The association between family physical activity environment and exercise adherence in adolescents: a chain mediation model
2024
The family plays an immensely crucial role in the development of adolescents, significantly influencing their behavioral patterns. To explore the impact mechanism of the family physical activity environment on adolescents’ exercise adherence, and analyze the chain-mediating role of exercise self-efficacy and exercise satisfaction. A questionnaire was administered to 500 adolescents and their parents using the Family Physical Activity Environment Scale, Exercise Adherence Scale, Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale and Satisfaction Scale. The direct impact value of the family physical activity environment on adolescents’ exercise adherence is 0.148, with an effect size of 32.81%. The impact values of exercise self-efficacy and satisfaction between the family physical activity environment and adolescents’ exercise adherence are 0.113 and 0.092 respectively, with effect sizes of 25.05% and 20.39%. The chain-mediating effect of exercise self-efficacy and satisfaction is significant, with an effect value of 0.097 and an effect size of 21.50%. Family physical activity environment can directly and positively predict adolescents’ exercise adherence, positively predict adolescents’ exercise adherence through the independent mediating role of exercise self-efficacy and satisfaction, and also positively predict adolescents’ exercise adherence through the chain mediating role of exercise self-efficacy and satisfaction. This provides a theoretical reference for enhancing adolescents’ exercise adherence and improving their levels of physical health.

A Study of Differences in Enjoyment, Exercise Commitment, and Intention to Continue Participation Among Age Groups of Adult Amateur Golfers
2025
Golf is one of the leisure sports that offers various benefits and has become a popular public sport with participation from people of various age groups. A total of 262 questionnaires were distributed online, with 240 valid responses collected after excluding 22 with non-responses or partial answers. The results showed statistically significant differences in enjoyment by age group, except for recognition from others. Regarding physical health, those in their 60s and above had higher mean scores than other age groups, and those in their 50s scored higher than those in their 30s. Stress relief was greater among those in their 50s than among those in their 20s and 30s, while socialization was higher among those in their 50s than in their 20s. However, for skill improvement, participants in their 20s scored higher than those in their 50s and 60s and above. Exercise commitment and intention to continue participation also varied significantly by age group, with older participants generally scoring higher. In conclusion, the results of this study revealed significant differences in psychological factors among the age groups. Specifically, amateur golfers aged 50 and above showed higher mean scores in all variables compared to younger groups.

Elderly Individuals’ Satisfaction With Own Physical Activity Predicts Their Need for Care 3 Years Later
2024
This study investigated how elderly individuals’ exercise satisfaction in snowy areas relates to their health indicators and future care needs. Survey data were collected from individuals aged ≥65 years who lived in snowy-cold regions. Participants completed measures of exercise satisfaction, frailty, quality of life (QOL), and cardiovascular health study during the winter and spring of 2019, with a follow-up measure in 2022 to assess care needs. Findings revealed an association between exercise satisfaction, QOL, and frailty indicators, irrespective of the season. Notably, winter exercise satisfaction showed a stronger correlation with future care needs compared to spring exercise satisfaction. Those expressing low winter exercise satisfaction were significantly more likely to require increased care 3 years later than those reporting no inactivity. Although physical activity was not measured directly, the findings underscore that perceptions of exercise satisfaction during snowy seasons can predict future care needs in older adults. The influence of seasonal variations and subjective exercise satisfaction on long-term care requirements is vital for tailored interventions and improved healthcare strategies for older adults in cold regions.

