''In 1982, we promised the people of this state the hardest working government in its history,'' declared Mr. [Cuomo], around whom the entire convention was centered. ''That's just what we've been. We promised we would lead the way to jobs and justice from Buffalo to Montauk Point. That's just what we've done. ''I'm looking forward to this campaign,'' the Governor said. ''It will be five months of fun -five months of reminding New Yorkers of how much we've accomplished together.'' ''If you have any sense at all,'' he said as he paused amid a cluster of delegates, ''you remember Brighton Beach in 1977, when they spat in your face. Same kind of crowd. So, you know that's life. Brighton Beach, they spat on you. Today, they're not spitting. Maybe next year, who knows?''
