Hospital seeks probe of patient deaths
Hospital officials notified the Chicago Police Department on June 22 because the insulin levels may have been caused by an \"intentional act,\" hospital spokesman John Easton said. Police spokeswoman Monique Bond confirmed that Wentworth Area homicide detectives are investigating, but she said the investigation is in the preliminary stage. Two of the victims had insulin levels \"thousands of times higher than normal levels,\" sources said. The third was not tested for insulin levels but was hypoglycemic at the time of her death, officials said. Doctors were alerted to the problem on June 6 when they first saw a high-insulin test result, Easton said. Test results for a second victim were seen on June 14. The hospital notified police after a June 22 staff \"root cause\" meeting at which internal investigators could not explain the deaths, Easton said.
Soldier's war medals finally reach family after 69 years
Mr Easton, 69, said: \"I sent a letter to the MoD medal office asking if they had uncle [John Easton]'s medals and I got an acknowledgement back saying they would look into it. Last week a package arrived and there they were. I was delighted. The medals are now where they should be.\" The medals, which were never claimed by the family after LCpl Easton's death in 1941, include the 1939-1945 Star, the Africa Star, the Defence Medal, and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Mr Easton, who began to uncover the details of his uncle's remarkable feat at the end of last year, plans to keep the medals at his home in Musselburgh until he sees his cousin John - also LCpl Easton's nephew - who lives in Canada.

John's bike was returned, the following day. He said he had to sell it immediately because he couldn't risk the police charge if it got stolen again.

Niles team racks up state championship
No one knows this better than Niles resident John Easton. Easton is the operator of the Southwest Michigan American Poolplayers Association (APA) pool league and oversees the roughly 150- sanctioned APA 8-Ball teams under his charge. That said, he spends more time these days managing the sport of pool than he does playing it. Recently, one of the teams under Easton's charge caught a touchdown pass of its own and brought some state pride back to Niles. Team NE148BALL (that's 'anyone for 8-ball?' for those of you not good with puzzles) competed in the Michigan State APA 8-Ball League Championship Tournament in Muskegon, Mich., Nov. 3-5, and -- besting 48 other teams--brought home a state title, a championship plaque to go along with and, not to mention, a grand prize of $5,000. \"This team has played together for about four years and it's kind of a unique thing because they are a husband and wife team,\" said Easton. \"They've won trips to Las Vegas before to compete in our national APA tournament out there, and then they obviously went out and won this state title. [Brian Roberts] was probably the best player on their team. He is rated a seven-handicap, if you play against him if you're lucky you'll get one shot...he pretty much clears the table.\"
