CDHS Flames primed for play-off hockey run
The Flames, currently third in the league standings with a 5-1-1 record, made the big jump this year to the tournament's \"A\" division from the \"C\" pool and looked more than strong and capable as they faced off against some provincial heavyweights including the defending \"A\" champion Sir Oliver Mowat Gaels from Scarborough and 2012 \"B\" champs St. Aloysius Gonzaga Bulldogs of Mississauga. The Norwood District High School Knights opened with a 4 -1 win over I.E. Weldon but lost 7 -2 to the 2013 \"B\" champion O'Connor Chargers of Ajax and 4 -0 to Toronto's Riverdale Raiders. \"It's a big thing and stepping-stone for the team and the development of the program,\" co-coach Doug Matthews told The Independent. \"It's great to play against high intensity teams like this and then when we go into the play-offs you're on top of your game.\"
MAGIC OFFICIAL ISN'T DISGRACED BY TIE TO BLISS
He doesn't know of this [Dave Bliss] that we chastise presently. We see the scoundrel, the man who cheated and then tried to save his butt by slandering a dead man. To [Ellis Dawson], Bliss was a man who taught him the essentials: hard work and attention to detail. Hate Bliss? How can he hate Bliss?
UNM'S DAWSON HANDLES DETAILS FOR BLISS & CO
Ellis Dawson sent his first letter to the UNM basketball program when Gary Colson and his staff were in charge. He didn't start at UNM until Dave Bliss had taken over. But Bliss has never had a home game without Dawson on the bench, and Dawson is working on his fifth season in which he has seen every game. When the Lobos hit the road, Dawson has to make certain the players pack uniforms and everything else they'll need. And Dawson knows every laundromat in the Western Athletic Conference because he has to do the laundry after every game. \"I would say that I spend six or seven hours a day (working for the Lobos),\" Dawson says. During that schedule, he checks to make certain players are going to class as scheduled. Some have waited until he sticks his head in the door before they duck out. But after six years of doing it, Dawson usually catches them.
