Fashion designers at the opera
Unlike ballet, which has a history of dipping into fashion, the opera has just begun to utilize talented designers for productions. In this sumptuous book, leading figures in the world of fashion are profiled vis-a-vis their entry into the operatic lists, with illustrations of their costume designs. Helena Matheopoulos's interviews with many of the designers illuminate the journey that led each to the opera and the challenges of working in a demanding new medium.
Costume in Performance
2017
This beautifully illustrated book conveys the centrality of costume to live performance. Finding associations between contemporary practices and historical manifestations, costume is explored in six thematic chapters, examining the transformative ritual of costuming; choruses as reflective of society; the grotesque, transgressive costume; the female sublime as emancipation; costume as sculptural art in motion; and the here-and-now as history. Viewing the material costume as a crucial aspect in the preparation, presentation, and reception of live performance, the book brings together costumed performances through history. These range from ancient Greece to modern experimental productions, from medieval theatre to modernist dance, from the “fashion plays” to contemporary Shakespeare, marking developments in both culture and performance. Revealing the relationship between dress, the body, and human existence, and acknowledging a global as well as an Anglo and Eurocentric perspective, this book shows costume’s ability to cross both geographical and disciplinary borders. Through it, we come to question the extent to which the material costume actually co-authors the performance itself, speaking of embodied histories, states of being, and never-before imagined futures, which come to life in the temporary space of the performance. With a contribution by Melissa Trimingham, University of Kent, UK.

2022
The emerging circular economy paradigm and subsequently changing consumption patterns drive the manufacturing industry to more sustainable designs and operations. Not only the environmental standards, but the way firms conduct business in economic and social aspects also comes into the consideration of buyers and investors. In this article, the framework consisting of four sustainable manufacturing pillars of supply chain, materials, design and production, and management and organization is presented so that manufacturers can embrace relevant examples in their business activities and make further transitions toward a circular economy. The analysis revealed several sustainability-oriented agendas and techniques such as sustainable management of supply chains and materials, smart and lean production, servitization, and environmental/social/corporate governance principles can form a virtuous cycle of socio-economic and environmental value creation.

Costume, makeup, and hair
\"Movie buffs and film scholars alike often overlook the importance of makeup artists, hair stylists, and costumers. With precious few but notable exceptions, creative workers in these fields have received little public recognition, even when their artistry goes on to inspire worldwide fashion trends\"-- Provided by publisher.
Repair of Peripheral Nerve Injury Using Hydrogels Based on Self-Assembled Peptides
2021
Peripheral nerve injury often occurs in young adults and is characterized by complex regeneration mechanisms, poor prognosis, and slow recovery, which not only creates psychological obstacles for the patients but also causes a significant burden on society, making it a fundamental problem in clinical medicine. Various steps are needed to promote regeneration of the peripheral nerve. As a bioremediation material, self-assembled peptide (SAP) hydrogels have attracted international attention. They can not only be designed with different characteristics but also be applied in the repair of peripheral nerve injury by promoting cell proliferation or drug-loaded sustained release. SAP hydrogels are widely used in tissue engineering and have become the focus of research. They have extensive application prospects and are of great potential biological value. In this paper, the application of SAP hydrogel in peripheral nerve injury repair is reviewed, and the latest progress in peptide composites and fabrication techniques are discussed.

This title is narrated through the visual magic of graphic design or a graphic design book told through the evocative magic of cinema. The goal lies in representing the emotion of cinema through extreme synthesis and simplicity of forms. Plus there's colour, which makes each illustration visually stunning and effective. For example, a white circle resting on a blue field is enough to portray the ball Wilson from 'Cast Away', while two white triangles perfectly perpendicular to a red field suffice to evoke 'Dracula'. From 'Game of Thrones' to 'Breaking Bad', even TV series, which have been elected to 'prime-time' for Hollywood productions, are visually represented in this book.

The paper describes the extension of the author’s approach to building prototypes of declarative knowledge bases of classical expert systems based on model transformations through the use of state transition diagrams and decision tables. These methods describe in the form of logical rules the information about relationships between the external signs of malfunctions and the causes, as well as between troubleshooting operations. The approach has been tested during the adaptation of the
AviaTekhPom.Terminal
application for the
Cessna
182T air conditioning system and
Sukhoi Superjet
100 (RRJ-95) power supply, control, and air conditioning systems. The estimation of results showed the expediency of using the described approach for modeling the branching scenarios of operations, verifying decision tables, and technical manuals.

Poor children Malawi Biography.
2019
\"When a terrible drought struck William Kamkwamba's tiny village in Malawi, his family lost all of the season's crops, leaving them with nothing to eat and nothing to sell. William began to explore science books in his village library, looking for a solution. There, he came up with the idea that would change his family's life forever: he could build a windmill. Made out of scrap metal and old bicycle parts, William's windmill brought electricity to his home and helped his family pump the water they needed to farm the land. Retold for a younger audience, this exciting memoir shows how, even in a desperate situation, one boy's brilliant idea can light up the world. Complete with photographs, illustrations, and an epilogue that will bring readers up to date on William's story, this is the perfect edition to read and share with the whole family.\"--Provided by publisher.
