The last review on teacher enthusiasm was 45 years ago, and teacher enthusiasm remains a compelling yet complex variable in the educational context. Since Rosenshine's (School Review, 1970, Vol. 78, 499-514) review, the conceptualizations, definitions, methodology, and results have only become more scattered, and several related constructs have emerged that may or may not be synonymous with teacher enthusiasm. In this review, we delve into the past four decades of teacher enthusiasm research to provide a potential starting point for a new, consolidated direction in teacher enthusiasm research based on a proposed, holistic definition of enthusiasm which brings together research from the past and can fuel research for the future. We begin by reviewing definitions of teacher enthusiasm and related constructs and, thereafter, put forward a new and integrative definition of teacher enthusiasm that combines the two most prevalent conceptualizations of the construct, namely experienced enjoyment and expressive behavior. Bearing our proposed definition in mind, we go on to present numerous measures that assess teacher enthusiasm, detail research evidence related to its correlates, and finally derive several research implications that, when considered in future research, promise to advance the field. Zhaolan Hu, Email huzhaolan@csu.edu.cnBackground: Understanding the drivers of medical studentsâ learning enthusiasm is crucial amid concerns about the physician workforce. This study compares Chinaâs five-year and eight-year medical programs, focusing on curriculum design and the effectiveness of assignments. Objective: To compare learning enthusiasm between the two programs and analyze how assignment design and curriculum influence active learning and critical thinking. Methods: A cross-sectional study surveyed 504 medical students (98 eight-year, 406 five-year) using the Self-Assessment Scale for Active Learning and Critical Thinking (SSACT).Results: Significant differences emerged between five-year and eight-year students in geographical origin (Ï2 = 22.11, P < 0.001, Cramerâs V = 0.209) and program preference (Ï2 = 67.26, P < 0.001, Cramerâs V = 0.366). Eight-year students were more often from provincial capitals (39.80% vs 17.98%) and had chosen their program as a first preference (88.78% vs 68.23%), with stronger clinical career commitment (57.14% vs 36.45%). Lecture engagement was higher in the eight-year cohort. The assignment evaluation showed that both groups invested more than 5 hours per week. Review writing showed differences between the two groups (Ï2 = 22.49, P < 0.001, Cramerâs V = 0.212), but eight-year students found it more meaningful (49.49% vs 28.07%). Using the reliable SSACT (Cronbachâs α = 0.892), eight-year students scored higher in active learning (managing study, P = 0.037; summarizing discussions, P = 0.025) and critical thinking (formulating questions, P = 0.034; generating solutions, P = 0.014; connecting knowledge, P = 0.018; developing hypotheses, P = 0.004).Conclusion: Assignment overload and limited self-study time in the current model may undermine critical thinking and active learning. Reforms should balance task quality with volume to better support educational goals.

Mania for freedom : American literatures of enthusiasm from the Revolution to the Civil War
\"In this study of literature in antebellum America, John Mac Kilgore argues that a distinct rhetorical tradition of enthusiasm emerged as a form of political dissent. This was literature written to confront normative values, to respond to critical injustice, and to incite revolt, if not broad change. Literary enthusiasm came to signify a particular form of protest among marginalized groups, including commoners, slaves, immigrants, Native Americans, women, and abolitionists. These dissenting voices, these enthusiasts, fought against what they viewed as tyranny while using their writings to forge international or anti-nationalistic political affiliations\"-- Provided by publisher.
The association between teacher enthusiasm and students’ class-related boredom: A multilevel study
2022
The present study, using a multilevel analytical framework, examined the association between teacher enthusiasm and students’ class-related boredom. Teacher enthusiasm was defined as an enthusiastic emotion and measured from the perspectives of teachers and students respectively. A total of 43 teachers (74.4% female; Mage = 34.19, SD = 4.30) and 1693 undergraduate students (73.3% female; Mage = 20.13, SD = 1.20) were recruited from Chinese universities based on a multisite data collection approach. Teachers were asked to fill in the questionnaire assessing teacher enthusiasm, whereas undergraduate students completed a set of self-report questionnaires related to the perception of teacher enthusiasm and class-related boredom. Results of the multilevel structural equation modeling showed that teachers’ self-reported enthusiasm was negatively associated with students’ perceived teacher enthusiasm, which in turn was negatively associated with students’ class-related boredom at the class level. Moreover, at the student level, perceived teacher enthusiasm was negatively associated with class-related boredom. The implications for learning and teaching were discussed.

RETRACTED: Teaching Reform and Practice Exploration of Water Environment Chemistry and Control Technology Based on Computer Technology
2021
Water environmental chemistry is an important part of environmental chemistry teaching, and with global warming, water environmental chemistry teaching can cultivate the awareness of environmental protection, the traditional water environment teaching course is relatively boring, the textbook content is too simple. Based on this, this paper firstly explains the problems existing in the teaching of water environmental chemistry and the advantages of multimedia teaching in the teaching of water environmental chemistry, and then explores them in combination with specific experiments for the reference of readers.
