Terrorism and Racial Coexistence in Alabama's Reconstruction
Yet given that climate, in some sections of the state, black and white Alabamians interacted in restrained and civil ways for years at a time. [...]this essay examines the \"dog that didn't bark,\" the places where Ku Klux Klan-style terrorism was short-lived, sporadic, or largely deterred. [...]the mayhem elsewhere benefitted Black Belt planters by driving laborers into their region. Whatever the contrary economic incentives, laborers migrated toward the places where predominant numbers provided some protection, a process that in turn made these areas even less hospitable to nightriding. [...]by situation, or by political belief, there were concentrations of wealthy planters on rich land who had reason to distrust the Democratic tendency toward violence. For years, most freedpeople and their Conservative planter neighbors moved toward an uneasy coexistence. [...]as we live through a time of partisan strife and rising ethnic conflict, it might be well to remember that even during the harsh Reconstruction Era, amid glaring partisan disagreements, some members of Alabama's diverse citizenry still found a way to coexist. 1The most important Revisionist work on the topic is Sarah Woolfolk Wiggins, The Scalawag in Alabama Reconstruction, 1860-1881 (Tuscaloosa, 1977).

Ballyclough advance to last four with win over Killavullen Edition 3
2014
On the changeover Killavullen were all out to stage a serious second half challenge but in truth it never ignited with Ballyclough dominating proceedings during the entire third quarter. Barry Morrissey and Paul O'Flynn were pivotal figures at midfield as they ensured their forwards were in constant supply and eight points in this period helped seal their place in the semi finals long before the final whistle when ahead 1-15 to 0-8. In the last quarter Killavullen enjoyed one of their best spells and in the 52nd minute a goal from a Billy Norris penalty kept them in touch when in arrears 1-15 to 1-9. Try as they might they were unable to reduce the deficit any further with Adam Finnegan, Alan O'Driscoll, Bartley Hayes and Colm O'[Neill] exchanging points before the final whistle as Ballyclough ran out worthy winners and secured a place in the semi-final against Kilworth.
