Purpose
This study aims to design a proposed framework for evaluating university websites.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is an exploratory mixed research. It was an applied research in terms of objective and used the Delphi technique and systematic review and meta-analysis approaches. Data collection tools were done through library studies, Delphi checklist and observation. The statistical population of the research comprised 17 experts who are designers of university websites and 20 Iranian university websites selected from the Webometrics website. The statistical data were analyzed using fuzzy methods, descriptive and inferential statistical methods and the SWARA weighting method. Also, the statistical analysis software SPSS 20 and Excel 2016, TOPSIS engineering software and MAXQDA were used.
Findings
Findings indicated that the dimensions of the designed proposed framework in order of their weights are credibility (0.130), reliability (0.125), usability (0.120), website design (0.110), functionality (0.104), content (0.100), page design (0.0922), efficiency (0.082), Webometrics (0.070) and systematic evaluation (0.067). Mebrate’s (2010) framework had the highest overlap (mean = 74.65), and Webometrics (mean = 18.5) had the least overlap and dependency (mean = 19) with the proposed framework. In the evaluation of the 20 university websites of Iran selected from the Webometrics site, the University of Tehran was ranked first with a score of 82.7 and Shiraz University was ranked last with a score of 75.
Originality/value
This study provides a comprehensive proposed framework for evaluating university websites that eliminates the shortcomings of all models, frameworks and methods of university website evaluation that focused only on one or more dimensions of university websites.

The three-month quasi-experimental study examined the impact of Purple Mash, an educational website, on grade four students’ academic achievement and perception. The study involved 28 participants, divided into control and experimental groups. Initial assessment scores were similar between the groups, but after the intervention, the experimental group showed a significant increase in post-test scores compared to the control group. The experimental group achieved an average score of 89.9, while the control group scored 77.2. Additionally, the students reported high levels of satisfaction with the interactive learning experiences provided by Purple Mash. Based on these findings, the study recommends the development of dedicated websites for each lesson to enhance accessibility and improve academic achievement and student perception in information and communication technology (ICT) courses. The integration of various data sources, such as pre- and post-test scores, classroom observations, and interviews, supported the credibility and dependability of the research findings. This thorough approach allowed for a deeper understanding of ICT class dynamics and the establishment of robust conclusions. The findings of this study provide compelling evidence of the positive impact of Purple Mash, a web-based mathematics learning platform, on primary school students’ mathematics achievement.

The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic shows that schools must adapt new approaches in order to continue to provide teaching and learning at schools. To achieve this, students must be equipped to learn in a multifaceted, multitasking, and technology-driven world, and the utilization of web 2.0 tools has been revealed as important in this endeavor. The aim of this study is to introduce an educational website enriched with web 2.0 tools designed for science teaching and in addition, to show the effect on achievement and motivation. Therefore, the effect of an educational website supported by web 2.0 tools on achievement and motivation was investigated in a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The unit of “Force and Energy” was presented through an educational website enriched by Web 2.0 tools. The positive effects of using the website on the achievement and motivation of the students in the results brought to mind the use of an educational website supported by web 2.0 tools as an alternative or support to online training during the COVID 19 pandemic.

The number of electronic educational resources is multiplying day by day. Though such resources can be used in teaching children, teachers are not aware of their effectiveness thus far. So as to include websites in educational process purposefully and methodologically profoundly, it is important for the teacher to have cognizance of educational tasks that can be solved with the help of electronic resources, methodological functions they perform, and types of training activities they support and initiate. The paper is aimed to reveal the effectiveness of the interactive educational platform UCHI.ru while teaching math to primary school students. The leading methods applied in the research are as follows: testing, observation and analysis of educational process aimed to teach Mathematics to children aged between eight and nine through the use of UCHI.ru interactive educational platform to specify the dynamics of mathematical skills development in primary school students. The paper proves the validity of primary school students’ mathematical training using UCHI.ru interactive educational platform; reveals features in teaching Mathematics to children aged 8-9 with the use of an educational website; identifies possible problem areas in teaching Mathematics using UCHI.ru interactive educational platform. UCHI.ru interactive educational platform, proposed in the paper, improves learners’ motivation, facilitates their search competence formation and identifies gaps in basic knowledge of “Mathematics” as a subject for each student in class. UCHI.ru interactive educational platform can be employed by primary school teachers as supplementary didactic material.

2013
Website usability can be defined as the ease of use of websites. General usability, pedagogical usability, technical usability and intercultural usability can be considered and examined for the understanding of the usability of language learning websites, which requires a discipline-specific approach. In the field of computer-assisted language learning, usability issues have been addressed mainly in terms of evaluation criteria and have been commonly discussed in relation to user expectations and user experiences. In spite of a growing interest in intercultural language learning, however, little research on intercultural usability of language learning websites has been published yet. There is a need to answer the question of how language learning websites integrate the target language and culture for the development of intercultural sensitivity and competence. This article explores intercultural aspects of language learning websites and presents usability guidelines for designing intercultural language learning websites.

Heuristic Evaluation of Three Jordanian University Websites
2013
Generally, universities have complex and large websites, which include a collection of many sub-sites related to the different parts of universities (e.g. registration unit, faculties, departments).
Managers of academic institutions and educational websites need to know types of usability problems that could be found on their websites. This would shed the light on possible weak aspects on their websites, which need to be improved, in order to reap the advantages of usable educational websites. There is a lack of research which provides detailed information regarding the types of specific usability problems that could be found on universities’ websites in general, and specifically in Jordan. This research employed the heuristic evaluation method to comprehensively evaluate the usability of three large public university websites in Jordan (Hashemite University, the University of Jordan, and Yarmouk University). The evaluation involves testing all pages related to the selected universities’ faculties and their corresponding departments. A list of 34 specific types of usability problems, which could be found on a Jordanian university website, was identified. The results provide a description regarding the common types of the problems found on the three Jordanian university sites, together with their numbers and locations on the website.

Technical and Perceived Usability Issues in Arabic Educational Websites
2018
Educational websites are often used as effective communication mediums to provide useful information for students and course instructors. The current study explores the perceived usability of three top-ranked Arabic educational websites across seven key usability components: effectiveness, efficiency, learnability, memorability, errors, satisfaction, and content. Moreover, the study also identifies the key technical and usability issues that currently exist within Arabic educational websites. A two-phase process encompassing automated tools and user testing was adopted to evaluate the technical performance and student acceptance of Arabic educational websites. In the automatic evaluation, two tools, namely, Web Page Analyser and GTMetrix, assessed the websites against a number of well-known performance guidelines and criteria. The student evaluation entailed 150 students completing three interaction tasks and evaluating the sites using the CSUQ questionnaire. The findings indicate that Arabic educational websites suffered from various technical issues, such as a high number of HTML objects and their large size and, consequently, slow loading speed. Moreover, the websites failed to satisfy all usability components, and students rated them negatively. Relevant guidelines for the effective design of Arabic educational websites are also discussed in this paper.
