AI-Enabled Energy Policy for a Sustainable Future
The present time is a seminal decade for the transition of the energy sector through the deployment of green energy and the optimization of efficiencies using the power of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), which demands competitive policies to handle multidimensional endeavors via a single platform. The failure of energy policies can have far-reaching socioeconomic consequences when policies do not meet the energy and climate goals throughout the lifecycle of the policy. Such shortcomings are reported to be due to inadequate incentives and poor decision making that needs to promote fairness, equality, equity, and inclusiveness in energy policies and project decision making. The integration of AI in energy sectors poses various challenges that this study aims to analyze through a comprehensive examination of energy policy processes. The study focuses on (1) the decision-making process during the development stage, (2) the implementation management process for the execution stage, (3) the integration of data science, machine learning, and deep learning in energy systems, and (4) the requirements of energy systems in the context of substantiality. Synergistically, an emerging blueprint of policy, data science and AI, engineering practices, management process, business models, and social approaches that provides a multilateral design and implementation reference is propounded. Finally, a novel framework is developed to develop and implement modern energy policies that minimize risks, promote successful implementation, and advance society’s journey towards net zero and carbon neutral objectives.
A Review of User-Centred Design Methods for Designing a Portable Oil Spill Skimmer
Boom and skimmer are mechanical techniques in Oil Spill Response and Recovery (OSRR) that collect oil from the water surface. However, there are several drawbacks of using boom and skimmer, such as the oil could pass over the boom during strong wind and high tides. Moreover, the currently available oil skimmer designed by the engineers is heavy-duty; in consequence, it is ineffective in shallow water. Thus, there is a need to develop a portable oil spill skimmer to complement the current drawbacks. Several journals on the fabrication of the oil spill skimmer were reviewed. Findings from literature shows that the development of oil spill skimmer lacks user requirements when designing a portable oil spill skimmer. This article provides a systematic review of Kansei Engineering and the Analytical Hierarchy Process in the product development process. Therefore, Kansei Engineering and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) can be incorporated in the early stage of designing a portable oil spill skimmer. This paper also includes the application of Kansei Engineering and AHP in design research articles. Findings from observed articles indicate a lack of design and development technologies relating to products for environmental protection; the AHP and Kansei Engineering application is somewhat lacking. Moreover, the fabrication of an oil spill skimmer focuses more on technical specifications and includes fewer user requirements. As a result, the characteristics such as ease of use, robustness, and safety cannot be evaluated. The AHP and Kansei Engineering methodology can be extended to the design and manufacture of products for environmental protection.

GMP‐Compliant Process for the Manufacturing of an Extracellular Vesicles‐Enriched Secretome Product Derived From Cardiovascular Progenitor Cells Suitable for a Phase I Clinical Trial
Extracellular vesicle (EV)‐enriched secretomes are emerging as a new and innovative therapeutic option in the field of regenerative medicine. The clinical use of EV‐enriched secretome‐based products requires manufacturing processes and quality control (QC) testing that comply with current good manufacturing practice (GMP). The goal of this work was to develop a robust and reproducible large‐scale GMP‐compliant process for the production of an EV‐enriched secretome derived from cardiovascular progenitor cells (CPC), including the vesiculation of CPC, purification and concentration of the product; and sterilising filtration. QC strategies for in‐process and release testing of an investigational medicinal product (IMP) were developed to guarantee quantity, safety, purity and identity. The IMP showed biological activity and was non‐immunogenic in vitro, and showed no signs of toxicity or tumour development in vivo. The IMP was approved for use in a single‐centre Phase I clinical trial by the French National Agency for Medicines and Health (ANSM) for the treatment of heart failure. The IMP is stored between –65°C and –85°C and can be easily diluted by the hospital pharmacy for infusion to the patient. This work represents a major advance for the use of CPC derived EV‐enriched secretomes as a biological drug for cardiac clinical applications. Formalism-Driven Development: Concepts, Taxonomy, and Practice
Formal methods are crucial in program specification and verification. Instead of building cases to test functionalities, formal methods specify functionalities as properties and mathematically prove them. Nevertheless, the applicability of formal methods is limited in most development processes due to the requirement of mathematical knowledge for developers. To promote the application of formal methods, we formulate formalism-driven development (FDD), which is an iterative and incremental development process that guides developers to adopt proper formal methods throughout the whole development lifespan. In FDD, system graphs, a variant of transition systems optimized for usability, are designed to model system structures and behaviors with representative properties. System graphs are built iteratively and incrementally via refinement. Properties of system graphs are specified in propositional and temporal logics and verified by model-checking techniques with interpretation over transition system. In addition, skeleton programs are generated based on system graphs and expose implementable interfaces for executing external algorithms and emitting observable effects. Furthermore, we present Seniz, a framework that practicalizes and automates FDD. In this paper, we explicate the concepts and taxonomy of FDD and discuss its practice.
