China and the WTO : accession, policy reform, and poverty reduction strategies
China's accession to the WTO requires a great many specific policy reforms. However, if the best results are to be obtained, it is important that these reforms be implemented as part of a consistent development program, rather than simply by treating them as a recipe. To do this, policy makers must understand the range and nature of the policy changes required by accession, their implications for the economy, and the availability and effects of supporting policies. China and the WTO analyzes the nature of the reforms involved in China's accession to the WTO, assesses their implications for the world economy, and examines the implications for individual households, particularly the poor. Its key objective is to provide the information that will allow policy makers to implement WTO commitments and formulate supporting policies to contribute strongly to economic development and poverty reduction. Individual chapters by leading scholars analyze the nature of the reforms in key areas, such as agriculture, services, intellectual property and safeguards and anti-dumping. Women Filmmakers and the Visual Politics of Transnational China in the #MeToo Era
Manoeuvring around mainland China's censors and pushing back against threats of lawsuits, online harassment, and physical violence, #MeToo activists shed a particularly harsh light on the treatment of women in the cinema and entertainment industries. Focusing on films from the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora, this book considers how female directors shape Chinese visual politics through the depiction of the look, the stare, the leer, the glare, the glimpse, the glance, the queer and the oppositional gaze in fiction and documentary filmmaking. Exploring the effect of producer services and manufacturing industrial co-agglomeration on the ecological environment pollution control in China
Based on the perspective of government-dominated and market-driven industrial co-agglomeration mode, the effect of producer services and manufacturing industrial co-agglomeration on the ecological environment pollution control is explored by using spatial Durbin model, and the mediating effect of technological innovation is further tested. The results show that: (1) At the national level, the government-dominated industrial co-agglomeration only significantly promotes the local ecological environment pollution control, while the market-driven industrial co-agglomeration also can promote the ecological environment pollution control in the surrounding region through its spatial spillover effect. Moreover, there is a significant inverted “U-shaped” curve relationship between the economic development level and ecological environment pollution. Additionally, the environment regulation is also conducive to promoting the ecological environment pollution control, while the industrial structure and foreign direct investment will lead to more serious ecological environment pollution; (2) In the east region, the government-dominated and market-driven industrial co-agglomeration can promote the ecological environment pollution control in the local and surrounding regions, and the promotion effect and spatial spillover effect of market-driven industrial co-agglomeration are greater. However, in the central and west regions, the government-dominated industrial co-agglomeration and market-driven industrial co-agglomeration only promote the local ecological environment pollution control. (3) Technological innovation has partial mediating effect in the impact of government-dominated and market-driven industrial co-agglomeration on the ecological environment pollution control, namely that the government-dominated and market-driven industrial co-agglomeration not only can directly promote the ecological environment pollution control, but also can indirectly promote the ecological environment pollution control through the mediating effect of technological innovation.

INTERNATIONAL INFLATION SPILLOVERS THROUGH INPUT LINKAGES
We document that international input-output linkages contribute substantially to synchronizing producer price inflation (PPI) across countries. Using a multicountry, industry-level data set that combines information on PPI and exchange rates with global input-output linkages, we recover the underlying cost shocks that are propagated internationally via the global input-output network, thus generating the observed dynamics of PPI. We then compare the extent to which common global factors account for the variation in actual PPI and in the underlying cost shocks. Across a range of econometric tests, input-output linkages account for half of the global component of PPI inflation.

Global cities and multinational enterprise location strategy
We combine the concept of location derived by economic geographers with theories of the multinational enterprise (MNE) and the liability of foreignness developed by international business scholars, to examine the factors that propel MNEs toward, or away from, \"global cities\". We argue that three distinctive characteristics of global cities — global interconnectedness, cosmopolitanism, and abundance of advanced producer services — help MNEs overcome the costs of doing business abroad, and we identify the contingencies under which these characteristics combine with firm attributes to exert their strongest influence. Consistent with these arguments, our analysis of a large sample of MNE location decisions using a multilevel multinomial model suggests not only that MNEs have a strong propensity to locate within global cities, but also that these choices are associated with a nuanced interplay of firm- and subsidiary-level factors, including investment motives, proprietary capabilities, and business strategy. Our study provides important insights for international business scholars by shedding new light on MNE location choices and also contributes to our understanding of economic geography by examining the heterogeneous strategies and capabilities of MNEs — the primary agents of economic globalization — that shape the nature of global cities.

Roots of the New Arab Film deals with the generation of filmmakers from across North Africa and the Middle East who created an international awareness of Arab film from the mid-1980s onwards. These seminal filmmakers experienced the moment of national independence first-hand in their youth and retained a deep attachment to their homeland. Although these aspiring filmmakers had to seek their training abroad, they witnessed a time of filmic revival in Europe - Fellini and Antonioni in Italy, the French New Wave, and British Free Cinema.
Returning home, these filmmakers brought a unique insider/outsider perspective to bear on local developments in society since independence, including the divide between urban and rural communities, the continuing power of traditional values and the status of women in a changing society. As they made their first films back home, the feelings of participation in a worldwide movement of new, independent filmmaking was palpable.
