On diagonal and off-diagonal splitting-based iteration method to solve absolute value equations

Lately, M. Dehghan et al. suggested a two-step iterative method for solving linear problems based on diagonal splitting and off-diagonal splitting (DOS) [Filomat 31:5 (2017) 1441–1452]. In this study, a two-step nonlinear DOS-like iteration method for solving absolute value equations is presented based on the DOS technique. Two linear subsystems need to be solved using the diagonal and lower triangular coefficient matrices in every iteration of the proposed approach. The convergence characteristics of the nonlinear DOS-like iteration technique are investigated under certain circumstances. Several examples are given to demonstrate the method efficacy.

Detection of DRFM Deception Jamming Based on Diagonal Integral Bispectrum

The transponder-style deception jamming implemented by Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) exhibits high similarity to real target radar echoes, while traditional detection methods suffer severe performance degradation under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. To address this issue, this paper proposes a DRFM active deception jamming detection method based on diagonal integral bispectrum, aiming to overcome the bottleneck of jamming detection under low-SNR conditions. By establishing a harmonic effect signal model for DRFM deception jamming, the cross-term generation mechanism in the bispectrum domain is revealed: the jamming signal generates dense cross-terms due to harmonic distortion, whereas the real target energy exhibits single-peak aggregation. To quantify this difference, the Diagonal Integral Bispectrum Relative Peak Height (DIBRP) is proposed to characterize the energy aggregation of true and false targets in the diagonal integral bispectrum, and the Diagonal Integral Bispectrum Approximate Entropy (DIBAE) is introduced to describe their complexity. A joint detection framework combining the DIBRP-DIBAE dual-feature space and a polynomial kernel support vector machine (SVM) is constructed to achieve active deception jamming detection. The proposed method demonstrates excellent performance under low-SNR conditions. Simulations and experimental results show that the correct detection rate reaches 92% at a jamming-to-signal ratio (JSR) and SNR of 0 dB, validating the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Intraneuronal inclusions containing alpha-synuclein (a-syn) constitute one of the pathological hallmarks of Parkinson's disease (PD) and are accompanied by severe neurodegeneration of A9 dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra. Although to a lesser extent, A10 dopaminergic neurons are also affected. Neurodegeneration of other neuronal populations, such as the cholinergic, serotonergic and noradrenergic cell groups, has also been documented in PD patients. Studies in human post-mortem PD brains and in rodent models suggest that deficits in cholinergic and dopaminergic systems may be associated with the cognitive impairment seen in this disease. Here, we investigated the consequences of targeted overexpression of a-syn in the mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic and septohippocampal cholinergic pathways. Rats were injected with recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors encoding for either human wild-type a-syn or green fluorescent protein (GFP) in the ventral tegmental area and the medial septum/vertical limb of the diagonal band of Broca, two regions rich in dopaminergic and cholinergic neurons, respectively. Histopathological analysis showed widespread insoluble a-syn positive inclusions in all major projections areas of the targeted nuclei, including the hippocampus, neocortex, nucleus accumbens and anteromedial striatum. In addition, the rats overexpressing human a-syn displayed an abnormal locomotor response to apomorphine injection and exhibited spatial learning and memory deficits in the Morris water maze task, in the absence of obvious spontaneous locomotor impairment. As losses in dopaminergic and cholinergic immunoreactivity in both the GFP and a-syn expressing animals were mild-to-moderate and did not differ from each other, the behavioral impairments seen in the a-syn overexpressing animals appear to be determined by the long term persisting neuropathology in the surviving neurons rather than by neurodegeneration.

The Role of the Medial Septum—Associated Networks in Controlling Locomotion and Motivation to Move

The Medial Septum and diagonal Band of Broca (MSDB) was initially studied for its role in locomotion. However, the last several decades were focussed on its intriguing function in theta rhythm generation. Early studies relied on electrical stimulation, lesions and pharmacological manipulation, and reported an inconclusive picture regarding the role of the MSDB circuits. Recent studies using more specific methodologies have started to elucidate the differential role of the MSDB’s specific cell populations in controlling both theta rhythm and behaviour. In particular, a novel theory is emerging showing that different MSDB’s cell populations project to different brain regions and control distinct aspects of behaviour. While the majority of these behaviours involve movement, increasing evidence suggests that MSDB-related networks govern the motivational aspect of actions, rather than locomotion per se . Here, we review the literature that links MSDB, theta activity, and locomotion and propose open questions, future directions, and methods that could be employed to elucidate the diverse roles of the MSDB-associated networks.

This review focuses on the neuronal and circuit mechanisms involved in the generation of the theta (θ) rhythm and of its participation in behavior. Data have accumulated indicating that θ arises from interactions between medial septum-diagonal band of Broca (MS-DbB) and intra-hippocampal circuits. The intrinsic properties of MS-DbB and hippocampal neurons have also been shown to play a key role in θ generation. A growing number of studies suggest that θ may represent a timing mechanism to temporally organize movement sequences, memory encoding, or planned trajectories for spatial navigation. To accomplish those functions, θ and gamma (γ) oscillations interact during the awake state and REM sleep, which are considered to be critical for learning and memory processes. Further, we discuss that the loss of this interaction is at the base of various neurophatological conditions.

PurposeIntegrating individual and relational centric voice literature, the authors draw on self-presentation theory to analyse the role of status pursuit in employee voice. Status pursuit is believed to be ubiquitous as it is linked to access to scarce resources and social order pecking.Design/methodology/approachThe authors present a cross-level conceptual model outlining relational nuances of employee status pursuit that drive upward voice.FindingsThe model integrates status pursuit with peer- and leader-related facets, focusing on three targets of voice: immediate leader (supervisor), diagonal leader (supervisor of another team/unit) and co-workers. The model highlights how employee voice can be directed to diverse targets, and depending on interpersonal attributes, how it serves as underlying links for upward voice.Originality/valueWhile employee voice can help to address important workplace concerns, it can also be used to advance employees' self-interest. Though there is a wealth of research on the importance of employee voice to organisational performance and individual wellbeing, especially through collective representation such as trade unions, there is a lack of literature on how employees navigate the social-relational work setting to promote their interests and develop status.

Multivalued 𝐹-Contractions and Related Fixed Point Theorems with an Application

In this paper, we introduce the notions of 𝛼-𝐹-contractions, by combining the notions of 𝛼-𝜓-contraction and 𝐹-contraction. Using our new notions we obtain some fixed point theorems for multivalued mappings. As an application we establish an existence theorem for integral equations. An example is also constructed to show an importance of our results.

Frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) applies widely to communication and radar systems to ensure communication information and channel signal quality by tuning frequency within a wide frequency range in a random sequence. An efficient signal processing scheme to resolve the timing and duration signature from an FHSS signal provides crucial information for signal detection and radio band management purposes. In this research, hopping time was first identified by a two-dimensional temporal correlation function (TCF). The timing information was shown at TCF phase discontinuities. To enhance and resolve the timing signature of TCF in a noisy environment, three stages of signature enhancement and morphological matching processes were applied: first, computing the TCF of the FHSS signal and enhancing discontinuities via wavelet transform; second, a dual-diagonal edge finding scheme to extract the timing pattern signature and eliminate mismatching distortion morphologically; finally, Hough transform resolved the agile frequency timing from purified line segments. A grand-scale Monte Carlo simulation of the FHSS signals with additive white Gaussian noise was carried out in the research. The results demonstrated reliable hopping time estimation obtained in SNR at 0 dB and above, with a minimal false detection rate of 1.79%, while the prior related research had an unattended false detection rate of up to 35.29% in such a noisy environment.