Large-scale cultivation of Leishmania infantum promastigotes in stirred bioreactor
Background & objectives: Bioreactors are practical tools that are used for economical, time-conserving and large-scale production of biomass from cell cultivation. They provide optimal environmental conditions such as pH and temperature required for obtaining maximum amounts of biomass. However, there is no evidence in the literature on the large-scale cultivation of Leishmania infantum parasites in the bioreactor. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to develop a new approach for obtaining L. infantum biomass by using pH and temperature controllable stirred bioreactor and to compare parasitic growth kinetics with classical method within erlenmeyers. Methods: In order to obtain parasite biomass, a newly developed pH and temperature controlled stirred bioreactor was used and its efficacy was compared with a graduated classical scale-up method. Growth kinetics of parasites within erlenmeyers and bioreactors were determined by evaluating promastigote numbers using haemocytometer. The graduated scale enlargement of culture was followed by T25 flask, T75 flask, and 1 L erlenmeyer, respectively. Results: Obtained results showed a 10-fold increase in the number of promastigotes within the conventional culture performed in 700 ml medium, while parasite numbers increased approximately 15 times due to initial inoculation amounts in the bioreactor culture performed in the 3.5 l medium. Thus, there was 7.5 times more biomass collection in bioreactor compared to classical method. Interpretation & conclusion: It is postulated that constant culture pH and temperature in the bioreactor extends cultivation time. This could lead to significant increase in parasite numbers. Hence, pH and temperature controllable bioreactors provided acquisition of sufficient amounts of biomass in contrast to classical methods. Therefore, this type of bioreactors may substitute classical culture methods in the production of antigenic molecules for vaccine development.
Working towards inclusive and equitable trauma treatment guidelines: a child-centered reflection
Clinical practice guidelines, such as those focusing on traumatic stress treatment, can play an important role in promoting inclusion and equity. Based on a review of 14 international trauma treatment guidance documents that explicitly mentioned children, we reflect on two areas in which these guidelines can become more inclusive and equitable; a) representation of children's cultural background and b) children's opportunity to have their voice heard. While a few guidelines mentioned that treatment should be tailored to children's cultural needs, there was little guidance on how this could be done. Moreover, there still appears to be a strong white Western lens across all stages of producing and evaluating the international evidence base. The available documentation also suggested that no young people under the age of 18 had been consulted in the guideline development processes. To contribute to inclusion and equity, we suggest five elements for future national guideline development endeavours. Promoting research and guideline development with, by, and for currently under-represented communities should be a high priority for our field. Our national, regional and global professional associations are in an excellent position to (continue to) stimulate conversation and action in this domain.
Product Development Model Focused on the Telecommunication Service
This article presents an analysis of the main reference models of Product Development Process (PDP) and specificities of the telecommunications industry. The research instruments used to collect the data was semi-structured interviews, direct observation and document analysis in two companies, in order to map and analyze their PDP. It was noticed that there was similarity of the steps of the Case Studies PDP with the reference models, especially the model of [4]. The main differences were the feasibility analysis, the assessment by the customer of the preliminary product concepts, and the emphasis on commercial and operational development. It was also noted that the PDP of the companies had no strong influence of practices and business processes. Their PDP were more involved in the ​​strategy area, infrastructure and with the product of eTOM framework.
