El español y el alemán en contraste y sus implicaciones didácticas
Esta obra consta de estudios contrastivos sobre el par de lenguas español-alemán, que se plantean desde una perspectiva eminentemente aplicada a la didáctica de las lenguas extranjeras y su traducción. Reúne análisis empíricos de fenómenos particulares de la fonética, la prosodia, la morfología, la sintaxis, la semántica y la pragmática, que ponen al descubierto semejanzas y diferencias entre ambos sistemas lingüísticos de gran relevancia en los procesos de adquisición y enseñanza. En el volumen se despliegan distintas propuestas metodológicas, como el empleo de corpus paralelos o de programas de traducción automática, y se discute críticamente su potencial y limitaciones en la aplicación a la enseñanza de idiomas extranjeros.
In praise of good bookstores
\"Books, even obscure ones, are readily available online in the age of digital retail. As bookstores attempt to find their identity in a new era, some have survived by selling everything from toys to socks, coffee to stationery. In this short book, Jeff Deutsch, the director of the Seminary Co-op Bookstores in Chicago, aims to make the case for the value of spaces devoted to books and the value of the time spent browsing their stacks. It is a defense of serious bookstores, but more importantly it is a paean to the spaces that support them; the experience of readers as they engage with the books, the stacks, and each other; and the particular community created by the presence of such an institution. Conflict + Anxiety = Turmoil! Introducing a Measure of Conflict Response Derailers
Experiences of social conflict often trigger anxiety, which is associated with more reactive, extreme, and problematic responses to conflict. However, individuals respond to conflict anxiety in different ways. This article presents the findings from a series of scale development studies that sought to create and test a measure for assessing common behavioral response tendencies in interpersonal conflict. The Conflict Anxiety Response Scale (CARS) is based on a theoretical framework proposed by Morton Deutsch—a pioneering conflict research scholar and clinical practitioner—that outlines a set of tendencies identified as common manifestations of anxiety management in conflict. The present line of research aims to develop a valid and reliable scale to assess respondents on these inclinations and explore their consequences. Ultimately, we seek to offer a practical assessment tool of conflict anxiety responses to enhance self‐awareness, professional development, and well‐being.
Multilingualism in regular teacher education. A qualitative study with pre-post conversations and learning diaries on reconstruction of language-related notions of normality
This paper focuses on the multilingualism in teacher education and puts a new education policy in the spotlight: the German \"DaZ-Modul - German for pupils with an immigrant background\", which has been implemented as part of regular teacher training. In light of increasing linguistic diversity and transnational mobility, the potential of such a module is of particular significance. In order to analyse this potential, a qualitative study was conducted with pre-service teachers using a triangulation of pre- and post-group discussions with learning diaries. The findings offer deep insights into participants¿ perceptions of linguistic normality and its reconstruction in course of the training. Drawing on these findings, the paper discusses implications for teacher education in a multilingual society: the need to include multilingual subject-oriented didactics and to combine them with reflective and biographical methods. Der Beitrag befasst sich mit Mehrsprachigkeit und rückt eine neue bildungspolitische Maßnahme in den Mittelpunkt: das \"DaZ-Modul - Deutsch für Schüler:innen mit Migrationshintergrund\", das im Rahmen der regulären Lehrkräftebildung eingeführt wurde. Angesichts der zunehmenden sprachlichen Heterogenität und transnationalen Mobilität ist das Potenzial eines solchen Moduls von besonderer Bedeutung. Um dieses Potenzial zu analysieren, wurde eine qualitative Studie mit angehenden Lehrkräften durchgeführt, in der eine Triangulation von Gruppengesprächen im Prä-post-Design mit Lerntagebüchern verwendet wurde. Die Ergebnisse bieten tiefe Einblicke in die sprachlichen Normalitätsvorstellungen der Teilnehmenden und deren Rekonstruktion im Verlauf der Ausbildung. Auf der Grundlage dieser Ergebnisse werden Implikationen für die Lehrkräftebildung in einer mehrsprachigen Gesellschaft diskutiert: der Einbezug fachintegrierter mehrsprachiger Ansätze kombiniert mit reflexiven und biografischen Methoden. Zusammenspiel zwischen Diskurs und Syntax im Erwerb des Deutschen als Zweitsprache in der Kindheit
The goal of this study is to investigate the interplay of discourse and syntax, as it can be observed in the use of null objects, in the language development of a child who starts to acquire German at the age of nine years in a naturalistic setting. The study shows that children at such an age can profit from the knowledge already acquired in their first language. After nine months of exposure, the child under study uses null objects similarly to monolingual children. The acquisition of null objects in a second language can be impeded at an early stage, however, due to the different syntactic restraints for the use of null objects in the first and second languages.
There is no dilemma for conceptual engineering. Reply to Max Deutsch
Max Deutsch (in: Philosophical studies, online-first. https://doi.org/ 10.1007/s11098-020-01416-z, 2020) has recently argued that conceptual engineering is stuck in a dilemma. If it is construed as the activity of revising the semantic meanings of existing terms, then it faces an unsurmountable implementation problem. If, on the other hand, it is construed as the activity of introducing new technical terms, then it becomes trivial. According to Deutsch, this conclusion need not worry us, however, for conceptual engineering is ill-motivated to begin with. This paper responds to Deutsch by arguing, first, that there is a third construal of conceptual engineering, neglected by him, which renders it both implementable and non-trivial, and second, that even the more ambitious project of changing semantic meanings is no less feasible than other normative projects we currently pursue. Lastly, the value of conceptual engineering is defended against Deutsch's objections.
