@ScientistTrump will make science great again
The man behind @ScientistTrump - ecologist Emilio Bruna at the University of Florida in Gainesville - is no stranger to social-media antics. Last year, as editor-in-chief of the ecology journal Biotropica, he instigated rap battles with the Twitter accounts of other science journals. Bruna started the Trump parody account in July after joking with fellow editors that they should review papers as the presidential candidate would.
Palabras clave: revistas culturales, humor, izquierda, arte social, Boedo, polémicas, vanguardias, Florida Regarding the thoroughly discussed polemics between the Boedo and the Florida groups that took place in cultural magazines in the mid 20s, literary critique supports the idea that its display involved a certain distribution of serious and humoristic tones within argentine literary language, which would correspond, in turn, to the classical division between form and content. Whereas the \"social art\" by Boedo would have focused in seriously toned denunciation, grounded in the seriousness of the problems it addressed, the \"art for art's sake\" defended by Florida, would have found In humour a way for literature to reflect about Itself and to produce Its criticism and self-criticism. However, a re-reading of Los Pensadores, the journal around which the Boedo group organized itself, suggests that a humoristic tone was one of its fundamental strategies for the criticism of the literature and the society of its time, in synch with its literary, cultural and political project. Patient Appreciation Day in Radiation Oncology
Patients undergoing radiation therapy struggle with many physical and emotional stressors. Many ways to help patients cope with stressors and improve the treatment experience are found in the literature, including humor, art, entertainment, and hospitality. At H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, the radiation therapy nurses and staff members use entertainment in an annual patient appreciation day event as one way to give back to the patients.
Bringing the background to the foreground: What do classroom environments that support authentic discussions look like?
Authentic discussions are dialogically oriented classroom interactions where participants present and consider multiple perspectives and often use others' input in constructing their contributions. Despite their instructional effectiveness, authentic discussions are reportedly rare in classrooms. This qualitative case study examines the features of the environment of a fifth-grade classroom community where authentic discussions were frequent. The examination used recorded class sessions, interviews, and field notes to identify seven aspects of the classroom environment that appeared to be essential to the presence of authentic discussions: physical environment, curricular demands and enacted curriculum, teacher beliefs, student beliefs about discussions, relationships among members, classroom procedures, and norms of classroom participation. Do Humorous Preoperative Teaching Strategies Work?
Incorporating humor into preoperative teaching may improve patients' ability to recall pertinent instruction. This article describes a study in which an experimental, two-group, pretest/posttest design was used to determine whether there was a significant difference in the amount of knowledge patients recalled after receiving a teaching booklet either with (ie, experimental) or without (ie, control) humor. The sample included 50 patients undergoing open-heart surgery. Results indicate that there was no significant difference ( F 1, 48 = .07, P > .05) between the groups in the amount of knowledge gained related to postoperative pulmonary exercises. Both groups, however, had a statistically significant increase in the amount of knowledge gained from pretest to posttest ( F 1, 48 = 39.16, P < .05). Before humorous teaching strategies can be recommended for use in preoperative teaching, further research about the relationship between preoperative instruction, humor, and knowledge retention is necessary. Aquí Está Alvarez Guedes: Cuban choteo and the politics of play
This article examines the stand-up comedy of Cuban exile comedian Guillermo Alvarez Guedes and his use of a culturally specific form of Cuban humor called choteo . Despite being a popular topic of study throughout the intellectual history of Cuba, little scholarship has been dedicated to theorizing the deployment of choteo in exile. Scholarship and mainstream media depictions of the Cuban exile community have traditionally focused on the community's negative affective orientation. This emphasis has led to a lack of scholarship on the important role of the ludic in Cuban exile culture. By offering an analysis of Alvarez Guedes's use of choteo to narrate the evolving political landscape in Miami during the mid-1970s to early 1980s, this article demonstrates how his comedic production helped to consolidate a Cuban exile identity while simultaneously offering trenchant critiques of anti-Cuban sentiment in Miami at the time.

Policing Humor
Sgt Michael E. Klingebiel touched off a heated debate after he sent a humorous and fictitious e-mail message regarding the University of South Florida's police auction. The sergeant's boss fired off a response, condemning what he called Sgt Klingebiel's extremely poor taste and inappropriate act of insensitivity.
