriers, and 81 (21%) were pedestrians. A total of 186 (48%) injuries occurred before the pandemic (November 2015-March 2020), while 200 (52%) were sustained during the pandemic. The study indicates a noticeable increase in motorcycle injuries, particularly among motor couriers, especially during the pandemic quarantine periods. Post hoc analysis revealed that motor couriers had significantly lower ISS compared to other professions (p=0.009 and p=0.045, respectively). Motorcyclists who wore helmets were found to have significantly lower ISS than those who did not wear helmets (p<0.05). Furthermore, it was found that the ISS was positively correlated with the number of bone fractures, total soft tissue injury, and significant clinical characteristics (r=0.758, r=0.756, and p<0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Th is clinical study's findings demonstrate that the measures implemented during the pandemic to limit society's mobility have led to an increase in motorcycle accidents. Notably, there has been a significant rise in the number of accidents, particularly involving individual motorcycle use and motorcycle courier services. Examining influencing factors of express delivery stations’ spatial distribution using the gradient boosting decision trees: A case study of Nanjing, China
Online shopping has promoted the development of logistics and express delivery businesses. Express delivery stations are closely related to residents’ daily lives, and it is an important topic for the study of urban consumption space and commercial service space. This paper analyzed the factors influencing the spatial distribution of terminal logistics space (express delivery stations) in the process of online shopping. The gradient boosting decision trees (GBDT) was selected for analyzing the factors influencing the distribution of express delivery stations. The results demonstrated that express delivery stations’ distribution is mainly influenced by commercial retail and residential neighborhoods, showing a clustering toward consumer spaces and residential areas. This paper studied the association between express delivery stations and other functional spaces in the city, and established an analytical framework for the factors influencing the spatial distribution of express delivery stations. The research results help to improve the rationality and effectiveness of the setting and management of the terminal logistics space in the online shopping process.
