Data secure application: an application that allows developers to store user data securely using blockchain and IPFS
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of software applications has increased by end users, which is an issue regarding user data privacy. Numerous apps are collecting sensitive data like user location and phone number, which are becoming hotspots for cyber-attacks. A cyberattack breaches your data, attacking your information, thereby losing data integrity, confidentiality, and availability. Cyberattack refers to the unauthorized intrusion of external personnel into a user’s private digital space. We have proposed a solution to provide secure data storage in third-party applications and leverage the power of Blockchain and Interplanetary File Systems. The proposed approach offers reliable role-based access to control data storage service that maintains data integrity, availability, and confidentiality. The proposed model uses the aforementioned technologies because they provide a distributed and decentralized nature of data storage and add-on support to data immutability. Traditionally the technologies used for such services are centralized and provide a single point of attack for the attacker. It puts confidential user data in jeopardy. The proposed solutions store encrypted data distributed to reduce reliance on big tech giants for data storage support and uproot the fear of collapsing systems due to a single point of failure.
On the Malleability of Consumer Attitudes toward Disruptive Technologies: A Pilot Study of Cryptocurrencies
The digital transformation of core marketing activities substantially impacts relations between consumers and companies. Novel technologies are usually complex, making their underlying functionality as well as the desirable and undesirable implications hard to grasp for ordinary consumers. Cryptocurrencies are a prominent yet controversial and poorly understood example of an innovation that may transform companies’ future marketing activities. In this study, we investigate how easily consumers’ attitudes toward cryptocurrencies can be shaped by splitting a convenience sample of 100 consumers into two equal groups and exposing them to true, but biased, information about cryptocurrencies (including market forecasts), respectively, highlighting either the advantages or disadvantages of the technology. We subsequently found a significant difference in the trust, security and risk perceptions between the two groups; specifically, more positive attitudes pertaining to trust, security, risk and financial gains prevailed in the group exposed to positively-skewed information, while perceptions regarding trust, risk and the sustainability of cryptocurrencies were weaker among the group exposed to negatively-skewed information. These findings reveal some important insights into how easily consumer attitudes toward new technologies can be shaped through the presentation of lopsided information and call for further in-depth research in this important yet under-researched field.
Leveraging Explainable AI to Support Cryptocurrency Investors
In the last decade, cryptocurrency trading has attracted the attention of private and professional traders and investors. To forecast the financial markets, algorithmic trading systems based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) models are becoming more and more established. However, they suffer from the lack of transparency, thus hindering domain experts from directly monitoring the fundamentals behind market movements. This is particularly critical for cryptocurrency investors, because the study of the main factors influencing cryptocurrency prices, including the characteristics of the blockchain infrastructure, is crucial for driving experts’ decisions. This paper proposes a new visual analytics tool to support domain experts in the explanation of AI-based cryptocurrency trading systems. To describe the rationale behind AI models, it exploits an established method, namely SHapley Additive exPlanations, which allows experts to identify the most discriminating features and provides them with an interactive and easy-to-use graphical interface. The simulations carried out on 21 cryptocurrencies over a 8-year period demonstrate the usability of the proposed tool.
High-Frequency Cryptocurrency Price Forecasting Using Machine Learning Models: A Comparative Study
The cryptocurrency market presents immense opportunities and significant risks due to its high volatility. Accurate price forecasting is crucial for informed investment decisions, enabling investors to optimize portfolio allocation, mitigate risk, and potentially maximize returns. Existing forecasting methods often struggle with the inherent non-stationarity and complexity of cryptocurrency price dynamics. This study addresses this challenge by developing a system for high-frequency forecasting of the closing prices of ten leading cryptocurrencies. We compare various machine learning models, including recurrent neural networks (RNNs), time series analysis (ARIMA), and conventional regression algorithms, using minute-step Bitcoin price data over a 30-day period to predict prices 60 min ahead. Our findings demonstrate that the GRU neural network exhibits superior predictive accuracy (MAPE = 0.09%, MSE = 5954.89, RMSE = 77.17, MAE = 60.20), outperforming other models considered. This improved forecasting accuracy contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence for GRU’s effectiveness in the volatile cryptocurrency market and offers practical insights for investment strategies. A web application integrating the best-performing model further facilitates real-time price prediction for multiple cryptocurrencies.
