Made in Italy : rethinking a century of Italian design
\"Goods made or designed in Italy enjoy a disproportionately high profile, even though, in terms of global manufacturing, Italy's output is relatively modest. Italy's glorious design heritage and reputation for innovation mean that goods 'Made in Italy', and/or designed in Italy, carry added value. Since 1945, Italian design has commanded an increasing amount of attention from design journalists, critics and consumers. But is Italian design a victim of its own celebrity? Made In Italy is the first critical study of Italian design to explore this question from the perspective of scholarly investigative chapters, analysing the significance of design from Italy and how its influence upon international design and consumerism has become so renowned and inflated by various media and design criticism. Using examples from a wide range of Italian design - from the designers themselves such as Gio Ponti and Andrea Branzi, to the urban landscape of the country itself, the book explores the historical, cultural and social influences that dictated design in Italy, and how these iconic designs have shaped and contributed to the modern canon of Italian inspired goods\"-- Provided by publisher.
Fault lines
Earth's fractured geology is visible in its fault lines. It is along these lines that earthquakes occur, sometimes with disastrous effects. These disturbances can significantly influence urban development, as seen in the aftermath of two earthquakes in Messina, Italy, in 1908 and in the Belice Valley, Sicily, in 1968. Following the history of these places before and after their destruction, this book explores plans and developments that preceded the disasters and the urbanism that emerged from the ruins. These stories explore fault lines between \"rural\" and \"urban,\" \"backwardness\" and \"development,\" and \"before\" and \"after,\" shedding light on the role of environmental forces in the history of human habitats.
The Monster in the Garden
Monsters, grotesque creatures, and giants were frequently depicted in Italian Renaissance landscape design, yet they have rarely been studied. Their ubiquity indicates that gardens of the period conveyed darker, more disturbing themes than has been acknowledged. InThe Monster in the Garden, Luke Morgan argues that the monster is a key figure in Renaissance culture. Monsters were ciphers for contemporary anxieties about normative social life and identity. Drawing on sixteenth-century medical, legal, and scientific texts, as well as recent scholarship on monstrosity, abnormality, and difference in early modern Europe, he considers the garden within a broader framework of inquiry. Developing a new conceptual model of Renaissance landscape design, Morgan argues that the presence of monsters was not incidental but an essential feature of the experience of gardens.
UniFor : a commitment to architecture = Una vocazione per l'architettura
UniFor progetta, infatti, sistemi di arredi custom made, all'insegna di una sofisticata qualitلa.

Published in 1559 and appearing here for the first time in English,La Villais a rare source of Renaissance landscape theory. Written by Bartolomeo Taegio, a Milanese jurist and man of letters, after his banishment (possibly for murder, Thomas E. Beck speculates), the text takes the form of a dialogue between two gentlemen, one a proponent of the country, the other of the city. While it is not a gardening treatise,La Villareflects an aesthetic appreciation of the land in the Renaissance, reveals the symbolic and metaphorical significance of sixteenth-century gardens for their owners, and articulates a specific philosophy about the interaction of nature and culture in the garden. This edition of the original Italian text and Beck's English translation is augmented with notes in which Beck identifies numerous references to literary sources inLa Villaand more than 280 people and places mentioned in the dialogue. The introduction illuminates Taegio's life and intellectual activity, his obligations to his sources, the cultural context, and the place ofLa Villain Renaissance villa literature. It also demonstrates the enduring relevance ofLa Villafor architecture and landscape architecture.La Villamakes a valuable contribution to the body of literature about place-making, precisely because it treats the villa as an idea and not as a building type.