This study investigated the effects of combined aerobic and heavy resistance training on the variables of body composition, muscle hypertrophy, and exercise satisfaction in physically active adults in comparison with heavy resistance training only (predominantly designed for hypertrophy). Twenty-two healthy male adults between the ages of 18 and 35, who had limited previous experience with muscle resistance training, participated in the intervention program while maintaining their physical activity level. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups: the resistance training group (control group) and the combined training group (experimental group), which involved both resistance training and aerobic training. Aerobic training consisted of 30 min aerobic interval training sessions three times a week with a total of 8 min work bouts in each at 60–70% of heart rate reserve (HRR). The intervention training program lasted for eight weeks. Resistance training consisted of a 3-day muscle group split (2–3 exercises per muscle group, 8 sets per muscle group, 6–12 repetition maximum (RM). Upon completion, body composition, muscle hypertrophy, and exercise satisfaction were analyzed using the mixed-design ANOVA. Variables selected for this study as markers of body composition responded differently to the different interventions and time; however, some trends were not statistically significant. Overall, it is not possible to state unequivocally that one training modality was superior to another in the body composition cluster, for significant improvements were observed within the groups from pre- to post-interventions, but no significant differences were observed between the resistance training and combined training groups, while, both interventions showed improvement with time in some variables of muscle hypertrophy. Compared to baseline, the exercise satisfaction post-intervention improved within the groups. From pre- to post-testing, both resistance and combined training groups improved exercise satisfaction (p < 0.05 in both groups). However, there was no significant difference in exercise satisfaction observed between the resistance training and combined training groups after the training intervention (p > 0.05).

Can Aromatherapy Make People Feel Better Throughout Exercise?
2020
We analyzed participants’ feelings and arousal before, during, and after exercise as per whether they receive aromatherapy. Twenty university students who regularly took part in health exercises were selected through purposive sampling. Changes in feelings were measured through a 2D circumplex model and an in-depth interview. The effects on exercisers who received aromatherapy were more positive than for those who did not receive any treatment. Specifically, it induced positive feelings during exercise, reduced fatigue during exercise, and improved participants’ feelings during the recovery period. Aroma has a key influence on exercisers’ feelings, and it can positively influence exercise satisfaction and persistence.

Effects of Content Characteristics and Improvement in User Satisfaction on the Reuse of Home Fitness Application
2023
As the global fitness industry rapidly digitalizes, home fitness applications have emerged as a convenient solution for people to exercise anytime, anywhere. This study investigated the mediation effect of exercise satisfaction on the relationship between content characteristics and continuance intention to use home fitness applications. This study provided guidance for developing effective home fitness applications by analyzing which content characteristics can increase the continuance intention to use home fitness applications. The mediation effect of exercise satisfaction on content characteristics and continuance intention to use was examined using a structural equation model analysis, and 330 survey responses from individuals who have used home fitness applications for exercise were analyzed. The results confirmed that the enhancement of the content characteristics exerted a positive effect on exercise satisfaction and continuance intention to use. Additionally, the enhancement of exercise satisfaction characteristics positively affected the continuance intention to use. Further, exercise satisfaction was observed to exert a significant mediating effect on the relationship between the content characteristics and continuance intention to use home fitness applications. These findings suggest that it is essential to devote significant attention to enhancing content characteristics and exercise satisfaction in the development of home fitness applications.

The Relationship between the Service Quality of IPTV Home Training and Consumers’ Exercise Satisfaction and Continuous Use during the COVID-19 Pandemic
2023
This study aims to provide operators with measures for successful IPTV utilisation by identifying the quality of IPTV services for home training and analysing the relationship between consumers’ exercise satisfaction and continuous use to respond to the COVID-19 era. To achieve the research purpose, people who exercise at home using IPTV home training pro-grams were selected as the sample population. The relationship between efficiency, availability, security, and practicability, which are sub-factors of the service quality of IPTV home training, was analysed for exercise satisfaction and continuous use. The analysis methods include frequency analysis and Cronbach’s α using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0. Validation was conducted through correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation model analysis. In addition, Harman’s one-factor verification was conducted to determine the common method bias. All statistically significant levels were set at the p < 0.05 level. The results show that efficiency, availability, security, and practicability have a positive effect on exercise satisfaction, and exercise satisfaction has a positive effect on continuous use. First, during COVID-19, IPTV plays an important role in helping consumers exercise at home and indoors. Second, the subjects of this study showed that individuals 40 years old and older are exercising the most. Therefore, it is assumed that consumers will continue to participate if they provide programs that young people can do. Third, since various human disasters, natural disasters, and other un-predictable phenomena such as COVID-19 are occurring worldwide, policymakers should try to activate programs such as IPTV’s home training that can be done indoors.

