Zhu Guangqian and Benedetto Croce on aesthetic thought : with a translation of the Wenyi xinlixue (The psychology of art and literature)
\"In Zhu Guangqian and Benedetto Croce on Aesthetic Thought, Mario Sabattini analyses Croce's influence on the aesthetic thought of Zhu Guangqian. Zhu Guangqian is one of the most representative figures of contemporary Chinese aesthetics. Since the '30s, he had an active role in China both on the literary and philosophical scenes, and, through his writings, he exerted an important influence in the moulding of numerous generations of intellectuals. Some of his works have been widely read, and they still provoke considerable interest in China, on the mainland as well as in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The volume also presents a revised translation of Zhu Guangqian's Wenyi xinlixue (Psychology of Art and Literature)\"-- Provided by publisher.

Ernesto de Martino and the Drama of Presence
2017
Gutherz uncovers the works of Ernesto de Martino. Unlike many current armchair critics of colonialist anthropology, de Martino understood the intellectual allure of what he ultimately rejected. He started studying \"primitives\" while still involved in Fascist youth organizations. Contact with the liberal philosopher Benedetto Croce helped pull him leftwards, however, and sometime around 1936 de Martino began to develop the systematic critique of anthropology and Fascist ideology. Between 1943 and 1945 he was actively involved in a partisan organization associated with the liberal-socialist Action Party and was, therefore, forced to write the bulk of his masterpiece II mondo magico: Prolegomeni a una storia del magismo while hiding from Hitler's henchmen in a small cottage near Ravenna.

John Middleton Murry's Editorial Apprenticeships: Getting Modernist 'Rhythm' into the Athenaeum, 1919–1921
2009
Demoor addresses lacuna by considering the impact of John Middleton Murry's experience as the editor of Rhythm and its short-lived sequel, the Blue Review, on his editorship of the Athenaeum. Modern and modernism are the keywords Murry and his contributors dared to use to define themselves and their artistic aims. Moreover, he fairly argues that Murry, Katherine Mansfield, and the other subeditors and contributors to the Athenaeum did transform the Victorian cultural weekly into an avant-garde mouthpiece but, in so doing, the journal also acquired that less fortunate aspect of the little magazines, their short-livedness. The quality of its contents is undisputed but could not secure the readership and the financial return it needed for its survival.
