Reasonable self-esteem : a life of meaning
\"In this fascinating look at the philosophy of self-esteem, Richard Keshen develops and defends the idea of reasonable self-esteem--a concept based on an ideal of reasonableness--and argues that individuals who think of themselves in terms of this paradigm will lead happier and more fulfilling lives. Keshen presents a set of guidelines for analysing self-esteem and examines various factors that influence our self-esteem, such as other people's evaluations, comparisons with others, social relationships, and inherent qualities. He asserts that self-esteem not founded on individual achievement leads to a continual search for external supports and is easily shaken when such supports are not found. A key element of Keshen's argument is the idea of egalitarian respect, and he shows how we can integrate this idea into our lives. Reasonable Self-Esteem demonstrates the attraction of a life in which reasonableness is a central commitment. It will appeal to those with an interest in philosophy, ethics, and moral psychology and is essential reading for those concerned with self-esteem.\"-- Provided by publisher.

2025
Adolescent girls often face challenges in asserting their sexual rights and boundaries, particularly due to fear of losing a partner or social pressures. This study aimed to examine the influence of self-esteem, self-control, parental support, and peer support on sexual assertiveness among female adolescents in Pacar Kembang district, Surabaya, Indonesia. A cross-sectional design was used with 100 participants who completed self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, revealing that self-esteem (β = 0.227, p = 0.014), self-control (β = 0.267, p = 0.010), parental support (β = 0.319, p = 0.000), and peer support (β = 0.133, p = 0.032) significantly predicted sexual assertiveness. These findings underscore the importance of building adolescents’ self-confidence, emotional regulation, and support networks to strengthen sexual agency. Interventions that promote these factors may contribute to reducing risky or unwanted premarital sexual behaviors among young females, and similar strategies may be applicable in other low- and middle-income country settings.

Influences and Importance of Self-Awareness, Self-Evaluation and Self-Esteem
2022
Self-esteem forms a critical component of mental health, as an absence of self-esteem is associated with mental disorders like depression. As such, understanding the nature and meaning of self-esteem and related phenomena like self-perception is essential for treatment of a variety of mental illnesses. Chapter One utilizes terror management theory to explain what self-esteem is, how the need for self-esteem develops, how people attain and maintain self-esteem, and why self-esteem is so important for psychological well-being. Chapter Two demonstrates how self-esteem is the fundamental mental attitude that provides the qualities necessary to perform democracy and reject authoritarian threats. Chapter Three deals with the definition of self-awareness, the description of the neural substrates that have been associated with it, and the examination of an interpretive neuroanatomical model of the phenomenon, with a focus on neurological and neuropsychological diseases. Chapter Four advocates a culture of self-evaluation as part of academic and professional culture through critical reflection on teaching and the results of one's own work. Chapter Five analyzes self-concept as a predictor of the academic self-efficacy perceived by adolescents. Lastly, Chapter Six studies the relationship between testosterone levels and self-esteem in school-age boys and girls.

Cross-sectional studies
2021
The study aimed to explore the role of self-esteem and self-efficacy in
women empowerment among academic and administrative staff at Saudi
universities. A cross-sectional design was carried out at 15
governmental universities. A multistage cluster sampling technique was
used to select 5587 participants. Multiple linear regression was used
to analyze the predictive relation. Data collection included
socio-demographic variables, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, general
self-efficacy scale, and women empowerment scale. The results indicated
that study participants' self-esteem was equally distributed between
moderate (49.8%) and high (50.2%). Also, 66.9% of the participants had
high self-efficacy, and 86.8% had high total women's empowerment.
Regression coefficient showed that self-esteem (B=0.521, b=0.127,
t=13.785 and p<0.001) and self-efficacy (B=2.388, b=0.702, t=76.049
and p<0.001) are important predictors of the total women
empowerment. However, self-efficacy was observed to be the most
dominant predictor (t=76.049). The total model summary shows that 73.4%
of the women empowerment level can be predicted through self-esteem and
self-efficacy. The study results can be used as a base to build women
empowerment programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and help to
achieve the 2030 KSA vision regarding women empowerment. (Afr J Reprod
Health 2021; 25[1s]: 69-78).
Cependant, l'auto-efficacité a
(Afr J
Reprod Health 2021; 25[1s]: 69-78).