The Relationship between Exercise Re-Participation Intention Based on the Sports-Socialization Process: YouTube Sports Content Intervention
2023
Few studies have used a quantitative research methodology to examine the socialization process model, and such studies were conducted to verify a new model by intervening in the variables of YouTube sports content. To understand this process, we tested the moderated mediating effect by intervening in YouTube sports content based on the sports socialization process model. We recruited 274 participants from the Jeju Residents’ Jeju Sports Festival, Korea. The PROCESS Macro program was performed to test the research hypotheses. The findings indicate that social support had a significant effect on re-participation intention. Social support had a significant mediation effect on exercise interruption intention, re-participation intention, and exercise performance satisfaction. Furthermore, through the relationship between social support and exercise interruption intention, YouTube sports content showed a significant interaction of re-participation intention in exercise. These results extend sports socialization theory by discovering a new model that explains the relationship between the sports socialization process and YouTube sports content. In addition, it will provide a basis for delivering educational information to the public so that they can recognize the importance of physical activity and exercise skills.

While cardiac rehabilitation has been shown to be effective at improving coronary heart disease (CHD), participation is generally poor. Attempts to increase uptake and adherence often fail. Use of a Facebook intervention for this population may be a unique opportunity to support self-determined motivation and affect adherence.
To evaluate the impact of a Facebook intervention on motivation for exercise and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation in patients with CHD during a 12-week, Phase II cardiac rehabilitation program.
A prospective, randomized controlled pilot study, grounded in Self-Determination Theory, will be conducted. Participants will be recruited from inpatient, or the intake visit to outpatient, cardiac rehabilitation, and then randomly assigned to the intervention or comparison group. Participants in the intervention group will take part in a private Facebook group. Weekly posts will be designed to support self-determined motivation, measured at baseline and postcardiac rehabilitation by the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-3 (BREQ-3). The Psychological Need Satisfaction for Exercise (PNSE) scale will measure fulfillment of needs that affect motivation. Participants in the comparison group will be given the same materials, but these will be supplied via handouts and email. The number of sessions attended will be tallied and analyzed using t tests. Overall motivation will be evaluated using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) models. Multivariate analysis of variance models will be used to evaluate differences in the change across motivation subtypes. If significant, ANCOVA models for each subtype will be fit. ANCOVA models will be used to compare changes in needs satisfaction, overall and separately among the three subscales, between groups. Engagement in the Facebook group will be measured by number of \"likes\" and self-report of weekly visits to the group.
This project was funded in July 2017 and recruitment is currently underway. The recruitment goal is 60 cardiac rehabilitation patients. Data collection is anticipated to be complete by July 2018.
This pilot study will be the first to examine the effect of a Facebook intervention on patient adherence and motivation for exercise in a cardiac rehabilitation setting. Engagement in the Facebook group and participation in the study will help to determine the feasibility of using Facebook to affect adherence and motivation in cardiac rehabilitation patients, potentially improving outcomes through the use of a unique intervention.

Current research dealing with the stress of kindergarten teachers in the workplace is less common than research that focuses on the stress of school teachers and professors. Kindergarten teachers are in constant contact with children and execute work of high responsibility, so this research is justified in attempting to determine the intensity of burnout and the level of physical activity, as well as to prevent any negative events. The study helped to determine the level of physical activity, the intensity of burnout at work, the total level of stress at work, and the level of life satisfaction of the teachers employed at Jarun Kindergarten. We also examined the correlation among the above variables. The sample consisted of 80 female kindergarten teachers, aged 23-61, i.e. 95% of all teachers employed at Jarun Kindergarten, the second largest kindergarten in the city of Zagreb. The survey was conducted using five questionnaires with a total of 76 questions: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Burnout Intensity at Work Questionnaire, Educator Job Stress Assessment Scale, International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Satisfaction with Life Scale. Statistical processing is presented through basic descriptive indicators (including the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Distribution Normality Test and Box and Whisker Diagram) and through the distribution of the sample by reference intervals of individual measuring instruments. The correlation between the main variables was tested using a series of linear bivariate regression analyses. The results show that the teachers employed at Jarun Kindergarten have a high level of physical activity, generally find their work moderately stressful, claim a low intensity of burnout at work, and are on average somewhat satisfied with life. Those with a higher total level of stress at work experience a higher intensity of burnout at work and are more dissatisfied with life. The results provide guidance for preventive measures in reducing occupational stress and educating teachers how to build up their physical activity and maintain it at a level that will have a positive effect on their health.
