Derivatives essentials : an introduction to forwards, futures, options and swaps
\"A clear, practical guide to working effectively with derivative securities products Derivatives Essentials is an accessible, yet detailed guide to derivative securities. With an emphasis on mechanisms over formulas, this book promotes a greater understanding of the topic in a straightforward manner, using plain-English explanations. Mathematics are included, but the focus is on comprehension and the issues that matter most to practitioners--including the rights and obligations, terms and conventions, opportunities and exposures, trading, motivation, sensitivities, pricing, and valuation of each product. Coverage includes forwards, futures, options, swaps, and related products and trading strategies, with practical examples that demonstrate each concept in action. The companion website provides Excel files that illustrate pricing, valuation, sensitivities, and strategies discussed in the book, and practice and assessment questions for each chapter allow you to reinforce your learning and gauge the depth of your understanding. Derivative securities are a complex topic with many "moving parts," but practitioners must possess a full working knowledge of these products to use them effectively. This book promotes a truly internalized understanding rather than rote memorization or strict quantitation, with clear explanations and true-to-life examples. Understand the concepts behind derivative securities Delve into the nature, pricing, and offset of sensitivities Learn how different products are priced and valued Examine trading strategies and practical examples for each product Pricing and valuation is important, but understanding the fundamental nature of each product is critical--it gives you the power to wield them more effectively, and exploit their natural behaviors to achieve both short- and long-term market goals. Derivatives Essentials provides the clarity and practical perspective you need to master the effective use of derivative securities products\"-- Provided by publisher.

2011
Building upon the ideas introduced in their previous book, Derivatives in Financial Markets with Stochastic Volatility, the authors study the pricing and hedging of financial derivatives under stochastic volatility in equity, interest-rate, and credit markets. They present and analyze multiscale stochastic volatility models and asymptotic approximations. These can be used in equity markets, for instance, to link the prices of path-dependent exotic instruments to market implied volatilities. The methods are also used for interest rate and credit derivatives. Other applications considered include variance-reduction techniques, portfolio optimization, forward-looking estimation of CAPM 'beta', and the Heston model and generalizations of it. 'Off-the-shelf' formulas and calibration tools are provided to ease the transition for practitioners who adopt this new method. The attention to detail and explicit presentation make this also an excellent text for a graduate course in financial and applied mathematics.

Develop the skillset essential to successful securitisation swaps management Securitisation Swaps is a complete practitioner s guide to this unique and complex class of derivatives. This detailed examination follows the entire life cycle of securitisation swaps to give quants, structurers, traders, originators, issuers and lawyers a common reference for understanding their shared objective. Broad in scope to provide a common-ground perspective yet detailed enough to promote full understanding the discussion takes a distinctly cross-disciplinary approach that encompasses the multi-faceted knowledge base required to successfully execute these complex trades. Despite the fact that the size of the market is trillions of dollars in notional principal, securitisation swaps have thus far been neglected in both academic and practitioner literature. The numerous stakeholders that work together on these complex deals will all greatly benefit from a thorough understanding of their underlying risks and gain deep insight into the perspectives of each stakeholder. This invaluable guide provides multi-disciplinary insight that allows practitioners to: Manage securitisation swaps more effectively, from pre-trade structuring and modelling to post-trade risk management and accounting Understand the elements of securitisation and covered bonds, and how swaps mitigate risk in these types of transactions Explore how securitisation swaps differ from other derivatives and delve into their three specific risk factors swap prepayment risk, swap extension risk and downgrade risk Learn practical methods and strategies of risk management, accounting, pricing and transaction execution When securitisation trades go wrong, they become front-page news but when each participant understands accurate modelling, risk mitigation, optimal structuring, costs, pricing, commercial backgrounds and other integral practices, they are able to work together to achieve a shared objective. Securitisation Swaps provides the essential knowledge that streamlines and safeguards these important trades.

Governing the world's largest market : the politics of derivatives regulation after the 2008 crisis
\"In the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis, the regulation of the world's enormous derivatives markets assumed center stage on the international public policy agenda. Critics argued that loose regulation had contributed to the momentous crisis as well as commodity price volatility, market abuse, and, more generally, the growing power and influence of private financial interests. What has been done since 2008 to reform the regulation of derivatives markets? This volume examines how the G20 governments developed a coordinated international agenda to enhance public regulatory control over these markets that had been allowed to grow largely unchecked before the crisis. At the same time, the analysis shows that the degree of change embodied in this post-2008 reform agenda should not be overstated. The G20 governments have focused primarily just on enhancing the transparency and resilience of the markets, and they have endorsed some continued delegation of key governance functions to private actors and private rule-making. Moreover, the implementation of the G20 reform agenda has been characterized by unanticipated delays and inconsistencies as well as conflict and regulatory fragmentation between G20 members. The volume shows how these post-crisis regulatory trends - both the emergence of the G20 reform agenda and the difficulties associated with its implementation - have been influenced by a complex combination of transnational, inter-state, and domestic political dynamics\"-- Provided by publisher.

2018
Risk Takers: Uses and Abuses of Financial Derivatives goes to the heart of the arcane and largely misunderstood world of derivative finance and makes it accessible to everyone—even novice readers. Marthinsen takes us behind the scenes, into the back alleyways of corporate finance and derivative trading, to provide a bird’s-eye view of the most shocking financial disasters of the past quarter century. The book draws on real-life stories to explain how financial derivatives can be used to create or to destroy value. In an approachable, non-technical manner, Marthinsen brings these financial derivatives situations to life, fully exploring the context of each event, evaluating their outcomes, and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
A practical approach to XVA : the evolution of derivatives valuation after the financial crisis
\"The 2008 financial crisis shook the financial derivatives market to its core, revealing a failure to fully price the cost of doing business then. As a response to this, and to cope with regulatory demands for massively increased capital and other measures with funding cost, the pre-2008 concept of Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA) has evolved into the far more complex hybrid Cross Valuation Adjustment (XVA). This book presents a clear and concise framework and provides key considerations for the computation of myriad adjustments to the price of financial derivatives, to fully reflect costs. XVA has been of great interest recently due to heavy funding costs (FVA), initial margin (MVA) and capital requirements (KVA) required to sustain a derivatives business since 2008, in addition to the traditional concepts of cost from counterparty default or credit deterioration (CVA), and its mirror image -- the cost of one own's default (DVA). The book takes a practitioner's perspective on the above concepts, and then provides a framework to implement such adjustments in practice. Models are presented too, taking note of what is computationally feasible in light of portfolios typical of investment banks, and the different instruments associated with these portfolios\"-- Provided by publisher.