Experimental Analysis of Security Attacks for Docker Container Communications
Docker has become widely used as an open-source platform for packaging and running applications as containers. It is in the limelight especially at companies and IT developers that provide cloud services thanks to its advantages such as the portability of applications and being lightweight. Docker provides communication between multiple containers through internal network configuration, which makes it easier to configure various services by logically connecting containers to each other, but cyberattacks exploiting the vulnerabilities of the Docker container network, e.g., distributed denial of service (DDoS) and cryptocurrency mining attacks, have recently occurred. In this paper, we experiment with cyberattacks such as ARP spoofing, DDoS, and elevation of privilege attacks to show how attackers can execute various attacks and analyze the results in terms of network traffic, CPU consumption, and malicious reverse shell execution. In addition, by examining the attacks from the network perspective of the Docker container environment, we lay the groundwork for detecting and preventing lateral movement attacks that may occur between the Docker containers.
Candlestick Pattern Recognition in Cryptocurrency Price Time-Series Data Using Rule-Based Data Analysis Methods
In the rapidly evolving domain of cryptocurrency trading, accurate market data analysis is crucial for informed decision making. Candlestick patterns, a cornerstone of technical analysis, serve as visual representations of market sentiment and potential price movements. However, the sheer volume and complexity of cryptocurrency price time-series data presents a significant challenge to traders and analysts alike. This paper introduces an innovative rule-based methodology for recognizing candlestick patterns in cryptocurrency markets using Python. By focusing on Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Litecoin, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in identifying key candlestick patterns associated with significant market movements. The structured approach simplifies the recognition process while enhancing the precision and reliability of market analysis. Through rigorous testing, this study shows that the automated recognition of these patterns provides actionable insights for traders. This paper concludes with a discussion on the implications, limitations, and potential future research directions that contribute to the field of computational finance by offering a novel tool for automated analysis in the highly volatile cryptocurrency market.
Profitability trend prediction in crypto financial markets using Fibonacci technical indicator and hybrid CNN model
Cryptocurrency has become a popular trading asset due to its security, anonymity, and decentralization. However, predicting the direction of the financial market can be challenging, leading to difficult financial decisions and potential losses. The purpose of this study is to gain insights into the impact of Fibonacci technical indicator (TI) and multi-class classification based on trend direction and price-strength (trend-strength) to improve the performance and profitability of artificial intelligence (AI) models, particularly hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN) incorporating long short-term memory (LSTM), and to modify it to reduce its complexity. The main contribution of this paper lies in its introduction of Fibonacci TI, demonstrating its impact on financial prediction, and incorporation of a multi-classification technique focusing on trend strength, thereby enhancing the depth and accuracy of predictions. Lastly, profitability analysis sheds light on the tangible benefits of utilizing Fibonacci and multi-classification. The research methodology employed to carry out profitability analysis is based on a hybrid investment strategy—direction and strength by employing a six-stage predictive system: data collection, preprocessing, sampling, training and prediction, investment simulation, and evaluation. Empirical findings show that the Fibonacci TI has improved its performance (44% configurations) and profitability (68% configurations) of AI models. Hybrid CNNs showed most performance improvements particularly the C-LSTM model for trend (binary-0.0023) and trend-strength (4 class-0.0020) and 6 class-0.0099). Hybrid CNNs showed improved profitability, particularly in CLSTM, and performance in CLSTM mod. Trend-strength prediction showed max improvements in long strategy ROI (6.89%) and average ROIs for long-short strategy. Regarding the choice between hybrid CNNs, the C-LSTM mod is a viable option for trend-strength prediction at 4-class and 6-class due to better performance and profitability.
Using algorithmic trading to analyze short term profitability of Bitcoin
Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) have seen a surge in value in the recent past and appeared as a useful investment opportunity for traders. However, their short term profitability using algorithmic trading strategies remains unanswered. In this work, we focus on the short term profitability of BTC against the euro and the yen for an eight-year period using seven trading algorithms over trading periods of length 15 and 30 days. We use the classical buy and hold (BH) as a benchmark strategy. Rather surprisingly, we found that on average, the yen is more profitable than BTC and the euro; however the answer also depends on the choice of algorithm. Reservation price algorithms result in 7.5% and 10% of average returns over 15 and 30 days respectively which is the highest for all the algorithms for the three assets. For BTC, all algorithms outperform the BH strategy. We also analyze the effect of transaction fee on the profitability of algorithms for BTC and observe that for trading period of length 15 no trading strategy is profitable for BTC. For trading period of length 30, only two strategies are profitable.
